After the presumed Chinese 'spy balloon' became a media event a bunch of calls and messages to the effect of 'What do you mean balloons are not on your threat matrix or in your area of responsibility, General?' went around the US MIL. The affected personnel will be sore for some time and hyper-sensitive to any object in their airspace for the next three months or so, then the normal complacency will re-emerge through the Peter Principle.

After 12 hours of painstakingly searching, mile after mile, all Inner Mongolia using Apple maps I've finally found the location of the allegedly Chinese balloon launch facility mentioned recently in a WSJ article.

 

It is located in the Siziwang Banner, 138 km N of Hohhot.
