Former Danish Defense Minister Facing Prison Time For Allegedly Revealing Massive US Spying Scheme

The former Defense Minister of Denmark is facing serious criminal charges for allegedly revealing an American scheme to spy on allied leaders.

Danish authorities said Tuesday the justice minister agreed to bring charges against an unnamed former lawmaker for revealing “secrets of importance to the state,” the Associated Press (AP) reported. Danish media then reported the suspect is Claus Hjort Frederiksen, a former defense minister, and Hjort Frederiksen confirmed the reports in a Facebook post.

“I have not revealed alleged state secrets. Period,” the 75-year-old who retired in 2022 posted. “This was not how I had dreamed my retirement would be.”

Prosecutor Jakob Berger Nielsen said the case would not be carried out publicly due to the sensitive nature of the information involved.

Hjort Frederiksen first alleged in 2020 that the Danish Defense Intelligence Service (DDIS) assisted America’s National Security Agency (NSA) in eavesdropping on numerous foreign leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, during the Obama administration. In a 2021 interview, he said he must “risk a prison sentence” to reveal the alleged spying scheme carried out by American and Danish officials.

The DDIS reportedly helped the NSA wiretap phone lines between 2012 and 2014, using political leaders’ phone numbers as search parameters. Other countries that were allegedly surveilled include Norway, Sweden and France.

Disinformation index collapses after targeting conservative media content

Among the "10 riskiest online news outlets," according to the index, are the New York Post, Reason, and the Daily Wire — all popular conservative/libertarian sites.

A State Department-backed group is severing its connections with a disinformation index group also backed by progressive megadonor George Soros following reports about the group's efforts to muzzle conservative media outlets by blacklisting them with advertisers.

The National Endowment for Democracy, a private foundation created by Congress whose funding is part of the State Department budget, said it will no longer provide grants to the Global Disinformation Index, according to The Washington Times.

"Recently, we became aware that one of our grantees, the Global Disinformation Index (GDI), was engaged in an initiative, funded by a different donor, that focused on specific U.S. media outlets," the NED told the newspaper Tuesday.

"We recognize the important work GDI has done with NED support in other countries … . However, given our commitment to avoid the perception that NED is engaged in any work domestically, directly or indirectly, we will no longer provide financial support to GDI."

The NED gave $250,000 in grants to the risk-ratings group to identify and combat disinformation in China and other authoritarian regimes.

The GDI's stated mission includes assessing "disinformation risk in media markets."

Critics say the group has sought to censor right-of-center voices with a bias-driven ratings system designed to sow distrust in media outlets that do not toe the progressive line.

At least one advertising company using GDI blocked advertising money from reaching conservative websites, according to the Washington Examiner.

Soros reportedly funded the index through the Open Society Foundations, his primary grant-making program.

The GDI last year rated the "10 riskiest online news outlets" as the New York Post, Reason, RealClearPolitics, Daily Wire, the Blaze, the Media Research Center, One America News Network, the American Conservative, the Federalist, Newsmax and Spectator — all popular conservative/libertarian sites.

20 Democrat Governors Form Alliance to Promote Abortion

Twenty Democrat governors are launching an alliance to promote ending the lives of unborn babies across the country, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), a radically pro-abortion leader who blasphemes to justify his position, is leading the effort entitled the “Reproductive Freedom Alliance.” Organizers of the efforts describe it “as a way for governors and their staffs to share best practices and affirm abortion rights for the approximately 170 million Americans who live in the consortium’s footprint — and even ensuring services for the remainder of U.S. residents who live in states with more restrictive laws.”

The alliance reportedly plans to share model statutory language and executive orders about how to further promote abortion in the United States, including protecting abortionists from prosecution, maximizing federal funding for “reproductive health care” and supporting abortion pill and contraceptive manufacturers “that face potential new restrictions from conservatives,” according to the report.

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) told the outlet the alliance is coming just as a federal court in Texas considers a challenge to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s approval of mifepristone, the first pill used in a two-drug medication abortion regimen. In a statement, Newsom called the alliance a “moral obligation” and a “firewall” to protect the supposed “fundamental right[s]” to end the lives of unborn babies.

“The group includes executives of heavily Democratic states like California, where voters overwhelmingly approve of abortion rights, but also involves every presidential battleground state led by a Democrat, including Govs. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Roy Cooper of North Carolina, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania and Tony Evers of Wisconsin,” according to the report, which noted that the alliance is getting its initial funding from the California Wellness Foundation and the Rosenberg Foundation.

Grisham added the alliance is unable to make national policy or impose policies across state lines, but said it provides the framework for communication. Governor’s offices in the alliance will also being working with pro-abortion advocacy groups.

Organizers said the alliance is nonpartisan, but no Republicans have joined.

