We tried to warn them about the vaccines but they just ridiculed us and tried to ostracize us with a smirk on their faces the entire time. Our words or warning (wisdom) could not penetrate their blood-brain barriers the way the spike proteins did. Now we are to blame for not being loud enough? Please. You wanted us fired and locked up and sent to camps. You opined how you didn't care if we died from COVID and many even wished a painful death from COVID on us for being so "stupid" and "anti-vax". We tried to warn you about the the vaccines (and so much more), but you wouldn't listen, just like you're still not listening to so much other stuff we're trying to warn you about to this day. It just rolls right off of you.

We tried to reason with you using statistics. We asked "Why should I take a vaccine for a disease with a 0.2% mortality rate?". You just repeated media propaganda about overwhelmed hospitals and thousands dying daily. We tried to tell you that wasn't true but you wouldn't listen. You shunned us at the water cooler and kept on talking about how we were "anti-science". When we would actually produce science, in the form of studies done or statistical analysis, you dismissed it as misinformation. It is not our fault that you lack critical thinking skills and are burdened by cognitive dissonance.

They even said our kids should be taken away from us for refusing to get vaccinated with an experimental (at best) vaccine for a disease with a 99.8% survivability rate.

Anon has one and only one medical facility (neurosurgeon) that doesn't require a mask. Anon has issues with wearing a mask, actual health issues with CO2 retention, not just philosophical issues. Anons answer has been to wear what is called a "freedom mask" when there's absolutely no choice (other than to not be seen by medical practice). It allows pretty much 100% breathability.

Same experience. Immediate fam (spouse anon and children anons) are all unvaxxed and on the same page. The extended family, however, are all about the vax. We've had the COVID a couple of times, most recently one year ago. We used the same vitamins you used and Pepcid and Dayquil. Nothing major for either of us, but extended family STAYS sick it seems.

I can't remember which General it was, but a General once said something to the effect of "If you want to know what's going on, ask a Private". Essentially the Private is the one being sent wherever for whatever.

Creep tries to abduct boy from NYC synagogue — thwarted by mom

A creep tried to abduct a 9-year-old boy from a Brooklyn synagogue Wednesday — but was thwarted when the kid’s mom showed up and saw him trying to carry her son away, police said.

The boy was attending a party at the Hesed Le Avraham Synagogue on East 7th Street in Gravesend around 9:30 a.m. when a man who had been praying inside approached him, cops said.

The stranger asked the child to go outside with him — and when the kid refused, he picked him up by the shoulders and tried to carry him out through the front door, according to police.

The mother spotted the creep carrying her son and jumped in — asking the boy if he knew the man from the synagogue, cops said.

When he told her no, she ripped her son from the man’s arms, police said.

The suspect then ran off — hiding in a nearby yeshiva, according to law enforcement sources.

Cops had K9s out in Brooklyn hunting for the man, 42, who was taken into custody about an hour later, police said.

Study finds those with schizotypal, paranoid, and histrionic personality traits are more likely to fall for fake news.

A new study in Personality and Individual Differences sheds light on who is vulnerable to fake news and what can be done to help people falling for it. The findings indicate that those with more schizotypal, paranoid, and histrionic personality traits tend to have trouble detecting fake news.

In addition, these individuals suffered more anxiety and engaged in more cognitive biases. Study authors Alex Escola-Gascon and colleagues recommend combating the Barnum Effect and teaching critical thinking skills to buffer against vulnerability to fake news effectively.

Challenges in critical thinking leading to conspiratorial or pseudoscientific beliefs are not new. However, the access one has to tall tales marketed as fact is unprecedented and has far-reaching consequences. Public health organizations and governments worldwide face difficulties because individuals cannot determine what information is reliable or accurate. Escola-Gascon and colleagues recognized the necessity of identifying who may be vulnerable to fake news and using the findings to recommend therapeutic interventions.

