Here we go… save Bidan’s image operation

The U.S. military shot down an "object" that was flying in territorial waters over Alaska, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said on Friday afternoon during a White House press briefing.

"I can confirm that the Department of Defense was tracking a high altitude object over Alaska airspace in the last 24 hours out. The object was flying at an altitude of 40,000 feet and posed a reasonable threat to the safety of civilian flight. Out of an abundance of caution and the recommendation of the Pentagon, President Biden ordered the military to down the object. And they did. And it came in inside our territorial waters," Kirby said.

I was just listening to a Bonjino show where he says and the WSJ snd WAPO admit it true, that China has been spying on for years, the military knows it and does nothing because we are owned by China. Literally years of aerial and other spying on the US. The Generals that worked for Trump never told him, Mattis, Milley and probably Kelly etc because he might be too aggressive. (note to self, never hire a general with two l’s of t’s in their name)

Do we now understand why Trump mentioned Chyna constantly for 40 years of his life?. Our government sold us out a long time ago.

UN condemns executions of Russian POWs by Ukrainians

The UN human rights watchdog is aware of a new graphic video purportedly showing the execution of Russian POWs by Ukrainians and has raised the issue with Kiev

The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is aware of recently-emerged footage apparently showing the execution of Russian soldiers who had surrendered by Ukrainian troops, a spokeswoman for the UN watchdog, Marta Hurtado, has said.

“We have raised concerns about the treatment of prisoners of war, including alleged killings of POWs by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense,” Hurtado told TASS in a statement on Friday.

The graphic video in question surfaced earlier this week, filmed by an armed individual speaking Ukrainian and demanding answers from three men in military uniforms lying on the ground. After failing to elicit a coherent response from them, the man shoots one of the men in the head multiple times at point blank range.

One of the men, lying motionless on the ground, also has visible blood around his head, apparently getting shot and killed before the video started. A fellow Ukrainian soldier appeared to try to reason with the gunman, pointing out that the third captive was holding a grenade. The killer briefly showed his face at the very end of the video, concluding it with an obscenity and ‘Glory to Ukraine’ slogan, which is commonly associated with World War II-era Nazi collaborators but is widely used in present-day Ukraine.

Additional footage seemingly filmed in the immediate aftermath of the incident showed the killer trying to provide excuses to justify his actions. The UN is aware of this footage as well, Hurtado said, adding that none of the excuses actually have merit.

“We are also aware of another video that has appeared on social media platforms that includes additional footage of the original incident and also appears to show a Ukrainian soldier confessing [to] the killing and trying to justify it by alleging that the victims refused to surrender or that they were part of the Wagner Group military and security contractors fighting on behalf of the Russian Federation,” the spokeswoman said. “These excuses do not provide justification for the soldier's actions under international humanitarian law.”

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the killing of unarmed soldiers who surrendered is a “widespread practice” by Kiev’s troops, and multiple incidents of this sort have occurred amid the ongoing conflict, with some of them published online by the killers themselves. The Russian Investigative Committee said on Thursday that the footage appeared to show the recent murder of three Russian POWs by “Ukrainian nationalists,” pledging to investigate further and identify the perpetrators.

(Finally, where was the UN when Ukraine Nazi’s killed 14,000+ innocent ethnic Russiansin Ukraine since 2014, that they were told about for 8 years?)

US museum changes Russian artist’s nationality

The Metropolitan Museum in New York has re-designated Arkhip Kuindzhi as Ukrainian

Arkhip Kuindzhi, a 19th century Russian landscape painter, has been re-designated as a Ukrainian national, according to an update on the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art’s website. The news comes as a number of museums around the world are rebranding classical Russian artworks as Ukrainian amid the ongoing military conflict between Moscow and Kiev.

In the description of Kuindzhi’s 1905 painting ‘Red Sunset on the Dnepr,’ the artist is now listed as “Ukrainian” with the added clarification that he was born in Mariupol “when the Ukrainian city was part of the Russian empire.”

