Mike Pence Seems to Think Being a Conservative Means Letting the Left Get Away With Everything

Robert Spencer

In this era of deep crisis and division in America, Mike Pence wants to be the Republican nominee for president of the United States in 2024, and he wants you to know that a Pence presidency (The Pencidency, you heard it here first) would be acomforting reassertion of the Republican Party’s familiar role as the placid, country-clubbing controlled opposition, never rocking the boat as the Leftsets the agenda politically, economically, culturally, and in every other way.

If you want solid, stolid, poker-faced, self-righteous impotence and me-tooism, Mike Pence is your man. Solid, stolid Pence reinforced that perception Wednesday when he called out Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) for being so un-conservative as to do something actually to resist the Left and stop it in its tracks. Good, solid, colorless Men of the Right such as Mike Pence just don’t do such things.

Pence began by defending DeSantis’ Parental Rights in Education bill, which endeavors to stop the grooming of children in primary schools. The former vice president declaredthat he “fully supported Florida’s initiative to protect kids and protect parental rights.” He even offered an example of why such a bill was needed: “I was just in Iowa last week where literally there’s a school — the Linn-Mar Community School — [that] will allow a student to get a gender transition plan without parental notification or approval.” That’s ghastly indeed, and it’s good to see Pence speaking out against it. But don’t take that to mean that once The Pencidency was up and running Gray Mike would do anything actually effective.

Pence went on to hit DeSantis for going too far: “I have concerns about the follow-on. Disney stepped into the fray; they lost. The idea of going after their taxing authority. That was beyond the scope of what I, as a conservative, a limited-government Republican, would be prepared to do.” Of course. As everyone knows, being a conservative, limited-government Republican means being a dutiful lapdog for the Left. It never, ever means taking on Leftist power centers such as Disney that are corrupting children on an industrial scale with woke propaganda. Oh, no. That would be Big Government Liberalism.

Pence is now the second Republican presidential hopeful to invoke conservatism in order to justify impotence and inaction in the face of the Left’s increasingly open lust to corrupt our children. On Sunday, former Maryland governor Larry Hogan, who also shares Pence’s fantasies about being the GOP nominee for president in 2024, brought up his alleged conservative credentials to explain his opposition to DeSantis.

Unlike Pence, Hogan came out entirely against the Parental Rights in Education bill but did so for reasons that Pence would find compelling: “I’m a small government, common sense conservative,” Hogan said, “and to me, it sounds like big government and authoritarian, ‘You have to agree with me, and I’ll tell you what you can and can’t do.’ But it’s an issue. It’s not the most important issue.

Pence and Hogan should understand, after all their years in government and especially in light of the Left’s increasing aggressiveness in the culture wars, that passively going along with the Left’s agenda because to do otherwise would somehow be a manifestation of “big government” is not the kind of conservativism that anyone wants.

There is nothing that stands in opposition to small-government principles in acting to protect children from sexualization and gender madness. There is nothing “big government” about acting to preserve parents’ rights to raise their own children without government bureaucrats using taxpayer money to erode those rights. There is nothing about preserving the principle of limited government in taking away special legal perks that alleged entertainers have received from the government once they start behaving as arrogant social engineers and forcing upon children an agenda that most parents find abhorrent.

Mike Pence is yesterday’s man. He stands for a bland conservatismthat allows the Left to take charge in all fields and never, ever rocks the boat. That supine behavior was never a good look for Republicans, and in the face of the conflicts in American society today, it should be decisively repudiated once and for all. Mike Pence should give up his quixotic presidential hopes and face reality. He doesn’t have enough presence or personality to become the kind-of conservative voice on CNN or MSNBC, but he’ll find work somewhere.

Russian lawmakers limit use of foreign words

New legislation seeks to protect “the norms of the modern formal language”

Russian senators have upheld a bill ordering all public and private entities to use only Russian words in their official communication. The legislation adopted on Wednesday by the parliament’s upper house – the Federation Council – states that the only exception is words that have no Russian equivalent.

“When the Russian language is used as the state language of the Russian Federation, any use of words and phrases that do not comply with the norms of the modern formal language is not allowed,” the bill says, adding that an exception is made “for foreign words that do not have commonly used equivalents in the Russian language and are included in the standard dictionary lists.”

The government will now have to review the standard dictionary list if the bill is passed into law by the president. Under the legislation, the use of language is considered to be “official” if it is used in the fields of education or in the state and municipal information systems, as well as by private entities when communicating with their business partners or clients.

