Poppy Harlow storms off CNN set after tense spat with Don Lemon over Haley comments

February 16, 2023

Don Lemon’s sexist rant about Nikki Haley on Thursday turned the stomachs of his co-anchors and added to pressure on CNN boss Chris Licht to dump the acid-tongued host, The Post has learned.

A furious Poppy Harlow walked off the “CNN This Morning” set following a tense exchange with Lemon afterhe said the GOP presidential candidate was “not in her prime,” according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

One of the sources said Harlow took a “well-timed” bathroom break and was followed into the restroom by co-host Kaitlan Collins — who recently had her own run-in with Lemon.

The tense relationship between Lemon, Collins and Harlow has “been smoldering for months,” the source added.

A CNN insider said the latest high-profile incident may finally lead to Lichtsqueezing out Lemonfrom the morning gig.

“Chris isn’t happy and he has spoken to Don a couple times today,” the network source said. “Don knows it can’t happen again,”

During an informal meeting Thursday, dubbed “Coffee with Chris,” 30 staffers peppered Licht with questions about the ratings-challenged network.

One asked about Lemon’s comments about the 51-year-old Haley, according to a source with knowledge.

“People say stupid things and that if it’s a trend then there’s recourse,” the source said, paraphrasing Licht’s comments.

CNN did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Lemon didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Harlow did not comment. But a source close to the veteran anchor quipped: “As a woman in her prime, Poppy Harlow does use the bathroom, including on Thursday mornings.”

Collins did not return requests for comment.

Harlow, 40, came back to finish Thursday’s program but had looked stunned on the air whenLemon went on his head-scratching diatribe over Haley calling for mental competency tests for politicians over the age of 75.

“This whole talk about age makes me uncomfortable,” the 56-year-old Lemon began. “I think it’s the wrong road to go down. She says people, you know, politicians are suddenly not in their prime. Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime.”

To the bewilderment of Harlow and Collins, Lemon then said: “A woman is considered to be in their prime in [their] 20s and 30s and maybe 40s.”

Harlow immediately called out the failed primetime host: “What are you talking about, wait … Prime for what?”

Lemon quickly tried to save himself by claiming he wasn’t stating his personal beliefs.

“That’s not according to me,” he said. “It’s like, prime. If you look it up. If you Google when is a woman in her prime, it’ll say 20s, 30s and 40s.”

He continued: “I’m just saying Nikki Haley should be careful about saying that politicians are not in their prime and they need to be in their prime when they serve. Because she wouldn’t be in her prime according to, you know, Google.”

After receiving widespread backlash internally and via Twitter, Lemon issued a public apology.

“The reference I made to a woman’s ‘prime’ this morning was inartful and irrelevant, as colleagues and loved ones have pointed out, and I regret it,” Lemon tweeted. “A woman’s age doesn’t define her either personally or professionally. I have countless women in my life who prove that every day.”

“This ongoing situation is frustrating,” a source with knowledge said, referring to Lemon’s attitude on set. “His comments were misogynistic and sexist.”

In December, Lemon had screamed at Collins after she interrupted him on the air. The two have rarely appeared on set since, though the 30-year-old Collins was there Thursday.

A CNN producer asked Lemon to take the following day off after he reamed out Collins, a source told The Post at the time.

Biden diplomat apologizes for saying Afghan women need 'Black Girl Magic' and to learn from Beyonce and Lizzo under Taliban leadership

She said celebrities like Beyonce and Lizzo might be able to share wisdom with Afghan women living under oppressive Taliban rule

'Sometimes our best intentions go awry because we haven't listened enough or don't truly understand others' lived experience,' she wrote in an apology

State Dept spox Ned Price said her tweet had not been cleared: 'The messaging in this context is rather inappropriate and ineffective'

February 16, 2023

Karen Decker, the top U.S. diplomat to Afghanistan, said in a now-deleted tweet that Afghan women needed some 'Black Girl Magic' while being oppressed under Taliban rule.

She added celebrities like Beyonce and Lizzo might be able to share wisdom with Afghan women, who have been essentially shut out of school and work entirely since the Taliban takeover.

