Anyone with a VHF ham radio and some technical now how can contact the ISS via APRS on 145.825 MHz. Even if you are not a licensed ham but have one of those cheap Baofeng radios you can listen in and use ISS tracking websites or software to see when it'll be overhead. When it does you will hear the APRS signals being repeated from the station. Due to the protocol it uses (AFSK) it sounds like those old school modems from the 90s.
