I grew up in Chicago.

My dad was a WW2 Navy vet.

He grew up in Grand Rapids, MI, but moved to Chicago after the war when he married my mom, who was born & raised in Chicago.

Anyways, my dad had this idea in his head that he wanted to open a Junk Yard.

He told me about it one day, when I was teenager. Then he told me that he couldn't open a junk yard in the Chicago area because the Jews owned all of the Junk Yards.

I thought that was kind of funny, because the only Jews that I actually knew at that time, were either doctors or lawyers.

Why would Jews want to own Junk Yards?

Early life

Croce was born January 10, 1943, (although some sources say 1942)[1][2] in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to James Albert Croce (1914–1972) and Flora Mary (Babusci) Croce (1913–2000), Italian Americans whose parents had immigrated from Trasacco and Balsorano in Abruzzo and Palermo in Sicily.

1960s

Croce married (Ingrid) Jacobson in 1966, and converted to Judaism, as his wife was Jewish. They were married in a traditional Jewish ceremony.[13] Croce enlisted in the Army National Guard in New Jersey that same year to avoid being drafted and deployed to Vietnam, and served on active duty for four months, leaving for duty a week after his honeymoon.[14] Croce, who was not good with authority, had to go through basic training twice.[15] He said he would be prepared if "there's ever a war where we have to defend ourselves with mops".
