My roommate was a Navajo medicine man. He'd get bags of it fresh. They also dry it and then make tea. It's also dried and ground into a powder and then they make a little paste and make little bite size pieces. It tastes like what I imagine eating an old, sweaty shoe would be like. The fresh ones taste pretty bad too. They taste very bitter BUT the medicine men say the yote chooses the student. I found out because for me, the buttons tasted sweet and I wanted mooooooar! I didn't throw up or anything. It's the tippy top. It was like smoking the best weed ever times 100. I'd just keep eating for days til I had to finally sleep. So many revelations that come from it. I call it the grandfather teacher. Ayahuasca doesn't sound like my type of thing though. I tripped acid almost every day for about 2 years in my early 20's. I'd go to school tripping. I love shrooms too. Idk. ayahuasca just doesn't sound like something I want to ty but maybe. Peyote, shrooms and the pots are my fave.
