Ex-Australian embassy employee pleads guilty over cameras found in women's bathrooms at Bangkok mission
A former staff member at the Australian embassy in Bangkok has pleaded guilty to installing tiny hidden cameras in two women's bathrooms inside the secure government building.

Nayot "Bank" Thamsongsana, 39, appeared in the Bangkok South Criminal Court on January 30 and pleaded guilty to committing an indecent act to persons over 15 years of age by threatening with any means.
The locally engaged embassy employee was arrested by Royal Thai Police in January 2022 after a camera's digital memory card was found on a bathroom floor inside the Bangkok mission.
He was fired from his job as an IT systems manager the day after his arrest.
His guilty plea came just over a year later, on the day prosecutors and the defence had come to court for a witness and evidence examination hearing to determine the trial hearing dates.

"[Nayot] looked at the evidence to prepare to fight the case … and after he checked all the evidence, documents, and statements from the prosecutor, he confessed and pleaded guilty," deputy spokesman for the Office of the Attorney-General, Kosonlawat Inthuchanyong, told the ABC.
"He confessed that he put the cameras in the toilets to secretly watch the activity inside the toilets.
"An act like this is committing an indecent act by threatening, because there is no-one who would allow others to do that to them."
Images of two women recorded by hidden bathroom cameras
Sixty women who used the bathrooms where the cameras were installed gave statements to police.
"Many of them must have been so frightened and worried if their image was taken, or if they were watched," Mr Kosonlawat said.
"They filed complaints but after checking all the evidence we were informed by the prosecutor that only images of two people were recorded and found."

Republicans Renew Demands For Interviews With Ex-Intel Officials Who Discredited Hunter Biden Laptop As 'Disinformation'
Pressure is ratcheting up on signers of a controversial October 2020 statement alleging that the Hunter Biden laptop bore “all the classic earmarks of a Russian disinformation operation” to agree to on-the-record transcribed interviews with investigators for the House Judiciary Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
“The Committee on the Judiciary and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence are conducting oversight of federal law-enforcement and intelligence matters within our respective jurisdictions.
“The judiciary committee made a prior request to you for documents and information about the public statement you signed in October 2020 that falsely implied the New York Post’s reporting about Hunter Biden was the product of Russian disinformation,” Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Intelligence Chairman Mike Turner (R-Ohio) said in Feb. 13 letters obtained by The Epoch Times.
“This request, to include a request for a transcribed interview before the committees, remains outstanding. These documents and your testimony are necessary to further our oversight.
“As we begin the 118th Congress, we write again to reiterate our outstanding request and ask that you immediately comply in full,” Jordan and Turner told the recipients.
“You have been on notice about our oversight request—and aware the request is outstanding—for months. For your convenience, we have attached the letter from the Judiciary Committee dated April 6, 2022. To date, you have not complied with this request. Accordingly, we reiterate our requests and ask that you comply promptly,” Jordan and Turner wrote.
The 10 recipients of the request from Jordan and Turner include former Secretary of Defense and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director Leon Panetta, Marc Polymeropoulos, a former CIA Senior Operations Officer, former CIA Chief of Staff Larry Pfeiffer, former CIA Senior Intelligence Officer Kristin Wood, former Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) Deputy Director Douglas Wise, former CIA Chief of Staff Rodney Snyder, former CIA Senior Intelligence Officer Patty Brandmaier, former CIA Senior Intelligence Officer James Bruce, former CIA Senior Operations Officer Paul Kolbe, former National Intelligence Officer Roger George.
The Epoch Times is seeking comment from each of the 10 recipients.
The 10 letters made public on Feb. 13 follow similar missives to another dozen of the 51 signers of the Oct. 19, 2020, statement that was widely publicized by the mainstream media and cited as justification by social media outlets like Twitter and Facebook for censoring news reports about the laptop that was left at a Delaware computer repair shop by President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter.

Trump wants firing squads and televised executions – Rolling Stone
While the former president’s team called the report “fake news,” Trump is a firm proponent of the death penalty
Former President Donald Trump has discussed the possibility of broadcasting the execution of groups of violent criminals to deter would-be offenders, Rolling Stone reported on Tuesday. Although Trump’s campaign called the report “ridiculous,” Trump has previously demanded swift trials and capital punishment for drug dealers and pedophiles.
Prior to announcing his 2024 presidential campaign in November, Trump asked some of his associates about the possibility of executing criminals by firing squad, hanging, and guillotine, the left-wing magazine claimed, citing “people familiar with the situation.”
Trump also discussed whether criminals could be executed in groups, and “mused about the possibility” of creating a government-funded ad campaign that would show footage from these executions, the article continued.
“The [former] president believes this would help put the fear of God into violent criminals,” one of the sources said. A former White House official told the magazine that Trump was big on the idea of executing large numbers of drug dealers and drug lords, and would argue that “‘These people don’t care about anything,’ and that they run their drug empire and their deals from prison anyways, and then they get back out on the street…and keep committing crimes. Therefore, they need to be eradicated, not jailed.”
A Trump spokesman wrote the article off as “more ridiculous and fake news from idiots who have no idea what they’re talking about.” The spokesman added that “either these people are fabricating lies out of thin air, or Rolling Stone is allowing themselves to be duped by these morons.”
Nevertheless, Trump has been a capital punishment advocate for more than a decade, declaring in 2012 that “perverts” who abduct children should face a “fast trial, [and the] death penalty.” He called for a similar fate for people who murder police officers in 2020, and praised China for executing drug dealers, stating that the country has “very little, if any” problems with drugs as a result.
Thirteen federal inmates were put to death during Trump’s administration, while only three executions took place between 1963 and 2020. State executions are more common, with between eight and 39 death sentences carried out in state facilities every year since 2013. All of the Trump-era executions were performed by lethal injection, although a number of states allow for use of the electric chair or firing squads.

