From what I recall it was supposed to be more balanced the House was supposed to be the common men and the senate the land owners. Part of the issue is at least in congress is that the amount of funds for bull shit elections and then the greed and criminality it attracts a certain type of person. This also goes for the positions you stated and how it has been shifted to serve the elite rather than the people, same goes for the restriction of the bar exam for lawyers all these restrictions when at the very top levels none are required. The current system needs to struck back down to the basics and perhaps some modifications will be needed. Service in government should be that service. IT is not saying you should not be compensated for your time, but you should not be able to become richer off the peoples backs either.
