Reporter: Before you sent your first tweet, expressing concern for the residents of East Palestine, a week and a half after the accident happened..in hindsight, was that waiting too long to express anything, hours after you addressed the makeup of work crews on highway projects just that very day?

Buttigieg [East Palestine press conference]: Yes. I felt strongly about this, and could have expressed that sooner.

Buttigieg: Norfolk Southern, and the other freight rail companies, need to stop fighting us every time we try to do a regulation…what we've seen is industry goes to Washington and they get their way. They got their way on the ECP Rule. They got their way on a Christmas tree of regulatory changes that the last administration made on it's way out the door in December of 2020.

Buttigieg: The railroad industry wants to be able to have one person [engineer] on trains- could be a mile long or longer…there was movement to do something about that; the last administration froze it.

Jen-Pierre: Instead of following in the footsteps of so many other states, taking common sense action to enact state-level assault weapons bans…republican state officials in Florida are currently leading an effort to pass a permitless, concealed carry law. Which would eliminate the need to get a license to carry a concealed weapon. This is the opposite of common sense gun safety.

Jen-Pierre: The United States will implement sweeping sanctions against key sectors that generate revenue for Putin, go after more Russian banks, Russia's defense and technology industry, and actors in third-party countries that are attempting to backfill and evade our sanctions.

Jen-Pierre: As you all saw just an hour or so ago, President Obama announced that…pardon me, [Biden]…announced that the United States is nominating Ajay Banga to be president of the World Bank.

Reporter: The mayor of East Palestine said it was a slap in the face that [Biden] had gone to Ukraine before he went to East Palestine. Does [Biden] have any reaction to those comments?

Jean-Pierre: I laid out what we have done since the derailment…we believe we have had an all-of-government, all-hands-on approach to this….[Biden] has stayed updated on this…while he was in Poland he spoke to the important folks on the ground, the leadership on the ground.

Jean-Pierre: The trip [Biden] took to Kiev was historic, it was brave. Many of you talked about how we heard the sirens wailing in the background as [Biden] was on the ground.

[the 'sirens' were only sounded to make Biden appear to be 'facing danger'; they were for show]

Jean-Pierre: I want to take the opportunity to lay how diverse [Biden's] cabinet has been. The cabinet is majority people of color for the first time in history. The cabinet is majority female for the first time in history. A majority of White House senior staff identify' as female. Forty percent of White House senior staff identify as part of racially diverse communities. And a record seven assistants to the president are openly LGBTQ+.

Reporter: You can't say [Biden] has plans to go to [East Palestine] now, but is it in discussion that [Biden] may go there in the near future?

Jean-Pierre: I just don't have anything to share.

Reporter: Is it even under consideration?

Jean-Pierre: I think what folks should understand, and folks should, I think feel at ease, is that [Biden] has taken this very seriously.

Reporter: Was 'Secretary Pete' there at [Biden's] direction?

Jean-Pierre: 'Secretary Pete' went because he believed it was important for him to go there at this time….there's been a lot of bad-faith attacks on Secretary Buttigieg….it is pure politics; pure political stunts what they're doing.

Jean-Pierre : Showing up is having the Environmental Protection Administration on the ground. Showing up is having the DOT Secretary on the ground…