Decker, the Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Mission to Afghanistan, wrote on Twitter on Wednesday: 'Are Afghans familiar with #BlackGirlMagic and the movement it inspired? Do Afghan girls need a similar movement? What about Afghan Women?'

'Teach me, ready to learn. @Beyonce @lizzo @ReginaKing,' it read.

In another tweet that has now been deleted, Decker tried to downplay Abraham Lincoln's birthday and highlight National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Day.

On Monday, she tweeted: 'Abe Lincoln born today in 1809. He did some stuff. It's also NAACP day, home of grassroots activism, inclusive communities and making sure Black voices are heard. What does that look like for Afghans struggling to be heard? #BlackHistoryMonth @NAACP @LincolnsCottage.'

Decker issued an apology after deleting the messages.

'Sometimes our best intentions go awry because we haven't listened enough or don't truly understand others' lived experience. My efforts to celebrate courageous African Americans this month fall in that category. I apologize to any and all who I may have offended or hurt.'

State Department spokesman Ned Price was asked about the remarks in a briefing Wednesday and said that her comments had not been cleared by the State Department to tweet.

Sometimes our best intentions go awry because we haven’t listened enough or don’t truly understand others’ lived experience. My efforts to celebrate courageous African Americans this month fall in that category. I apologize to any and all who I may have offended or hurt.

Doesn't add up Inside the mysterious suicides of two Las Vegas moms who accused cops of homicide cover-up

Two Las Vegas mothers including former Judge Melanie Andress-Tobiasson (above) committed suicide within five months of each other after crusading against corruption in that city.

February 16, 2023

Two mothers — one a former Las Vegas judge-turned-vigilante — committed suicide within five months of each other after they both spent years fighting the Las Vegas Metro Police Department over what they alleged was a cover-up of a still-unsolved double homicide tied to underage sex trafficking.

Judge Melanie Andress-Tobiasson, 55, who stepped down from the bench a year ago to avoid an ethics probe, killed herself Jan. 20 at her $2 million Vegas mansion. The Clark County coroner’s office said she died from a gunshot wound.

Andress-Tobiasson’s one-time friend Connie Land, 53, shot herself to death Aug. 10, 2022, at her Las Vegas home after crusading for six years for justice for her daughter.

Land’s daughter Sydney Land, 21, was murdered along with her 19-year-old boyfriend, Nehemiah “Neo” Kauffman, a reported pimp, in October 2016. The homicides remain unsolved.

A year before the murders, Andress-Tobiasson began tipping police off to what she claimed was underage sex trafficking in order to protect her own teenage daughter and others, according to her statements on podcasts and court documents.

But judicial officials said she overstepped her professional bounds when she began meddling in the murders of Land and Kauffman. Andress-Tobiasson believed that “Suga” Shane Valentine, the same man she claimed tried to lure her daughter into prostitution, had killed Land and Kauffman.

Valentine has been a person of interest in the Land and Kauffman murders twice but has never been charged in connection with them. The Post was unable to reach him.

The judge told the Baltimore Post Examiner she once went to Valentine’s house and kicked the door in. She also testified before the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline in December 2019 that she indirectly threatened Valentine because she wasn’t getting help from the police.

It’s not clear why Andress-Tobiasson and Land ended their lives, although both women were in the midst of getting divorces. Their families aren’t talking to the press.

“I can’t tell you how many times Melanie told me, ‘If I wind up dead, remember I wasn’t suicidal,'”Dana Gentry, a local blogger who knew Andress-Tobiasson, told The Post. “She was being followed, all sorts of things. She was unusual in the sense that she was willing to stand up for the truth even though she knew it might ruin her career.”

Andress-Tobiasson’s personal and professional decline began when her daughter, Sarah, then a 16-year-old student at a prestigious local Catholic school, began working at a clothing store, Top Knotch, in 2015. Sarah told her mother about the strippers and pimps there. (The store was shut down in 2016, after a murder in front of the place and after the owner, Marlon Brown, was arrested and sentenced to 45 years for shooting his ex-girlfriend.)

Andress-Tobiasson told Las Vegas cops that Top Knotch was allegedly a hub for sex trafficking and was an unlicensed, underage nightclub. She also told them that she was “terrified” of Valentine, who was among the characters hanging around the store.

