Suspected Chinese spy balloon reaches Kansas: GOP Sen. Marshall

"President Biden must protect the sovereignty of the U.S. whether it’s our airspace or the southern border."

Updated: February 3, 2023 - 4:16pm

The suspected Chinese spy balloon is has now reached Kansas and Nebraska, according to Republican Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall.

"I can confirm the Chinese spy ballon [sic] is over NE KS. My staff is in contact with law enforcement officials," the lawmaker tweeted on Friday. "I condemn any attempts the Chinese make to spy on Americans. President Biden must protect the sovereignty of the U.S. whether it’s our airspace or the southern border."

It is unclear from Marshall's statement whether the balloon has entered Kansas airspace.

The balloon entered the U.S. via the Aleutian Islands chain of Alaska, before entering Canada and reentering U.S. territory in the skies over Montana, officials confirmed Thursday.

For the balloon to have reached Nebraska or Kansas, it likely first passed through either Wyoming or South Dakota. The Pentagon has declined to update the public in real time on the location of the balloon.

In a heated exchange, a Pentagon spokesman declined on Friday to specify the balloon's exact location. When a reporter pressed him on the public's right to know the location of the balloon, the spokesman indicated that "the public certainly has the ability to look up in the sky and see where the balloon is."

Pentagon Spokesman snaps at reporter when asked about details:

Barr critical of NY Times reporting on Durham probe, says paper 'ignored some fundamental facts'

The attorney general, appointed by former President Trump, said the reporting left out "obvious reasons" for Durham's investigation.

Updated: February 3, 2023 - 1:29pm

Former Attorney General Bill Barr is raising concernsabout The New York Times' reporting on special counsel John Durham's investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia probe and alleged, related misconduct.

"They ignored some fundamental facts as to why some of the information that Durham was seeking was very important information," Barr said about the newspaper's report, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Barr, who was a Trump administration official, and who appointed Durham to lead the special Justice Department probe, also saidTimes' story omitted "obvious reasons" for the investigation."

The Times, in response, said the newspaper stands behind the story.

The story published Jan. 26 made the case that the Durham's probe has flaws similar to the Justice Department's Trump-Russia collusion probe including a strained justification for opening it and its role in fueling partisan conspiracy theories that would never be charged in court.

The Times story also alleged Barr pressed Durham to find flaws in the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election conducted by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III.

Barr spoke to a Times reporter after a speech at the California News Publishers Association meeting, in Sacramento.

"The idea that there was a thin basis for doing it doesn’t hold water," Barr said. "Because it wasn’t started as a criminal investigation. One of the duties of the attorney general is to protect against the abuse of criminal and intelligence powers, that they’re not abused to impinge on political activity, so I felt it was my duty to find out what happened there.”

Durham is a former U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut. His probe included two trials in which he failed each times to win a conviction. Durham is now writing his final report.

Article III Project founder believes Jim Jordan has no intention of holding Big Tech accountable

"The problem is that House Republican leadership is too beholden to Big Tech," Mike Davis said.

Updated: February 2, 2023 - 8:57pm

Article III Project founder and President Mike Davis says he doubts House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan will hold Big Tech accountable for its abuse of power for colluding with the federal government.

"Jim Jordan has no intention of actually holding big tech accountable," Davis said on the Wednesday edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show.

"He pretends like he is fighting against Big Tech, but behind the scenes he's making these key decisions like opposing bipartisan reforms last Congress and appointing someone who is pro Big Tech."

It was recently announced that Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) and Rep. Ken Buck (R-Col.) teamed up together to create a new Congressional Antitrust Caucus to crack down on Big Tech and its abuse of power.

According to Davis, Congressman Buck championed six bipartisan antitrust bills that got through the House regarding Big Tech, but that GOP leadership, such as House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Jordan, were of no help and seemed to be against it.

"The problem is that House Republican leadership is too beholden to Big Tech," Davis stated. "They take too much of Big Tech's money, their staff has a revolving door with Big Tech, their advisors have a revolving door with Big Tech and they do Big Tech's bidding."

Davis specifically accused Rep. Jordan of doing bidding for Big Tech.

"I don't think Jim Jordan's even trying to hide it anymore that he is doing Big

Tech's bidding."

Trump declines to commit to endorsing GOP nominee if he loses primary

(What do they expect, asking that question?)

Recent polling suggests that Trump remains a potent force in Republican circles.

Updated: February 2, 2023 - 4:07pm

Former President Donald Trump on Thursday declined to commit to endorsing the Republican nominee for president in 2024 should he lose the party primary contest.

Speaking to radio show host Hugh Hewitt, Trump indicated that his endorsement of an alternate nominee would be dependent on that nominee's identity.

Hewitt referenced that former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is expected to soon announce her own candidacy for president while former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has openly explored a bid.

"My question to you, Mr. President, if you’re not the nominee, will you support whoever the GOP nominee is?" Hewitt asked.

"It would depend. I would give you the same answer I gave in 2016 during the debates," Trump said. "It would have to depend on who the nominee was."

Trump is, to date, the only Republican to have formally declared his candidacy for president. Apart from the former president, Haley, and Hogan, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis also ranks highly among possible rivals for the party's 2024 nod.

Recent polling suggests that Trump remains a potent force in Republican circles. A Morning Consult survey conducted earlier this month showed Trump with 48 percent support, followed by DeSantis with 31 percent and former Vice President Mike Pence, who garnered 8 percent support.

National Archives claims it wasn’t allowed to announce Biden classified doc discovery, Comer reveals

"[T]here are only two people who could have given him those orders, and that is either the Department of Justice with Merrick Garland or the White House with Joe Biden."

Updated: February 2, 2023 - 6:47am

House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., said theNational Archives had claimed it was not permitted to publicly discuss the discovery of classified materialsat various locations once occupied by President Joe Biden, prompting the lawmaker to suggest that the administration had intervened.

Comer met with National Archives general counsel Gary Stern on Tuesday.

Prior to the meeting, Comer says he was handed a letter from the Department of Justice indicating that Stern was barred from commenting on the matter.

"Right before the National Archives came in, they handed us a letter from the Department of Justice informing them and us that the general counsel for the National Archives wasn't allowed to say anything about the Biden documents. But we went ahead and we had about a three-plus hour transcribed interview with the general counsel, and what we learned was that there is a double standard here with how Donald Trump was treated versus Joe Biden," Comer said in an appearance on Fox News.

"[T]he general counsel said that he did do press releases, but he was ordered and told they couldn't be published," Comer said. "[T]here are only two people who could have given him those orders, and that is either the Department of Justice with Merrick Garland or the White House with Joe Biden."

The Archives have previously publicly commented on matters pertaining to the investigation of former President Donald Trump over his alleged mishandling of classified documents, a disparity Comer noted.

"[W]hat we learned was that there is a double standard here with how Donald Trump was treated versus Joe Biden," he concluded.
