Destiny worker: Everyone started screaming to get down, run. Shots reported fired at Syracuse mall

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse police are investigating a shooting reported at Destiny USA mall in Syracuse on Friday afternoon.

The police asked via Twitter at 4:22 p.m. for everyone at the mall to shelter in place.

The shooting was reported near Cinnabon, police said.

People started screaming to get down, said Christopher Perez, who works in the Cheesedake Factory.

People started to run into the restaurant to get away, he said. Everyone was told to move to the back of the resaurant for safety, he said.

Cinnabon is located on the first floor of the mall next to Old Navy.

About the need to be gentle … with all and with ourselves. We did some scary things but we did them together. We ziplined over Niagara Falls and August got stuck 🫠. We talked about flexibility and the need to always have an open heart and an open mind. We also talked about how joy and fun can and must still exist, even when someone we love is in pain. And tomorrow? Who knows. Will try all over again.
