We had a hen lay a rubber egg once. It was soft, kind of like an aggression ball.. no shell and it had a yolk, you could see it suspended in there. I’m not sure what caused it but it hasn’t happened since.

If the chickens stop laying, my guess is some sort of chemical like in a birth control pill to stop ovulation, the egg is the ovulation of the chicken. Once that chemical is flushed, the eggs subsequently should be fine. It might take a while for the hen to get regular again though.
