Biden announces sweeping vaccine mandates affecting millions of workers
The administration said the new mandates could affect around 100 million people, more than two-thirds of the U.S. workforce.

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden on Thursday issued two executive orders mandating vaccines for federal workers and contractors and announced new requirements for large employers and health care providers that he said would affect around 100 million workers, more than two-thirds of the U.S. workforce.
"We've been patient, but our patience is wearing thin," Biden said, making a direct appeal to the 80 million people who he said were still unvaccinated. "Your refusal has cost all of us."

Biden Administration Extends COVID-19 State of Emergency

Jan. 11, 2023 – The Department of Health and Human Services has extended the COVID-19 state of emergency that was instituted in January 2020, Secretary Xavier Becerra announced on Wednesday.
Becerra issued a statement saying the decision was “a result of the continued consequences of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic” and was made “after consultation with public health officials as necessary.”
It was the 12th renewal of the emergency and is scheduled to last 90 days.
“There’s still a lot of Covid out there, and the public health emergency and his determination gives us tools to fight this,” White House Covid-19 Response Coordinator Ashish Jha, MD, told CNN.