Nominee who said Hakeem Jeffries was 'bought' by pro-Israel groups withdrawn by Biden

President Biden withdrew the nomination Tuesday of a Harvard law professor who was put forth as a candidate for the Inter American Commission on Human Rights after the administration became aware that he had made comments that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries was "bought" by pro-Israel groups.
The nominee, James Cavallaro, accused the New York Democratic representative of being "Bought. Purchased. Controlled" by pro-Israel lobbying groups.
State Department spokesperson Ned Price said that the Biden administration didn't know about the comments when they were considering Cavallaro.
“We were not aware of the statements and writings,” Price said in a press briefing with reporters where he announced the withdrawal of Cavallaro's nomination.
A non-profit news outlet covering Jewish news, The Algemeiner, was the first to cover Cavallaro's remarks.
"His statements clearly do not reflect U.S. policy, they are not a reflection of what we believe and they are inappropriate to say the least," Price said.

Secret China Donations to University of Delaware Soared After the Opening of the Biden Institute
A second university has been found to have received more than $6.7 million in anonymous donations from China, including direct funding from the Chinese government, after Joe Biden set up a program there in his name, according to a Government Accountability Institute analysis. The revelation comes following reporting that anonymous China-linked funds flowing to the University of Pennsylvania almost tripled after the inauguration of the Penn-Biden Center, which illegally housed classified documents.
On March 13, 2017, less than seven weeks after concluding his second term as vice president, Joe Biden announced the founding of the Biden Institute at his home state’s University of Delaware (UD). According to the announcement, part of Biden’s “vision for the institute is an annual conference at UD, similar to the World Economic Forum or the Aspen Institute.”
At the time of Biden’s announcement at UD, multiple members of the Biden family were working on deals worth millions of dollars with foreign businessmen linked to the highest levels of Chinese intelligence. And Biden’s other university program at the University of Pennsylvania was apparently housing classified documents from the Obama-Biden administration in an improper way.
Prior to hosting the Biden Institute, UD had never disclosed any funding from China. One year later (and just two months after the Penn Biden center opened its D.C. office), anonymous donations from China to UD skyrocketed. The first payment came in April 2018 in the amount of $3,204,070 from an anonymous donor in China. In December 2018, another anonymous donation from China arrived for $1,869,515. A third anonymous China-linked payment, for $624,904, arrived in December 2019.
In 2020, the year that Biden was campaigning for president, anonymous Chinese state-linked entities sent three more payments totaling $1,005,761 to UD, the bulk of which arrived after Biden had been declared the president-elect.
Three of these donations from China—with a combined total of $1,005,761—were reported as coming from a “Foreign Government Source,” according to the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) records assembled from information reported to the DOE by the University of Delaware.
It should be noted that, according to the available records, none the donations from China to the University of Pennsylvania following the creation of the Penn Biden Center appear to have been reported to the DOE as coming from a “Foreign Government Source” — a fact which led at least one fact-checker to conclude that the Penn Biden Center was being unfairly labeled as “China-funded” because the influx of funding from China to UPenn following its establishment was not given this DOE identifier. However, three donations originating from China to the University of Delaware in the years following the launch of the Biden Institute clearly bear the “Foreign Government Source” identifier.
The actual DOE record field for this identifier asks, “Is this funding from a government?” For these three donations, the answer supplied by the University of Delaware is “Yes,” as seen in the three images below taken from the DOE website (highlight added for emphasis).

