I am very interested in the entire story with iodine, because apparently it was used and even present in bread flour many years ago.
Iodine is needed all over the body and correcting low iodine status can help things like precancerous changes to the female breast.
However, in situations of things like Hashimoto's thyroiditis it might seem that taking iodine incorrectly could actually be dangerous.
In complicated situations I think it is good to find an "iodine literate practitioner", but these are apparently hard to find.
