Jean-Pierre says the United States has, 'unwavering support for the security of the alliance'.
Kirby [White House press conference]: [Biden, during upcoming trip to Poland] will make it very clear that the United States will continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.
Kirby: I can confirm that the Department of Defense was tracking a high-altitude object over Alaska airspace in the last twenty-four hours. The object was flying at an altitude of 40,000 feet, and posed a reasonable threat to the safety of civilian flight…[Biden] ordered the military to down the object.
Kirby: They did it [shot down object] using fighter aircraft assigned to US Northern Command…we're calling this an object because that's the best description we have right now. We do not know who ows it, whether it's state owned, corporate owned, or privately owned, we don't know.
Kirby says the object shot down was 'roughly the size of a small car, with no significant payload'.
Kirby: [Biden] doesn't regret the way that we handled the first balloon.
Kirby: [The object shot down today] did not appear to have the maneuverable capability that the other one did. Virtually at the will of the wind
Report: Who do you think might own or might have flown this thing in the air?
Kirby: I have no idea.
Kirby: The balloon, and the track, first came to our attention last evening.
Kirby says he just misspoke by calling the 'object' a balloon.
Kirby: The [fighter] pilot's assessment was that [the object] was not manned.
Kirby: Ft. Sill, Oklahoma; we're got Ukrainian soldiers learning how to use a Patriot Battery. Outside Ukraine, we're helping train them on combined arms maneuver.
Kirby: There are no plans to send the [balloon] debris back to China.
Kirby: [Biden] gave the order to shoot it down [the object] this morning.
Jean-Pierre: [Ben LaBolt] is making history…he will be the first openly gay communications director, which is very, very important indeed.
Reporter at White House press conference just brought up communications just released by the National Archives between [Biden's] personal attorneys and the Archives, that refer to 'boxes that are in the Boston office…[we] want to move them to the JFK Library.'