The study recruited 1,452 participants over 21 years of age, with just under half of the group identifying as female (49%). Participants were also asked the number of daily hours they spent on the internet. In addition, the participants had no clinical diagnoses of psychiatric conditions.

Subjects were then assessed using several tests, including the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Positive and Negative Affect Scale, and Multivariable Multiaxial Suggestibility Inventory. These served to identify personality traits that may identify those vulnerable to fake news and those who were not.

In order to determine who was most vulnerable to fake news, participants took the COVID-19 fake news test. This test presented participants with 18 statements; six were false, six were true, and the final six did not have enough information to prove them true or false.

Each statement could be responded to with a “true,” “false,” or “uncertain” response. Those who were successful on this test, getting nine or more correct, were considered part of the group not vulnerable to fake news; the remaining participants were grouped together for statistical analysis of their responses on the personality inventories.

The findings of this endeavor were complex but meaningful. Escola-Gascon and colleagues state, “Results supported the conclusion that failure to correctly detect fake news is related to increased psychopathological risks in Trait Anxiety, State Anxiety, Negative Effect, Histrionism, Schizotypy, Paranoia, Narcissism, Simulations (Barnum Effect), Suggestibility and Search for Emotions.” In simpler terms, several interconnected personality traits result in greater vulnerability to fake news.

From this finding, the research team recommended interventions they feel may work individually to help identify fake news and the subsequent negative psychological consequences.

The first is to teach individuals to avoid the Barnum Effect, which refers to the phenomenon where individuals believe that a generic statement or description applies specifically to them, even though it could apply to many people. This is often seen in the context of phony personality tests and psychic readings. The Barnum Effect can be used to manipulate public health behaviors and political opinions.

The second recommendation is to teach people how to think critically alongside their intuition. Believers in fake news or pseudoscience are often guided by intuition. Intuitive thinking cannot be ignored or belittled in teaching critical analysis. The research team recommends that critical thinking be marketed and taught as a partner to intuition.

There are some acknowledged limitations to the study. The decision to group those vulnerable to fake news based on a score below 9 on the COVID-19 fake news test was not based on empirical research, it may be that scores higher or lower than 9 represent the most vulnerable. Also, the sample consisted of only Spanish individuals; cultural confounding variables may challenge the study’s generalizability.

The research team does not believe these limitations diminish the relevance of their study. Escola-Gascon and colleagues conclude, “The results of this research are not experimental, but they contribute to the generation of new hypotheses and offer practical recommendations for the psychiatric and/or psychological clinic.”

The study, “Who falls for fake news? Psychological and clinical profiling evidence of fake news consumers“, was authored by Alex Escola-Gascon, Neil Dagnall, Andrew Denovan, Kenneth Drinkwater, and Miriam Diez-Bosch.

They want to determine how to "teach individuals to avoid the Barnum Effect", but that's just the opposite of what they want. They want to figure out how some people (like most anons here) have better BS detectors than others that are easily manipulated. If they can figure out how our brians work to weed through their propaganda, they hope they can then tweak and tailor their propaganda to draw more of us in to their lies.

I personally don't shop there so I don't have a horse in this race, but I remember one of the headlines about the drag queen story hour being held there was structured in a way that it was easy to read as though TS was supporting it, but, on closer inspection, it seemed to suggest the opposite. I am open to being wrong here. I was wrong once before, that time I thought I was wrong.

You said "Meh", like it wasn't a big deal. It was.

>work on your skills to lower irrational fear in others

I don't have a problem reasoning with people. The problem isn't my "skills". The problem was/is people refusing to listen. When debate is shut down, and to the point that one party is seeking to harm the other in some way (job loss, cut off access to basic societal functions, etc.), the "skills" for "lowering irrational fears" are non sequitur.

>he doesn't like classic movies because there old.

It's more likely the aesthetics than the content. Old movies, in general, are better (Hollywood ran out of original ideas long ago), but the black and white or the "technicolor" graphics, as well as the difference in the lingo and other sound aspects can be an instant turn off to some.