According to the Interfax news agency, the bill’s authors argued that it would help increase the overall literacy level among citizens, as well as the correct use of the state language and ensure that all public servants have a sufficient command of modern formal Russian speech.

The State Duma adopted the legislation last week. The bill was reportedly designed to “protect” the Russian language from the excessive number of foreign words.

At the time, the head of the Duma’s Culture Committee, Elena Yampolskaya, blasted the advertising practice of placing phrases in English written in “giant capital letters” on ads while the Russian equivalent is barely visible.

She further insisted that special new rules should then be developed for the media, advertising and consumer information after the law is passed. Yampolskaya also called on fellow MPs to consider making the violation of norms on the use of state language an administrative offense.

EU fails to agree new Russia sanctions – Reuters

Negotiations on the tenth round of restrictions have been postponed to later this week, sources say

Karkov/Keystone Press Agency

European Union countries failed to agree on a new batch of sanctions against Moscow on Wednesday, four diplomatic sources told Reuters. The restrictions are reportedly meant to be in place for the one-year anniversary of the Ukraine conflict, on Friday.

“There are several issues outstanding, including on rubber and reporting obligations of Russian assets in Europe,” one of the anonymous sources explained.

More talks among the representatives of EU member states were due on Thursday afternoon, the sources claimed.

On Monday, the EU extended for another year an array of sanctions on Russia, imposed over the conflict in Ukraine. European Council President Charles Michel acknowledged earlier that debates on new penalties targeting Russia have become more challenging as the bloc has already imposed nearly every possible major sanction on the country and there are “not many things left” to do.

The proposed tenth package of EU sanctions on Russia will reportedly be worth €11 billion ($11.7 billion) and focus on stopping sales of high-tech goods that can be used in weapons systems.

The export blacklist will reportedly include electronics, lasers, radio equipment, software, avionics, marine cameras and rare-earth minerals, as well as other more specific components used in nanotechnology.

Brussels has so far adopted nine sanctions packages on Russia, targeting numerous sectors of the economy, as well as businessmen, politicians, and journalists.

The sanctions have only hurt the EU, they are the literal definition of insanity.

Brutal snowstorm grounds over 1,000 flights in US

Weather experts believe “it’s probably going to be one of the biggest storms of the winter”

A massive snowstorm engulfing the northern US has forced the cancellation of nearly 1,200 flights as of Wednesday, according to data from FlightAware, while iced-over highways have weather experts warning Americans not to drive either.

Midwestern airports have suffered the worst disruptions, with 48% of flights in and out of Minneapolis-St. Paul cancelled, 45% of stops at Milwaukee, and 20% of flights to and from Detroit. As of Wednesday afternoon, Minneapolis had received 5 inches (12.7cm) of snow, with another foot (30.5cm) or more predicted to land by Thursday morning.

The unusual pattern that is dropping high levels of snow in “one big storm” is rare enough that it might put this storm in the top five ever to hit the region, National Weather Service meteorologist Melissa Dye reported.

The snowfall will be accompanied by powerful winds, creating white-out conditions, while weather experts are warning grounded travelers to stay off the roads as well. National Weather Service meteorologist Frank Pereira warned that drivers faced “hazardous to impossible travel conditions” and should stay home unless absolutely necessary.

Ice storm warnings have been issued from northern Iowa to Michigan. In addition to rendering roads all but impassable, the storms can knock down trees and take out power lines.

“It’s probably going to be one of the biggest storms of the winter,” AccuWeather senior meteorologist Adam Douty predicted. However, he said, the southern US will have the opposite experience, with record high temperatures for this time of year: 81 degrees Fahrenheit (27 Celsius) in Washington and the upper 80s Fahrenheit (low 30s Celsius) from New Orleans to Florida.

Central California around San Francisco has been hit with a spate of blackouts ahead of its own winter storm system, leaving 135,000 homes and businesses served by the state’s troubled and wildfire-prone PG&E utility in the dark Tuesday night. Another 6,400 homes in San Diego using Sempra Energy lost power, while other utilities were affected to a lesser extent. Snow is expected across the state later this week, even in the south, which rarely sees it.

US governor blacklists major outlet over ‘blatant lie’

Florida’s Ron DeSantis says he will boycott NBC until the network starts telling the truth

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took an unusual step on Wednesday, informing NBC and MSNBC that he will ignore them until he receives an apology for being falsely accused of racism.

