Stunning Information Found In Investigation Into Supreme Court Leaker

February 4, 2023

The Supreme Court investigation into who leaked the decision that ended Roe V. Wade has found something terrifying.

The security of documents at the Supreme Court was minimal and included what are called ā€œburn bagsā€ that were simply left in hallways, CNN reported.

ā€œLong before the leak of a draft opinion reversing Roe v. Wade, someĀ Supreme CourtĀ justices often used personal email accounts for sensitive transmissions instead of secure servers set up to guard such information, among other security lapses not made public in theĀ courtā€™s reportĀ on the investigation last month,ā€ CNN Supreme Court ReporterĀ Ariane de Vogue said.

ā€œNew details revealed to CNN by multiple sources familiar with the courtā€™s operations offer an even more detailed picture of yearslong lax internal procedures that could have endangered security, led to the leak and hindered an investigation into the culprit,ā€ the reporter said.

ā€œSupreme Court employees also used printers that didnā€™t produce logs ā€“ or were able to print sensitive documents off-site without tracking ā€“ and ā€˜burn bagsā€™ meant to ensure the safe destruction of materials were left open and unattended in hallways,ā€ she said.

ā€œThis has been going on for years,ā€ a former employee said.

Another said that the justices were ā€œnot masters of information security protocol.ā€ā€¦.