“The first time I took the information to the police, I wasn’t so concerned because I figured within a week, the place would be shut down…,” Andress-Tobiasson said in a 2019 interview. “I subsequently learned that not only did the police know about this place when I first started giving them information, they knew about a lot of places like this, and they were kind of untouchable.”

Andress-Tobiasson and Land had become friends over their shared concern that Las Vegas police were turning a blind eye to local pimps and underage trafficking, and Valentine — the on-again, off-again person of interest in the murder of Land’s daughter — was let off the hook, possibly because he was a police informant.

Convicted felon Valentine has served time for burglaries and for shooting into the home of Kauffman’s mother just weeks before the murders of Land and Kauffman. He got out of prison in 2021 but was arrested again on charges of aggravated stalking in July 2022. In December 2022, he got a plea deal and pleaded guilty to attempted stalking and is currently out on electronic monitoring pending a March hearing.

NYT jumping off the Tranny wagon? The extreme left attacks the less extreme left, popcorn anons?

Has the NY Times finally woken up to woke? Editor says he will NOT 'tolerate' staff attacking colleagues over paper's trans coverage after letters slamming their work were signed by almost 200 people

On Wednesday, two letters were sent to The New York Times - one coordinated by GLAAD, one from NYT contributors - complaining about their trans coverage

They condemned 'irresponsible, biased coverage of transgender people': on Thursday, the NYT responded by publishing a story in defense of J.K. Rowling

The Rowling article was greeted with fury by the activists behind both letters: NYT editor Joe Kahn then responded, urging calm

February 16, 2023

Joe Kahn wrote to all staff on Thursday, telling them their criticism of each other was damaging and unacceptable.

The row began on Wednesday, when GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, coordinated a public letter signed by celebrities and activist groups condemning the paper's 'irresponsible, biased coverage of transgender people'.

They singled out the science team for particular condemnation, arguing they had set about 'undermining support for transgender youth by writing 'just asking questions' stories about medically approved best practices for gender-affirming healthcare'.

And they criticized the opinion desk for publishing articles by staff columnist Pamela Paul, insisting The New York Times was wrong to give 'space for her unfounded thoughts about how LGBTQ people should describe themselves'.

Another letter, also sent on Wednesday, was signed by 1,000 current and former contributors to the paper.

'We do not welcome, and will not tolerate, participation by Times journalists in protests organized by advocacy groups or attacks on colleagues on social media and other public forums,' Kahn wrote in is response to staff.

In response, on Thursday the paper published an op ed by Paul, defending the stance taken by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.

Rowling has been outspoken in her criticism of transgender issues.

Kahn then published his letter, urging calm.

'It is not unusual for outside groups to critique our coverage or to rally supporters to seek to influence our journalism,' Kahn wrote.

'In this case, however, members of our staff and contributors to The Times joined the effort.

'Their protest letter included direct attacks on several of our colleagues, singling them out by name.'

Kahn said the campaign was harmful to the paper.

'Participation in such a campaign is against the letter and spirit of our ethics policy,' he said.

'That policy prohibits our journalists from aligning themselves with advocacy groups and joining protest actions on matters of public policy.

'We also have a clear policy prohibiting Times journalists from attacking one another's journalism publicly or signaling their support for such attacks.'

Kahn defended the newspaper's coverage of transgender issues and people in his note on Thursday.

'Our coverage of transgender issues, including the specific pieces singled out for attack, is important, deeply reported, and sensitively written,' he said.

Paul, in her article, refers to the new 'The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling' podcast by Megan Phelps-Roper - a former member of the notorious Westboro Baptist Church - based on nine hours of interviews with Rowling which explore her views and the backlash faced by the author.

The op-ed states: 'As Rowling herself notes on the podcast, she's written books where from the very first page, bullying and authoritarian behavior is held to be one of the worst of human ills'.

'Those who accuse Rowling of punching down against her critics ignore the fact that she is sticking up for those who have silenced themselves to avoid the job loss, public vilification and threats to physical safety that other critics of recent gender orthodoxies have suffered.'
