U.S. government got $400 million in vaccine royalties from Moderna, company says

In addition to the $400 million payment to NIAID, Moderna will "pay low single-digit royalties on future net sales of our COVID-19 vaccines," according to Moderna CFO Jamey Mock.

Pharmaceutical company Moderna indicated this week that it had sent the U.S. government a "catch-up" payment of $400 million in connection with a patent dispute.

The company concluded an agreement with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in December of last year, establishing "a nonexclusive patent license agreement" allowing the company to use disputed technologies in its production of the COVID-19 vaccine, the Epoch Times reported.

In addition to the $400 million payment to NIAID, Moderna will "pay low single-digit royalties on future net sales of our COVID-19 vaccines," according to Moderna CFO Jamey Mock.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), NIAID's parent organization, had contended that Moderna wrongly omitted government researchers from a patent filing involving one of the vaccine's key sequences.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, in 2021, identified the sequence as a key component in successful vaccines, saying "[t]he work of [government researchers] Dr. Barney Graham and Kizzmekia Corbett and others stabilized the prefusion spike protein which is used in virtually all, with few exceptions, of the vaccines that are now successful," the Times noted.

A government official previously told the outlet that an NIH review had determined that the researchers had co-invented the sequence.

‘Dances With Wolves’ actor Nathan Chasing Horse hit with kidnapping, drug trafficking charges

A grand jury in Nevada on Wednesday indicted the 46-year-old alleged cult leader on 19 counts, adding charges of kidnapping, lewdness and drug trafficking to previous charges of sexual assault, trafficking and child abuse.

Chasing Horse — who is known for his role as Smiles A Lot in Kevin Costner’s Oscar-winning 1990 movie — now faces charges in Nevada, Canada and on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Montana.

The apparent leader of “The Circle” used his position as a “medicine man” who could communicate with spirits to gain followers.

Since the early 2000s, he has used his influence to sexually and physically abuse young girls and women across multiple states and Canada, investigators said.

He has been in Las Vegas police custody on $300,000 bail since Jan. 31, when he was arrested by SWAT officers near the North Las Vegas home he shared with his five wives.

Authorities have accused the former child actor of filming himself sexually assaulting a child, keeping journal entries detailing the abuse and training his wives to use guns and “suicide pills” in case police ever tried to “break their family apart.”

Chasing Horse, who was born on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota, will be asked to enter a plea on March 1 in Clark County District Court.

Kristy Holston, Chasing Horse’s public defender, told the Associated Press she plans to reveal holes in the state’s case against the former actor during a preliminary hearing that was canceled Wednesday ahead of the indictment.

She declined to elaborate on what those holes were.

“Since the public is so interested in this case and because only select details of the accusations have been released, we think it would be most appropriate for the State to present their evidence in a public hearing where the defense can reveal the weaknesses of the State’s case on the record in court,” she said in an email.

Following his arrest, authorities found firearms, psilocybin mushrooms, 41 pounds of marijuana and two cellphones containing videos and photos of underage girls being sexually assaulted in his home, according to an arrest report.

The footage of the assaults led to federal child pornography charges in US District Court in Nevada.

Ex-FBI Agent Who Destroyed Evidence In Case Against GOP Lawmaker Avoids Jail

Months after the raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, the FBI has suffered another public relation hit. A former FBI agent pleaded guilty late last year to allegations that he purposely destroyed evidence to frame a pro-Trump state lawmaker in Arkansas.

The guilty plea was part of a bargain between prosecutors and the former agent Robert Cessario, who was charged with “corrupt destruction of record in an official proceeding” in connection to the corruption trial of former state Sen. Jon Woods of Springdale.

A federal judge sentenced Cessario to three years of probation for destroying evidence in the corruption case that sent three men to federal prison.

“Cessario must spend the first six months of probation in home detention, although no electronic monitoring will be required, according to U.S. District Judge P.K. Holmes. Holmes also ordered Cessario to pay a $25,000 fine. Cessario’s presentencing report says federal guidelines would require at least five months in prison. The crime Cessario admitted to — corrupt destruction of an object in an official proceeding — carries a minimum recommended sentence of 10 months in prison,” Arkansas Online reported.

“The sentence can be mitigated by cooperation, according to federal guidelines. The federal sentencing report notes Cessario acknowledged his crime, accepted a plea, and has no prior criminal history. He served in the FBI for 17 years, according to statements by Alan Jackson, the government’s attorney in the case. Defense attorney John Everett of Farmington told Holmes that Cessario’s conviction renders his client unemployable in any kind of law enforcement or security capacity,” the outlet added.

In his plea deal, Cessario stated: “I erased the contents of the computer hard knowing that the court has ordered that the computer be submitted for a forensic examination. I did so with the intention of making the contents of the computer’s hard unavailable for forensic examination. At the time, I knew that the contents of the hard drive were relevant to an official proceeding, that is, Cause No. 5:17-CR-50010, United States v. Woods et al. I corruptly performed and had performed, the erasures with intent to impair the integrity and availability of the computer hard drive and its contents for use in that official proceeding.”

“Cessario’s charges stem from his role in the corruption trial of Woods who was convicted of mail fraud and 14 counts of wire fraud in 2018,” the outlet reported. “Woods was convicted of steering state funds to Ecclesia College in Springdale in exchange for kickbacks.”

Woods also endorsed Trump in 2016, reports noted.

Pfizer Denies Unethical Gain-of-Function Research for Coronavirus Vaccines in Letter to Rep. Ronny Jackson

Pfizer denied conducting gain-of-function research for the coronavirus virus in a letter to Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), Breitbart News has learned exclusively.

Jackson, a physician and a member of the Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, sent a letter in January, which was exclusively obtained by Breitbart News’s Hannah Bleau, demanding answers on if Pfizer engaged in gain-of-function research by intentionally mutating the Chinese coronavirus.

Pfizer responded to Jackson on February 23 with a letter signed by their vice president & COO of vaccine research, which was obtained by Breitbart News.

In the letter, Pfizer strongly denied that the company would engage in gain-of-function research.

“To be clear, we do not, and never would, engage in research to create or adapt viruses with the intention of making them more contagious or harmful to people,” Pfizer stated.

“In the ongoing development of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, Pfizer has not conducted gain-of-function research with SARS-CoV-2 for any potential use in humans, laboratory animals or to use as a vaccine,” the pharmaceutical stated.

Pfizer explained that when a new coronavirus variant emerges, Pfizer studies changes in its spike protein to understand whether the company would need to update its vaccine.

He explained:

We do this by adapting the virus in a highly secure lab so that the spike protein matches the newly identified circulating variants. This is done to mimic viruses that are already circulating in nature. This type of work is scientific best practice and is commonly conducted by other companies, institutions and public health authorities. It is necessary both for assessing the effectiveness of existing vaccines and new vaccine candidates targeted at currently circulating variants.

The representative also said that the pharmaceutical giant also evaluates variants for the effectiveness of its coronavirus oral treatment, or Paxlovid:

As we have previously indicated, we then isolate the new viruses from these studies, or adapt viruses with targeted changes in the main protease, and test to see whether Paxlovid is still effective. All of this work is done in highly secure laboratories, and we have not studied these adapted COVID-19 viruses in animals.