Previous versions of the webpage had designated him as “Russian.” In archived snapshots of the webpage, the Met even described Kuindzhi as “one of the most talented Russian landscape painters of his generation” and noted that his works are “celebrated in both Ukraine and Russia.”

The museum, however, failed to mention that Kuindzhi was actually an ethnic Greek, born in 1842 in a small village near Mariupol. At the time, the city was part of the Yekaterinoslav Governorate, a province in the southwest of the Russian Empire, while the first iteration of an independent Ukraine, the short-lived Ukrainian People’s Republic, emerged only during the Russian Revolution in 1917.

The city of Mariupol was liberated by Russian forces last spring amid the military operation in Ukraine. In September, the Donetsk People’s Republics, which incorporates Mariupol, along with Lugansk People’s Republic and Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, officially became part of the Russian Federation after holding public referendums.

The rebranding of Kuindzhi comes after the Met, ondemands from Ukrainian activists, also renamed the painting ‘Russian Dancer’ by French artist Edgar Degas into ‘Dancer in Ukrainian Dress.’ The UK’s National Gallery made a similar move last April when it also re-titled Degas’ ‘Russian Dancers’ into ‘Ukrainian Dancers,’ stating that the women in the painting were “almost certainly Ukrainian rather than Russian.”

The gallery acknowledged, however, that the change of title was due to the current political situation and after a public pressure campaign on social media rather than due to any new facts discovered about Degas’ work.

Alec Baldwin sued by Ukrainian family of slain cinematographer

Halyna Hutchins’ family is seeking compensation from the ‘man with the gun’

The family of late Ukrainian-American cinematographer Halyna Hutchins are suing Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin for her fatal shooting on the set of ‘Rust’.

Hutchins’ parents and sister announced their decision to sue Baldwin and others among the production crew via their lawyer, Gloria Allred, on Thursday. The cinematographers’ relatives, who live near the Ukrainian capital of Kiev, are seeking “unspecified compensation.”

They claim the actor did not reach out to them “to even say he was sorry,” the lawyer said. “We haven’t heard from Alec Baldwin, the man with the gun,” the family said, as quoted by Allred.

Baldwin and ‘Rust’ producers settled a separate lawsuit with Halyna’s American husband, Matthew Hutchins, and their son for an undisclosed sum in October 2022.

The tragic accident happened in October 2021, during the filming of the Western movie ‘Rust’ in New Mexico. Baldwin, portraying a gunslinger, was pointing a revolver at the camera helmed by Hutchins and director Joel Souza while rehearsing a dramatic shot. The gun in Baldwin’s hand went off, killing Hutchins and wounding Souza.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration stated in April 2022 that there were “several management failures” when it came to on-set safety and “if standard industry practices were followed” Hutchins would still be alive.

Baldwin has cooperated with the police and maintained that it was an accident. He said during an ABC interview in December that he“didn’t pull the trigger.” However, an FBI forensic examination, obtained by ABC, concluded that the revolver “functioned normally” and would not have fired without the trigger being pulled.

The filming of the Western is the subject of multiple lawsuits. In 2021, Mamie Mitchell, a script supervisor on the movie, claimed there were no directions for firing a gun in the writing. Mitchell, represented by the same lawyer as Hutchins’ parents, is suing for compensation, as she is in “not in any condition to be a script supervisor” due to the traumatic experience. The chief armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, is also the target of several civil lawsuits and shares the criminal charge with Baldwin, although she has also filed her own lawsuit against the ammo supplier.

Despite all of the ongoing litigation, the filming of ‘Rust’ is reportedly set to resume in 2023.

Deadly attack near Jerusalem is ‘terrorism’ – Netanyahu

Hamas has described the incident as a “heroic operation” but has not claimed responsibility

Two people, including a six-year-old boy, were killed and several others injured when a car plowed into a group standing at a bus stop just outside Jerusalem on Friday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned the incident as a terrorist attack.

At least five others were injured in the car-ramming, which occurred at a Jewish settlement near East Jerusalem’s Ramot neighborhood. The victims were waiting for a bus at the time of the incident, with one person understood to be in critical condition. Police have said that the driver was shot dead at the scene by officers.