“Still, Newsom aides said the group would welcome Republicans, though they declined to name any GOP executives that Newsom or other Democratic governors might be recruiting to the consortium. Indeed, a handful of Republican governors support abortion rights broadly,” according to the report.

The alliance includes the governors of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Mark Paoletta, former counsel to Vice President Mike Pence, leads work for conservative media group

Law firm Schaerr Jaffe is on team for Georgia in lawsuit DOJ filed over voting rights

Conservative activist group Project Veritas has hired a Washington, D.C., law firm to lobby for it on matters tied to an FBI search of its founder's home in New York, according to a lobbying disclosure form filed with a U.S. Senate public records office.

Project Veritas, which frequently produces video segments based on undercover operations, has said the U.S. Justice Department is investigating the group in connection with the reported theft of a diary from President Joe Biden's daughter Ashley.

Mark Paoletta, a partner at law firm Schaerr Jaffe since March and previous counsel to former Vice President Mike Pence, said on the lobbying disclosure form time-stamped late Saturday night that Schaerr Jaffe would inform "members of Congress on the FBI's raid on media organization Project Veritas founder, journalist James O'Keefe."

The FBI executed a search warrant on Nov. 6 at O'Keefe's residence and seized cell phones as part of a probe of conspiracy to transport stolen property across state lines, court filings show. The disclosure form said the advocacy began on Nov. 11.

A Manhattan federal judge on Tuesday declined to unseal the federal law enforcement affidavits underlying the search.

The federal lobbying disclosure was the first for Project Veritas, and it marked Paoletta's latest advocacy work on Capitol Hill. Paoletta, who earlier lobbied as a DLA Piper partner, did not return messages seeking comment on Tuesday. Messages left for Project Veritas and O'Keefe about the lobbying services were not immediately returned.

A Justice Department spokesperson did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

The lobbying comes as The New York Times is challenging a New York state judge's order blocking the Times from publishing certain materials about Project Veritas. The order came amid a defamation lawsuit Project Veritas filed against the Times last year over an article describing a video the group released alleging voter fraud in Minnesota.

Paoletta served as counsel to Pence at the start of the Trump administration and, in 2018, as general counsel to the Office of Management and Budget. He was a partner at DLA from 2012 to 2016 and provided legal services to clients including Samsung Electronics America Inc, Gilead Sciences Inc and Oracle Corp.

Schaerr Jaffe, a 15-lawyer firm, has pursued conservative causes since its beginning in 2014, when veteran U.S. Supreme Court advocate Gene Schaerr departed Winston & Strawn to open the firm.

In one recent case, Georgia hired Schaerr as a "special assistant attorney general" defending the state in a lawsuit the Justice Department filed in June over voting restrictions. He is billing the state at $425 hourly, according to a contract Reuters obtained.

Ukraine bans former president’s party

The Party of Regions was outlawed just a day after Joe Biden praised Kiev’s “democracy”

The party of former president Viktor Yanukovich, once Ukraine’s largest, was banned on Tuesday by a Kiev court acting on a government request. Ukraine’s security services had accused the Party of Regions of illegally signing a 2010 treaty with Russia and “crimes” against the 2014 US-backed coup that ousted Yanukovich.

Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) announced the ban to state media, saying it followed a motion by the Ministry of Justice based on accusations leveled by the SBI and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) against the party.

“In particular, the SBI provided materials regarding the illegal actions of the leadership of the Party of Regions during the signing and ratification of the so-called Kharkov Agreements, as well as crimes committed by them during the events of the Revolution of Dignity,” the agency said.

The 2010 agreement, signed in Kharkov, extended the Russian lease of naval facilities in Crimea through 2042 and gave Ukraine a discount on Russian natural gas supplies. The “Revolution of Dignity” is the name the new Ukrainian government gave the Maidan coup of 2014, which triggered the conflict over Crimea and the Donbass.

The Ukrainian government is “currently determining” the value of the party’s assets, which will be seized under a law enacted in May 2022. It enables President Vladimir Zelensky’s government to ban any party that challenges its official position, in particular when it comes to the conflict with Russia. A court’s decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

The law has been used to ban a dozen parties so far. The largest parliamentary opposition bloc, Opposition Platform – For Life, was outlawed last June.

The Party of Regions was established in 1997 and had grown into Ukraine’s biggest political party by 2006, in response to the 2004 ‘Orange Revolution’ that installed a pro-American government. It practically ceased to operate after the 2014 coup, as Yanukovich and Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov sought asylum in Russia.

The latest ban comes just a day after US President Joe Biden visited Kiev and compared Ukraine’s government to democracy itself. “Ukraine stands. Democracy stands. America – and the world – stands with Ukraine,” Biden declared after a photo-op with Zelensky.
