God does know why. I had half a dozen and barring a miracle from Him I will probably have no grandchildren. I was thinking and praying about this today and considering that some of my childless friends may have been spared significant heartache.
Infertility may be caused by toxins that you and your wife may be able to rid yourselves of. I have seen this happen for people-they clean up their diet, etc. and get pregnant.
That said, it is God who opens the womb. If you aren't right with God that is the best place to start. Personally, having ended up divorced and alienated from 5 of 6 children I am praying through the things I can repent of and the areas where I need to grow.
On the very practical side, knowing what I know now I would not have a baby in America unless my relationship with God was firm and:

I was ready to protect that child from all vaccines. Look into home birth.

I had a rock solid community that would protect me and my family and I theirs.

Enough finances to be independent.