“Everyone was lying out, thrown about, in very bad condition,” volunteer medic Ariel Ben-David told Army Radio. “To our regret, one child did not survive.”

Graphic footage shared on social media showed the aftermath of the incident, with several injured parties visible. It was reported that an armed civilian shot at the vehicle before police engaged it.

Israeli PM Netanyahu branded the incident a terrorist attack and ordered security to be bolstered in the region, as well as requesting that the suspected terrorist’s home be destroyed, in line with government policy.

“I conducted a security assessment and ordered an increase in forces, to carry out arrests and act immediately to seal the terrorist’s house and demolish it,” Netanyahu said.

A spokesman for Hamas, the Palestinian nationalist organization that controls Gaza, referred to the attack as a “heroic operation” but stopped short of claiming responsibility.

The incident comes amid increased tensions in the region. In late January, seven people were shot dead by a Palestinian gunman outside a synagogue in Jerusalem. That came just days after nine Palestinians were killed following an Israeli special forces operation in the city of Jenin in the northern West Bank.

SpaceX limits military use of Starlink for Ukraine

Elon Musk’s company justified the move by saying Kiev had “weaponized” its satellite internet service

SpaceX has reduced the Ukrainian military’s ability to use Starlinksatellite internet service to control dronesin its conflict with Russia, the company’s president Gwynne Shotwell has said.

SpaceX was “really pleased to be able to provide Ukraine connectivity,” but the technology “was never intended to be weaponized,” Shotwell told the 25th Annual FAA Commercial Space Transportation Conference in Washington on Wednesday.

“The Ukrainians have leveraged [Starlink] in ways that were unintentional and not part of any agreement. So you know, we have to work on that [with] Starlink,” she said.

Shotwell later clarified to journalists that she was talking about Kiev’s forces relying on Starlink to control drones in surveillance and attack operations.

“There are things that we can do to limit their ability to do that,” she explained, referring to Ukraine’s use of Starlink with the UAVs, as quoted by Reuters. “There are things that we can do, and have done,” Shotwell added, without identifying the exact measures that had been implemented.

The company president said the deal that SpaceX had with the government of Vladimir Zelensky provided for the satellite service to be applied for purely humanitarian purposes, such as providing internet to hospitals, banks and families affected by the fighting.

“We know the military is using them for comms, and that’s OK. But our intent was never to have them use it for offensive purposes,” she pointed out.

When asked if the company had anticipated that the technology might be abused by Kiev before providing it, the president said: “We didn’t think about it… But we learned pretty quickly.”

SpaceX donated $80 million worth of Starlink terminals to Ukraine at the beginning of the conflict last February, with the US and French governments later paying for more stations to be sent to the country.

Shotwell said she couldn’t say whether the unexplained outages of the satellite service in Ukraine late last year were a result of the company’s efforts to curb its use for offensive purposes.

In autumn, Musk warned that Russia had been“actively trying to kill Starlink.” SpaceX was forced to allocate a lot of resources to shield it from jamming and continue operating, but “even so, Starlink may still die,” he said.

North Korea unveils record number of missiles

New ICBMs were on display during a military parade in Pyongyang marking 75 years since the foundation of the DPRK army

North Korea has again flexed its muscles, with a display in its capital Pyongyang on Wednesday of what experts soon observed was the largest number of intercontinental ballistic missiles that it has ever paraded. The show of military force featured eleven of its newest Hwasong-17 rockets.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Thursday that the “grand” event had been held to celebrate the DPRK military's 75th anniversary.

The country’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un watched the proceedings along with his wife Ri Sol-ju and their daughter Kim Ju-ae.

Among the “ultra-modern military hardware” featured in the parade were what KCNA described as “tactical nuclear weapons operation units.”

These were followed by Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), which, according to the state-run media, represent the “tremendous nuclear-strike capability of the DPRK.”

The message to any potential foes was a “nuke for [a] nuke and an all-out-confrontation for an all-out-confrontation,” the report explained.

