Taylor Lorenz in Twitter feud with ‘Sopranos’ meme account over COVID vaccine

February 14, 2022

Washington Post internet reporter Taylor Lorenz accused a “Sopranos”-themed meme account on Twitter for promoting “anti-vaxxer COVID denialism” after the operator of the Twitter handle mocked her for having a “no-show job.”

Lorenz, who has more than 355,000 Twitter followers, took umbrage over the weekend at a humorous tweet from the Twitter account known as “Socialist Sopranos Memes.”

The Twitter account, which is run by an operator who goes by the handle @gabagoolmarx, posts memes inspired by characters from the hit HBO crime drama that starred the late James Gandolfini, which aired for six seasons between 1999 and 2007.

The meme targeting Lorenz featured mobster Christopher Moltisanti, who was played by actor Michael Imperioli, having a conversation with his uncle, family boss Tony Soprano.

“She’s called Taylor Lorenz, T,” the caption reads.

“She’s supposed to be a journalist but all she ever does is tell people they’re ableist if they go to a restaurant for some dinner.”

“Think we can get in on some no-show jobs like that?”

Lorenz fired back after being mocked.

“The socialist sopranos meme account has joined the anti vaxxer covid denialist harassment campaign against me today,” she tweeted.

“Very cool and leftist to align yourself with these people.”

The operator of the meme account clapped back, tweeting: “I got the vaccine the moment it was made available to me, actually. April 2021. But this Washington Post ‘Journalist’ likes to make things up about meme accounts, apparently.”

Lorenz then clarified her criticism, accusing the meme account operator of “hopp[ing] in on an anti vaxxer led harassment campaign / pile on” by posting claims that were “indistinguishable from what those far right accounts are saying.”

Lorenz has been a vocal critic of the lifting of COVID lockdown measures and mitigation strategies such as mandatory masking, saying that the relaxation of pandemic-era rules and restrictions places people with pre-existing conditions at increased risk.

In December,Lorenz, who frequently wears masks in public due to her~~immunocompromised~~ top retard status, raised eyebrows when she posted a tweet that at first glance appeared to be an endorsement of China’s controversial “zero COVID” strategy.

She criticized her own newspaper for an exposé that cast China’s COVID mitigation efforts as a failure in light of the renewed spread of the virus in recent months.

“Choosing not to kill off millions of vulnerable people (as the US is doing) isn’t a ‘critical flaw,’” Lorenz tweeted. She later denied that the tweet was an endorsement of China’s policies.

Since the start of the pandemic in late 2019, China has sought to completely stamp out the virus by using what many consider draconian tactics, including forcibly isolating infected citizens and cordoning off entire towns and cities.

The government in Beijing recently reversed course on its “zero COVID” strategy after it sparked massive, widespread unrest among the population.

Lorenz has often generated controversy with her social media posts.

In November, she called out a Washington Post colleague, columnist Helaine Olen, who criticized radio shock jock and notorious germaphobe Howard Stern for not leaving his apartment.

Lorenz last year also slammed MSNBC for “mishandling” a segment during which she broke down in tears and described suffering from trauma and suicidal thoughts in the face of “abuse” from online critics.

QUID PRO BRO

James Biden's 'name didn't hurt' when firm hired him to broker secret $140M Saudi deal while Joe was veep, docs reveal

President Joe Biden’s brother Jim Biden was allegedly hired to help negotiate a $140 million settlement between a private US company and the Saudi government – purely because his family name “didn’t hurt,” a new report said Tuesday.

February 14, 2023

Now-first brother James Biden was hired to help a Philadelphia construction company resolve a decades-old dispute with the Saudi government because he was the sibling of then-Vice President Joe Biden, court documents reveal.

The 2017 admission by James Biden, referenced in two affidavits from May 2021, is certain to draw the attention of the GOP-led House Oversight Committee as it investigates the first family’s influence-peddling dating back years.

The affidavit, first obtained by DailyMail.com, was filed in a dispute between the construction company, Hill International, and one of three law firms it hired to help claw back approximately $140 million the Saudis owed for a desalinization plant built by a Hill subsidiary in the 1980s.

That firm,Lankford & Reed, claims that Hill International also hired James Biden, now 73, in 2011 to negotiate a secret deal with the Saudis to settle the dispute – and get out of paying Lankford the 40% cut outlined in their contract.

In July 2017, Thomas Sullivan, a former Treasury Department official-turned-private investigator hired by Lankford, drove to James Biden’s home in suburban Philadelphia to discuss his role with Hill.

According to Sullivan’s sworn statement, James Biden said he was hired to handle Hill’s “business development” and had been assigned to help with the company’s interests in Saudi Arabia.

The first brother added that he was often tapped to represent Hill in meetings “because, of course, the name didn’t hurt,” Sullivan recalled.

==James Biden also told Sullivan he had attended a February 2012 meeting with Saudi officials at which Hill would receive “final payment” for the desalination plant. Biden added that he had attended the meeting “because of his position and relationship” with his older brother, then Barack Obama’s No. 2.

According to the president’s sibling, Hill’s payment for its subsidiary’s work “would be made in both cash and ‘a very large amount'” of future business==, Sullivan said.

After the meeting, Sullivan alleged, JamesBiden’s wife Sara walked him to his car and revealed that her husband and his older brother Joe were very close, and that they told each other everything.”

Sara Biden also told Sullivan that “he doesn’t like us talking to people,” the ex-Treasury man recalled.

“I didn’t ask for a further explanation,” Sullivan said, “since I was looking at two large men in dark suits, in a big black sedan parked on a side street looking directly into their house down the walkway I had just exited. I thought they were some type of security, probably Secret Service.”

