US embassy in London put in lockdown after security scare

 

he US embassy in London was briefly put into a state of lockdown on Wednesday morning with those inside told to duck and move away from windows.

 

There was a security alert after a report of a suspicious item that had been left in the vicinity, Metropolitan Police said, but it turned out to be a false alarm.

 

The incident has since been resolved.

Top Chinese diplomat meets Putin

China's top diplomat Wang Yi has met Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He said relations between Beijing and Moscow could not be influenced by other countries in remarks on Russian state TV.

Mr Putin said he was looking forward to a visit to Moscow by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

China has refused to criticise the invasion of Ukraine while condemning sanctions imposed on Russia.

In return, Russia has supported China amid tensions with the US over Taiwan.
