Nuland outlines US goals in Ukraine
The Maidan “midwife” (abortionist imo) hopes for conquest of Crimea and regime change in Russia
Unless the Crimean peninsula is at the very least “demilitarized” Ukraine won’t feel safe, while the ideal end to the current conflict is with a revolution in Moscow, the US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said on Thursday.
Ukrainians “have to get to a map that is more sustainable for them,” Nuland said in a videointerview with the Washington think tank Carnegie Endowment. They have “significant chunks of territory they need to be a viable state, before you even get to the question of Crimea, and that’s what they’re focused on now.”
The US position is that Ukraine is “owed and due all of their territory within their international borders,” which means Crimea as well, Nuland added.
Assigned to Ukraine by the Soviet Union in 1954, Crimea voted to rejoin Russia in March 2014, after the violent coup in Kiev that Nuland helped “midwife,” according to the infamous phone call intercept.
“Ukraine is not going to be safe unless Crimea is – at a minimum, at a minimum – demilitarized,” Nuland insisted on Thursday, claiming that Moscow had turned the peninsula into a military base, with command posts, logistics depots and airfields for “Iranian drones.”
“Those are legitimate targets, Ukraine is hitting them, and we are supporting that,” she said.
Earlier this week, Politico quoted two anonymous officials to imply that Nuland’s boss, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, had admitted the US was not “actively encouraging” Ukraine to seize Crimea and that any moves on the peninsula would be “Kiev’s decision alone.”
Nuland, however, told Carnegie that the battlefield objectives of Washington and Kiev overlap “in terms of what the Ukrainians want to do on the battlefield, and what we’re enabling them to plan to do.”
Asked how she saw the conflict ending, Nuland said the West “must never trust, as long as Vladimir Putin is in power, or somebody like him, that this is truly over.”Even if the fighting ends on Ukraine’s terms, there “has to be a long-term plan” to build up Ukraine’s military as a deterrent. She also expressed a preference for Russians overthrowing their government for a “better future” offered by the West.
The US has committed more than $100 billion in military aid to Ukraine just over the past year, but Washington officially insists it is not a party to the conflict.

The billionaire activist has called Donald Trump a “pitiful figure” that could trigger collapse of the Republican party
Billionaire political activist George Soros said he’s rooting for the 2024 Republican presidential race to come down to a slugfest between former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis – a battle that he sees leading to the party’s collapse.
“Trump has turned into a pitiful figure continually bemoaning his loss in 2020,” the Hungarian-born leftist said on Thursday at the Munich Security Conference. “Big Republican donors are abandoning him in droves. DeSantis is shrewd, ruthless and ambitious. He is likely to be the Republican candidate.”
Soros, the largest donor to Democratic Party candidates in the 2022 election cycle, said a DeSantis victory in 2024 could lead to disaster for Republicans. “This could induce Trump, whose narcissism has turned into a disease, to run as a third-party candidate. This would lead to a Democratic landslide and force the Republican party to reform itself.”
While Soros jokingly acknowledged that he may be “just a little big biased” against Republicans, the election scenario that he hopes to see play out probably isn’t far-fetched. Support for Trump among Republican voters has declined in the wake of the 2022 congressional midterms, in which candidates endorsed by the former president fared worse than expected. DeSantis, who won re-election as governor by a historic margin and led a Republican ticket in which Florida candidates helped the party win back control of Congress, is currently polling ahead of Trump as the GOP’s leading 2024 candidate.

The governor hasn’t officially entered the presidential race, but Trump has already begun taking shots, nicknaming him “Ron DeSanctimonious” and accusing DeSantis of being a “RINO globalist.” Trump even amplified a social media post alleging that DeSantis was “grooming high school girls” during his short stint working as a teacher decades ago.
Trump reportedly threatened in 2021 to create his own political party, and he hinted in December that might run in 2024 as a third-party candidate if Republican leaders didn’t support him sufficiently. As Soros speculated, such a candidacy would likely ensure victory for the Democrat candidate because Trump and the Republican nominee would split conservative votes.

Pentagon to help troops get abortions
US military officials have unveiled special benefits for service members who want to terminate their pregnancies
The Pentagon has taken steps to ensure that troops have easy access to abortion, offering ample time off and fully funded travel for service members who are stationed in states that banned the procedure in the wake of last year’s US Supreme Court ruling on Roe v Wade.
Department of Defense officials revealed the special benefits on Thursday, saying troops who have to go out of state for an abortion will get up to three weeks of leave and allowances to cover all travel costs. US military branches have 30 days in which to enact the new policies.
Service members can’t control where they are stationed, a senior defense official told Military Times, and the new policies are designed to alleviate potential impact on their “access to essential health care.” The official expressed hope the move “will help ensure long-term that we’re able to recruit, retain and maintain the readiness of a highly qualified force.”
The issue surfaced last summer, when the nation’s high court struck down the abortion protections enshrined in the 1973 Roe v Wade decision and left it up to states to make their own laws on access to the procedure. Dozens of states, including Texas and Georgia, have imposed bans or new restrictions.
The new leave and travel benefits can be accessed whether a service member or his or her dependent needs to access abortion services or fertility treatment out of state. The policy is designed to prevent commanders from delaying leave approvals by taking such steps as requiring troops to undergo medical tests or speak with a chaplain.
“We’re going to have to go after those commanders who do the bad thing, just like we go after toxic commanders,” the unidentified defense official said.
Troops also are given up to 20 weeks, rather than the previous limit of two weeks, to inform their commanders of a pregnancy. Those who choose to delay notification can be placed on light-duty and non-deployable status by a military health care provider, without their condition being disclosed to their commander. However, when a pregnancy is discovered in pre-deployment testing, troops who don’t plan to abort their baby must notify their commander immediately.
A Pentagon study found that 56.2% of women service members who have an unwanted pregnancy didn’t use birth control at the time they conceived.
