In a huge win for Chester County and Pennsylvania as a whole, a Commonwealth Court issued a favorable ruling on Friday to an appeal around precinct recounts. The appeal argued that the law either means what it says or we’re ruled by the whims of officials.
Many citizens across the commonwealth had concerns following the 2020 and 2022 elections, with many having come together to utilize the law after the 2022 election to try and gain transparency and understanding into their precinct results after watching disturbing fluctuations in the vote totals through the evening.
The law around these recounts is fairly clearly worded, however the counties, courts, state, and press thought it better to fight every attempt at transparency. These officials demanded things that the statute does not require, such as millions of dollars in filing fees.
Audit The Vote PA is happy to announce the ruling Friday indicates there is still a rule of law in Pennsylvania and officials willing to adhere to it. The ruling eviscerates the arguments that had been made against the recounts by the county and state and calls out the commissioners in Chester County for violating election code by certifying the election with outstanding recount petitions.