One month after meeting with the incoming UD president, Hunter discussed plans for both the Biden Institute at UD and the Biden Center at UPenn with a talent agent named Craig Gering, his laptop correspondence shows. Gering’s “confidential notes” reveal plans for Hunter Biden to serve in some capacity at the Penn Biden Center, where classified documents were recently found to be stored illegally.
Gering noted that the Biden academic ventures could operate like the “Clinton Global Initiative without the money raise.” The Clinton Global Initiative, GAI previously reported, served as a way to enrich the Clinton family foundation by brokering access to Hillary Clinton’s State Department. The Clintons had to raise their own funds for their initiative, prompting the question of how the Biden programs would work “without the money raise.” Chinese government funding could be at least part of the answer.
Gering’s closing thoughts regarding the Biden academic ventures indicate they would be primarily about “wealth creation” for the Biden family. These ventures began as the Biden family was personally collecting large amounts of money — ultimately some $31 million — from deals linked to the highest levels of Chinese intelligence and as Hunter was paying for his father’s bills — a potential crime while Joe Biden served as vice president of the United States.
Multiple members of the Biden family also appear to have been involved in the planning of the Biden Institute.
UD has long held troves of Biden’s Senate records — more than 1,800 boxes — and has stymied public requests to view these records. In June 2022, a judge rebuked UD for its lack of transparency. It is unknown what documents, classified or otherwise, the Biden Institute at UD may have been housing from Biden’s vice presidency.
After the Penn Biden Center’s funding from China almost tripled, the university sent an open letter to the Justice Department calling for an end to investigations into Chinese espionage within American universities (UPenn alleged due to concerns over “racial profiling”). The Biden Justice Department acquiesced.
But there is reason to believe that Chinese espionage at universities warrants more investigation, not less, particularly at UD.
In February 2022, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), sent a letter to UD President Dennis Assanis urging UD to terminate its academic and research partnership with China’s Xiamen University. Xiamen University actively supports Beijing’s military-industrial complex and allegedly conspired with Huawei to steal trade secrets from an American semiconductor startup. UD appears to still be working closely with Xiamen University and its personnel.
The Justice Department, the FBI, and a special counsel are under mounting pressure to scour Biden’s records at the University of Delaware for additional classified materials. Last month, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre dodged when asked if President Biden had any objection to a search of his records at the UD.
Whether the White House objects or not, investigators might also examine the secret China money flowing to both the UD Biden Institute and the Penn Biden Center.

Lawyer of Memester Charged by DOJ: ACLU ‘Nowhere to Be Found’ on Threat to All ‘Political Speech’
James Lawrence, a lawyer representing Douglass Mackey — a social media figure known as “Ricky Vaughn” — said on Tuesday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow that the American Civil Rights Union (ACLU) “is nowhere to be found” and “MIA” with respect to the U.S. Justice Department’s (DOJ) prosecution of his client for speech protected by the First Amendment.
In 2016, Mackey shared a satirical meme on Twitter in ahead of the year’s presidential election urging supporters of Hillary Clinton to vote via text message. In January of 2021, the DOJ framed this comedic meme as a “crime.” The DOJ announced its laying of charges against Mackey for allegedly committing “election interference stemming from [a] voter disinformation campaign.”
Lawrence remarked on the ACLU’s lack of comment on the executive branch’s attempt to further undermine the First Amendment.
“Our nation’s most venerable civil liberties organization — the ACLU — has not been in the trenches with us shoulder-to-shoulder.”
He added, “They’ve been MIA, much like they were MIA in the early days of the pandemic, when soccer moms were being arrested for protesting against the lockdowns in various states. So, they’re in MIA not only on the issues that were going on back in March and April of 2020, but this very, very significant criminal prosecution.”
Lawrence said the ACLU is “nowhere to be found” despite Mackey facing ten years in prison if convicted of charges related to “election interference.”
Marlow noted the ACLU’s partisan Democrat alignment in terms of its publicly disclosed donations to political campaigns and action committees. In 2016, Hillary Clinton was the ACLU’s primary beneficiary, with the left-wing organization donating almost $30,000 to her presidential campaign. Nearly all of the ACLU’s publicly disclosed official political donations go to Democrats.
Lawrence explained that the DOJ’s charges against his client are predicated on federal statutes enacted to criminalize coercion and intimidation of American citizens in relation to the constitutional right to vote.
“Mr. Mackey is alleged to have published memes inviting supporters of Hillary Clinton to text their vote in, to skip a line, and to make their voice heard using text message as opposed to going to the polls,” Lawrence stated, “and what eventually happened is, of course, President Trump went to historic victory in the 2016 election. And literally two days after President Biden was sworn into office, my client, Mr. Mackey, is arrested by the FBI and brought up on charges under an old Civil War Reconstruction Era statute — 18 U.S.C. 241 — for conspiracy to infringe on individuals’ constitutional right to vote.”
He continued, “We think it’s an extraordinary extension of the federal government’s control and regulation of speech, and that the case really has troubling implications for all speech. … If this case ultimately ends in a guilty verdict against my client … we have a really serious problem for the First Amendment in this country.
“The defense team in this case see this as a Pandora’s box that the federal government wants to open,” Lawrence concluded, “and we are committed to shutting the door on this theory for the benefit of not only our clients but all Americans.”