In a separate affidavit, Lankford & Reed partner Thomas Lankford alleged that his firm and the Saudis had tentatively agreed on a settlement of Hill’s claims worth around $100 million by November 2011. However, after James Biden’s February 2012 meeting with Saudi officials in Riyadh, Hill initially “went dark” — then claimed that the Saudis had backed off on the settlement.

According to Lankford, Hill International CEO Irvin Richter had told him that he had retained James Biden because the Saudis “would not dare stiff the brother of the Vice-President who would be instrumental to the deal.”

Lankford’s affidavit does not elaborate on why Richter believed Joe Biden would be “instrumental” to any settlement.

After James Biden’s February 2012 meeting, Lankford said, Richter “seemed indifferent” to the ongoing dispute and communicated with the law firms “only infrequently.”

In addition, Lankford claimed, US government officials, “who had previously been helpful, became guarded and emphasized that Hill was doing lots of business in Saudi Arabia.”

At some point after 2014, when Lankford said Richter declined his offer to sue the Saudis to settle the debt, James Biden revealed that Hill and Riyadh “had secretly agreed to settle … through the award of future contracts.”

According to Lankford, James Biden “also stated that the settlement may have involved a cash payment to Richter.”

As of May 2021, Lankford claimed, Hill International and its affiliates had been awarded $358 million from the Saudis in construction management contracts since February 2011 after doing “virtually no business” with Riyadh prior.

It is unclear from the affidavits how much James Biden was paid for his work on Hill’s behalf. A rep for the first brother didn’t immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Milley:First Missile Fired at Fourth 'Balloon' Missed, But Landed Harmlessly

February 14, 2023

Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley today confirmed reports that one of the missiles fired on Sunday by the U.S. Air Force missed its target over Lake Huron. A second missile brought the unidentified object down.

"Yes, the first shot missed on the fourth balloon, so we're talking about the balloon that was downed over Lake Huron."

Milley noted that it took only one missile to down the other three floating objects, including the enormous Chinese spy balloon downed off the coast of South Carolina a week ago Saturday; the first unidentified object shot down over the north coast of Alaska last Friday; and the second object shot down in the Yukon on Saturday.

"So the most important thing for the American military is to protect the American people," Milley said:

"So we evaluate the risk; we evaluate the risk of the balloons themselves, are they a kinetic threat or not, yes, no? Are they an intelligence threat, are they a threat to civilian aviation? All those things we go through very, very carefully.

"We determine what the debris field is likely to be, with one of these platforms landing on the earth's surface or in the water. So we go to great lengths to make sure that the air space is clear, that the backdrop is clear, out to the max effective range of the missile.

"And in this case, the missile landed harmlessly in the water of Lake Huron. We certainly tracked it all the way down. And we made sure that the air space was clear of any commercial and/or recreational traffic.

"We do the same thing for the maritime space. So we're very, very deliberate in our planning ..to make sure that those shots are, in fact, safe."

Milley said none of the debris from the three most recent objects has been recovered, and he said it will take a while to get to the crash sites, given the difficult terrain of the three debris fields.

They didn't want to shoot it down and disclose the crap shape they're currently in, imho.

MISSED?

MISSED?

MISSED the slowest moving airborn object in the sky? Holy sheet..

Michigan State gunman Anthony McRae turned ‘evil’ after mom died: dad

February 14, 2023

The crazed man who killed three Michigan State University students and critically injured five others Monday sank into a deep depression that made him “evil” after his mother died in 2020, his dad said.

Police said there is no clear motive for gunman Anthony Dwayne McRae’s violent rampage, but his father described his dark spiral in the past two years in an interview with NBC News Tuesday morning.

“He was a mama’s boy. He loved his mom. They were tight. His mom was like his sister,” said Michael McRae, who lived with his son in Michigan.

“He was grieving his mom. He wouldn’t let it go. He got bitter, bitter and bitter.

“His mom died, and he just started getting evil and mean. He didn’t care about anything anymore,” the dad continued.

McRae, 43, refused to leave his room and quit his job after his mother, Linda Gail McRae, died suddenly on Sept. 13, 2020, from a stroke.

The anon Erin Brockovich whisperer of yesterday spoke' Erin listened

Erin Brockovich tells residents of East Palestine to 'get out' if they don't feel safe after toxic train explosion and warns locals not to rely on feds for anything as local wildlife begins to drop dead

A train carrying toxic fuel from Madison, Illinois to Conway, Pennsylvania derailed on February 3 in Ohio, near the town of East Palestine

The EPA say the area is safe to return to but residents are reporting fish and chickens dying in large numbers, and some locals complain of coughs

Erin Brockovich, whose environmental crusade was turned into a Julia Roberts film, on Tuesday told residents their priority was taking care of their own health

February 14, 2023

Erin Brockovich has urged those living near the Ohio site where a train carrying toxic waste derailed two weeks ago to prioritize their own safety, telling them to be skeptical of EPA assurances that the site is safe.

Brockovich, an environmental lawyer and consultant, whose work battling Pacific Gas & Electric was turned into the 2000 film starring Julia Roberts, said she was deeply concerned about the reports emerging from East Palestine.

'After 30 years of what I've been through, and what this community is going through - come on,' she said, when asked if she believed EPA statements claiming the site was safe.

'It's vinyl chloride, it's in the air, the fish are dying.

'Does that give you comfort that maybe I should be in this area? Probably not.'

Brockovich, 62, told NewsNation that those living near the site needed to take care of themselves, and trust their gut instincts.

She also stressed the importance of recording what they saw and felt.

'I need the community to act for themselves,' she told the network.

'If you feel unsafe, then please - get out of harm's way. If you feel unsafe, stay sheltered in place. If you're questioning if it's all clear, and you think it isn't, listen to that voice.

'Document what's happening to your own health. Document or videotape the fish that are dying, as you move about your community.

'I think it will be critical.'
