I can certainly see how that would be demoralizing.

But I read it as a life well lived.

I'm in my early thirties and I drink, smoke, eat fast food, no exercise, body full of tattoos, etc. etc.

I know that when I get "old" I'll get the consequences of that - but I still do these things because I'll rather live now and have the memories than not having done these things and have the regret.
