Vanroy Evan Smith (a bi-racial accoutant and cyclist who goes by "Evan Smith") accelerated his Lexus and slammed into ER Dr. Michael Mammone from behind. The doctor was stopped on his bicycle in a bicycle lane at a red light. The assailant then got out his car and stabbing the injured doctor repeatedly while mumbling about "white privilege" according to a witness. Bystanders held the assailant until police arrived. The respected ER physician died feet where he saved hundreds of lives in the ER.

Laguna Beach, CA: Neighborhood cam captures the moment Dr. Michael John Mammone (58) was struck by a vehicle and stabbed. The suspect Vanroy Evan Smith (39) of Long Beach was taken into custody for suspicion of murder. Knife found at the scene. No motive at this time.

The accused wrote in a blog:
"'By appearance and established standards, I am called a black man. Does that mean I deny and reject half of my ancestry. How do we tell someone to filter things like that from their blood?"

Hospital staff told the television station that Mammone “was an amazing doctor” who often biked and was killed less than a mile from the hospital.
“…He has saved so many lives here, and he died very close to where he saved hundreds of lives,” said cardiologist Dr. Dawn Aatwal to Fox 11 Los Angeles.