Pyongyang conducted the first known test of the Hwasong-17 in 2022.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Ankit Panda from the US-based Carnegie Endowment for International Peace argued that “this is cumulatively more ICBM launchers than we've ever seen before at a North Korean parade.”

Assessing the photos released by KCNA, media outlet Politico media warned that North Korea appears to now possess enough missiles to “conceivably overwhelm the United States’ defense against them.”

According to Politico’s estimates, the US has a total of 44 ground-based interceptors to destroy a potential incoming North Korean ICBM. However, if the DPRK’s missiles can carry four warheads, their number would exceed the number of American defenses, the report pointed out.

The article went on to describe this week’s parade as a “defiant display” that highlights Pyongyang’s “stunning military advancement and Western failures to get the ruling Kim family to part with its weapons.”

Some Western experts also paid particular attention to what they believe to be aprototype or mockup of a new solid-fuel ICBM.

While so far the DPRK has relied on missiles that have to be filled with liquid fuel at a launch site, the country has for some time beenseeking to develop a solid-fuel alternative.

If North Korea succeeds, its military will have rockets that do not require a time-consuming fueling process before launch - which would make them harder for an enemy to spot during a conflict.

Mayorkas hired a high power outside counsel law firm for impeachment. Biggs was on Bannon and said they are working on this in a couple of committees. Biggs and Bannon say they know its real when he hires a very expensive outside law firm; even though there are 100s of qualified attorneys at DOJ.

DHS hires outside law firm for help with potential Mayorkas impeachment

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has hired a law firm to aid in responding to the potential GOP House-led impeachment of Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the department said Friday.

The contract, signed with New-York based firmDebevoise & Plimpton, comes a week after a second article of impeachment was filed by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) and represents a change in approach for an agency that had previously not assigned any staff to the topic.

“The Department of Homeland Security has retained outside counsel to help ensure the Department’s vital mission is not interrupted by the unprecedented, unjustified, and partisan impeachment efforts by some Members of Congress, who have already taken steps to initiate proceedings,” a DHS spokesperson said in a statement.

“DHS will continue prioritizing its work to protect our country from terrorism, respond to natural disasters, and secure our borders while responding appropriately to the over 70 Congressional committees and subcommittees that have oversight of DHS.”

The contract, first reported by Politico, will tap the firm to help respond to any eventual House inquiry.

Republicans have yet to take any action on the resolutions, but House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and other Republican leaders have pledged what could be lengthy investigations ahead of an eventual impeachment.

DHS doesn’t have any staff on hand with expertise in such a matter, an agency official told The Hill, and said the scale of legal assistance needed will depend on how the GOP decides to proceed with its probe. Still, the department declined to outline other financial details of the retainer.

The impeachment of Cabinet officials isexceedingly rare and hasn’t occurred since 1876, when Secretary of War William Belknap was impeached for taking kickbacks.

The Republicans leading the charge to impeach Mayorkas have accused him of lying to Congress when he’s asserted to lawmakers that DHS has maintained operational control over the border.

Biggs held a forum this week at the Heritage Foundation to discuss the potential impeachment.

But he’s facing some resistance from within his own party, largely from fellow Mayorkas critics who feel it’s essential to launch a thorough investigation of the secretary through committees of jurisdiction before such a matter proceeds to the House floor.

The right wing of the House GOP has floated impeaching a number of Biden cabinet officials and even President Biden himself.

Much of the case against Mayorkas, however, rests on a law that primarily laid out requirements for installing fencing along the border but also created a standard dictating the “prevention of all unlawful entries into the United States.”

“The Secure Fence Act of 2006 requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to take all actions ‘necessary and appropriate to achieve and maintain operational control over the entire international land and maritime borders of the United States,’” Biggs said in a statement.

“Instead of taking all actions ‘necessary and appropriate’ to achieve operational control of the border, Secretary Mayorkas is facilitating illegal immigration through the nonenforcement of laws we have already on the books and by willfully reversing necessary border policies.”
