Because it provides a justification for members of their audience to cope. Some of the morans who imbibe their effluent believe, because they were told so by an authority at some point, that pots is bad for you, mmmmk. And so, when these intellectual archetypes start seeing other members of their ilk dropping dead around them, they'll have a target for the blame.
That's why they're throwing so much out there: showers, gas ovens, vigorous exercise, eating meat, going outdoors, climate change, etc. It's so that the morans, who are already conditioned to think negatively about these things, will not go looking for something else that could be the cause.
They're desperate for something to stick.

I just moved to a small town in red-state America, and all the locals have this attitude. But they all breathed a sigh of relief when I broke out the MAGA flags and started complaining about all the liberals in my old town. And I've noticed that this is a trend. All the new people in town are super-MAGA compared to the general populace, and the small town's demographics are shifting quickly.
The liberals are getting old and dying. All the home purchases are being made by conservative, working families. And we all homeschool.