“There will be no consideration of anything related to NBC Universal or its affiliates until and at least Andrea Mitchell corrects the blatant lie she made about the governor… and NBC and its affiliates display a consistent track record of truthful reporting,” DeSantis’s press secretary, Bryan Griffin, said in a statement.

NBC and its affiliates also need to “display a consistent track record of truthful reporting,” Griffin added.

During an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, which aired on ‘MSNBC Reports’ last week, Mitchell claimed DeSantis “says that slavery and the aftermath of slavery should not be taught to Florida schoolchildren” and accused him of being ignorant of “Black history and the Black experience.”

Reacting to Mitchell’s interview, Griffin called it “shameful.”

“This question from [Mitchell] exemplifies everything wrong with corporate media. They're not accidentally terrible at their jobs – they're maliciously intent on deceiving people,” he tweeted on Friday. “[DeSantis] never said this, and Florida has extensive black history requirements.”

So far, according to the governor’s office, neither Mitchell nor her network have apologized or retracted the false claim.

First elected in 2018, after a term in US Congress, DeSantis gained prominence during the Covid-19 pandemic by pushing back on lockdowns and mandates and declaring Florida would be a free state and not a “biomedical security” one.

Since then, he has also sought to ban what he dubbed racial and gender indoctrination programs, drawing denunciations from Democrats. His parental rights bill banning the promotion of gender identity to preschoolers was denounced by Democrats as “Don’t Say Gay,” a label then picked up by most US media outlets.

Earlier this week, the National Public Radio criticized DeSantis for banning “gender-affirming” procedures, using an example of a 13-year-old who wanted puberty blockers. Speaking for the governor, Griffin denounced NPR as a “publicly funded propaganda machine” and said Florida refuses to “bow to a radical minority” and intends to “stand for protecting our children and protecting their innocence.”

Though DeSantis has not announced his intent to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, a faction within the party has argued for him as an alternative to former president Donald Trump. The Democrats’ biggest donor, George Soros, has voiced hope that a DeSantis-Trump split might destroy the Republican party.

Details of Clinton aide’s bizarre ‘suicide’ revealed

The police report from the scene of Mark Middleton’s death was only released nine months later due to legal challenges

Details of Clinton aide’s bizarre ‘suicide’ revealed

Top Clinton adviser Mark Middleton was found hanging by an electrical cord from a tree with his chest blown out by a shotgun blast last May, in an alleged suicide, but there was no gun found anywhere at the scene, according to a Perry County, Arkansas sheriff’s report made public by the Daily Mail on Tuesday.

Written by Perry County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Lawson, who said he was called to the Heifer Ranch in Perryville, Arkansas when an employee found Middleton’s vehicle abandoned on the grounds, the report reveals that a gun case and three boxes of 12 gauge buckshot were found in the black BMW SUV –but no gun.

While early reports of his death claimed the businessman hanged himself with the help of a “makeshift gallows,” lugging a table onto the farm owned by animal charity Heifer International some 30 miles from his house, the police report does not mention a table.

Instead, Lawson describes glimpsing “what at first appeared to be a man sitting near a tree,” which gradually resolved to include “a rope of some type going from the tree limb to the male.” The “rope” was determined to be an extension cord.

Sheriff Scott Montgomery admitted at the time he had no idea why Middleton would have “picked that location to commit suicide,” telling Radar Online that “to our knowledge, he had never been there before.” Nor did the businessman leave a suicide note, Montgomery said.

Still, the sheriff initially stated the cause of death was suicide. “He found a tree and he pulled a table over there, and he got on that table, and he took an extension cord and put it around a limb, put it around his neck and he shot himself in the chest with a shotgun.”

Middleton’s family also insists he killed himself, arguing he was suffering from depression. They successfully sued to stop the release of photos depicting the scene of death.

However, one former business associate told Radar Online it was “physically impossible for Mark to have killed himself,” insisting “He knows nothing about guns! He hated guns; he couldn’t have tied a noose to save his life.”

Middleton is known to have signed sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein into the Clinton White House on at least seven of the 17 occasions he was known to have visited, and also flew on the pedophile’s ‘Lolita Express’ private plane.

Top politician calls on Scholz to ‘stop’ German foreign minister

Annalena Baerbock is talking herself into a “war frenzy” and might become a “security risk,” the head of Bavaria has warned

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz must “stop” Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock before she becomes a “security risk” and pushes Berlin towards a conflict with Moscow with her “thoughtless statements,” Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Soeder said on Wednesday during a German political festival.

