>Money is about to be extinct

>Parallel economy or we die

>What skills do you have

Butcher. Food preservation. Surgical repairs wounds. Gardening. Re-loading. Animal husbandry.

I can't make a shovel or any garden tool or any tools from scratch.

I can't make gunpowder, or bulltets to hunt.

I know how to clean out a bullet wound, and sew it up, but I can't make surgical needles. I'm old enough to know how to use the old threaded OR needles, but finding them…

Don't know how to make a solar panel, or a battery, or a 1500W burner needed to home can food.

I don't know how to make eyeglasses.

I know how to make clothes, but don't know how to make material from either homegrown cotton, or sheep's wool.

I know how to butcher a rattlesnake for lunch, but I don't know how to tan the hide properly.

I know how to butcher other animals, but not how to tan the hide to use to make shoes, gloves, clothes.

My chickens know how to lay eggs, and I know how to figure out production costs, but I don't know how to make crates in order to sell the extra eggs to neighbors.

The only option seems to be to have had stockpiled in advance of money becoming extinct.

Neighbor raises lambs…. but doesn't need sutures or triple A

And I already have sutures and triple A…. but theoretically run out.

My other neighbor wants eggs, but I don't need anything he's got.

And therein lies the reason for…….. MONEY.

LOL…..

Finding IRL that are trustworthy to trade with in madmax times is whole 'nother issue.

i.e. a while back, candidate for local sheriff told me (stupid man) that the cops know who all the hunters are, and in madmax, they plan to steal all the hunters meat. and he doesn't think I told every prepper I know within 75 miles in each direction?

You are being a dick.

Anon has more survival skills than most because anon has spent 40 years learning them.

But anon really can't learn how to make steel in order to make a shovel, or steel to make an old fashioned surgical steel OR threaded needle like we used to use decades ago (before the prethreaded ones they invented, that this anon helped Ethicon totally redesign their suture packages when I was a kid.)

Because anon doesn't even live in an area where raw materials to make steel exist.

You missed the higher point I was trying to make.

One prepper I know makes knives….but he still has to purchase the metal for the blade for the same reason, he doesn't mine iron ore, etc. So if his source of metal dries up…. his skill in making knives is also gone.

Old anon here, didn't practice gardening with gas powered equipment, instead stockpiled shovels and does it all by hand, because anon decided fuel (and filters, etc) to run a garden equipment might be cut off by "them". I CAN make a replacement handle out of wood. But I can't make the steel blade from raw materials (iron ore) in a total madmax.

Does that clarify my post a bit more?

Get beans, not ground.

Forget using the vacpac type plastic shit for long term storage. Some kind of plastic leachy flavor gets into the food, and must allow some air exchange to occur, as food inside gets too dried out over time.

Metalic bags w/ O2 absorber ok.

Anon ground beans from 15 y.o. coffee this a/m. Still good.

Although I do have some ground coffee in canning jars/ vac sealed, I guess about 8 yrs old, also still good.

Been experimenting for decades on food preservation.

Who would miss bacon? 10 yr old bacon in home canning jars. Tastes great, but crumbles (no longer slices). No problem scrambled eggs w/bacon bits….

Another neighbor raises pigs…. and I know how to slaughter. But without going to the store to buy for instance "applewood" for smoking, and without having any suitable type smoking wood availalble for good flavor…. I'd miss bacon!

I checked NOAA wind direction map a few days ago. The "weather vane" over this week was going round and round in all directions.

It's still going round and round.

Check out the second data set in NOAA chart

There is gold in the mountain closest to me and I did meet a guy who knew where to find nuggets. Didn't have to dig. But he died. Met another guy, metalurgist type.

Actually, FYI, another topic. During Obama years, interior dept came out to all the old mines in the mountains all around here (many miles) and put "jail bars" up over all entrances (small and large). Many of us thought at the time they were trying to make it so people couldn't hide in them.

I do have friends that have the skills I don't have, just as I have skills/knowledge they doesn't.

What are the odds of mad max? I don't know. I felt it was high enough risk to take steps to "self-insure". And to network carefully with a few others with complimentary skillsets.

Self-insurance allows me to sleep very well at night, and not worry.

In the meantime, I'm fighting like hell against madmax, even though some days it sure feels like a waste of time.

I was so excited in the begining too. Paid bills, but abandoned other IRL stuff.

But that disappointment also got me more focused locally on going after corruption. Taking what has been learned here into real world.

Mountain man tanning hide?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJFft-BXQLQ

Ha, no wonder why I was having such a hard time removing the bits of flesh attached to the hide. I didn't have the right tool ! And didn't soak the hide overnight.

Thank anon for the tip.

Can't say I'm looking forward to slaughtering the next goat, but goat skin is really soft leather.

Putin explained some 10 years ago that they realized Russia can't compete w/US in nuclear arms race - it bankrupted their country. So instead they pursued developing less expensive, smarter weapons. Some were demonstrated in the quasi documentary.

Directed EMP was one of them, mounted on a vehicle. HInted about others that weren't shown.