The foreign minister and her party – Alliance 90/The Greens – are talking themselves into a “war frenzy” amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Soeder told a crowd of cheering supporters during what is known in Germany as Political Ash Wednesday. Having originated in Bavaria, the 100-year old event allows German politicians vent and pull no punches about the perceived shortcomings of their political rivals.

Soeder referred in particular to when Baerbock told the European Council back in January that the EU was “fighting a war against Russia,” words that sparked uproar at the time. In mid-February, Baerbock herself conceded that the remark was a mistake.

“A foreign minister has to be careful what she says,” Soeder warned during the event in Bavaria’s Passau, adding that “an escalation of words can quickly lead to the escalation of violence.” Germany is helping Ukraine but is not at war with Russia, he maintained.

“Mr. Scholz, finally stop Ms. Baerbock,” Soeder said, adding the foreign minister’s “thoughtless statements” are often “to the detriment of our country.”

Baerbock has emerged as one of the most hardline supporters of Kiev in the German government, repeatedly arguing for increased military aid to Ukraine and criticizing Chancellor Olaf Scholz for supposedly not doing enough. She has also supported tougher sanctions against Russia and opposed any compromises with Moscow.

In October 2022, she said that any concessions to Russia in the ongoing conflict would be “naïve.” The minister also maintained that the West should not settle for any peace agreement that would result in Ukraine losing to Russia any territory that it recognizes as Kiev’s.

Soeder, who has been a prominent figure in the German opposition, previously criticized Berlin for prioritizing military aid to Ukraine over the nation’s own security. In particular, he argued that Germany should not have sent IRIS-T air defense systems to Ukraine and should have instead used them to enhance its own national defense.

Ex-Soviet state wants Russian peacekeepers to leave

Ukrainian troops were spotted near Transnistria as Moldova againraised “reintegrating” the breakaway region

Troops and weapons “illegally” present in Transnistria need to be evacuated to Russia as part of a “peaceful resolution” of the Ukraine conflict, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean told reporters on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Ukrainian troops were spotted approaching the breakaway region and its vast stores of weapons and ammunition.

Recean took office last week, after his predecessor resigned, citing a lack of popular support. He has since brought up Transnistria on at least two occasions since assuming office. He has previously argued for “demilitarization” of the region, so its residents can be “economically and socially reintegrated” into Moldova.

The territory on the left bank of the Dniester River, known as Transnistria, broke away from Moldova in the early 1990s. The mainly Russian-speaking population did not want to remain a minority in the Romanian-speaking former Soviet republic after it gained independence. It is estimated that half of Transnistria’s 500,000 residents now have Russian citizenship.

About 1,100 Russian troops are currently deployed to the breakaway region as peacekeepers, keeping an eye on the ceasefire reached in the summer of 1992, as well as the warehouses of weapons and ammunition left over from the Soviet Union.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has claimed that Moscow is preparing to overthrow the government in Moldova. He told German outlet Die Welt that Russian paratroopers might storm the country’s only airport in the capital, Chisinau, and that Ukraine was willing to “help” if this happens.

Asked about this on Tuesday, Recean told state TV that there are “several scenarios of destabilization” and that the airport attack is one of them, but that Moldova is “ready to face such a challenge.” Later in the day, a convoy of Ukrainian troops and armored vehicles was photographed moving towards the border with Transnistria.

Meanwhile, Moldovan President Maia Sandu was in Poland, where she met with US President Joe Biden. In a speech delivered in Warsaw, Biden praised the “freedom-loving people of Moldova” and pledged support for the country’s “sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov saidearlier this month that the US and its allies were trying to make Moldova into another anti-Russian bastion along the lines of Ukraine, suggesting Sandu came to power “through some very peculiar methods” and was willing to do anything to be annexed by Romania. The EU granted both Moldova and Ukraine candidate status last year, as a symbolic gesture against Moscow.

Interesting, she’s getting nuts.

When EU countries try to tamp down war talk, means quite a few don’t want it. None of those countries are prepared for war with Russia, all of them have admitted they dont even have enough arms, tanks or jets. So are they expecting the US to fight a war with Russia. Putin suspending the “new start treaty” (?) means Russia is expecting war and they will use nuclear tactical weapons.

Damn It! Trump needs to be back now, two more years is bullshit
