What is it with John Mearsheimer? That is not the way it went down and Mearsheimer knows it. There was a coup beginning in late 2013 in Ukraine. I watched a video (removed now) of a member of the Rada speaking on the Rada floor in late November 2013 saying: we are setting up a civil war. We are sending armor to the East to make war on our Ukrainian brothers and sisters. Other members of the Rada shouted him down. I saw Ukrainians (of Russian decent) stopping tanks and asking the drivers what are they doing. This was in Jan. 2014. Then there was the snipers on the Maidan who randomly killed 100 (the Nuland's call them the 'divine 100') and at the same time bands of Bandera worshipers (Nazi's) went to Odessa. Watched a video clip of it. Political opponents against the coup (they didn't know it was a coup) had a booth and were supporting the current government, handing out printed fliers. The Bandera goons attacked them. The government supporters fled into a large building and the goons set fire to it. Burned alive sever hundred people. Yes, you can't find that video today.
Then the goons headed to Crimea. They got on the train. The citizens of Crimea did 2 things: 1. They knocked down a Russian military gate and demanded help, after making their demands they said they will fix the gate. It was on a video, also gone now. and 2. Crimean citizens came to the train station in Simferopol 1000's strong with whatever weapons they could find, hammers, axes and clubs. The Kiev goons got wind of it and disembarked the train at the last station before entering Crimea.
It was then that Putin made a phone call to Crimea and demanded a 24 hour poll: what do the Crimeans want, stay with Ukraine of return to Russia. He got the result the following day, it was overwhelming. He did send a few, less than 5, high ranked military officers to the Navy Base in Savastopol and called for a meeting with the Ukrainian Navy who shared the base. The Russian officers told the Ukrainian officers what was coming down and gave them a choice. The Ukrainian sailors at Sevastopol could switch sides and become Russians like the Crimean population was or they would be guaranteed safe & protected travel out of Crimea into Ukraine. 80% of Ukrainian sailors became Russian sailors in a day. Then the Crimeans had a referendum and 97+% voted to join Russia. Even the Tartars.

Talked to a young square jawed reserve soldier a few years back, car problems and had to pull into a restaurant parking lot, he walked over to me to help. We got to talking, figured I could let it cool off and make it to the shop less than a half mile away. I changed the subject: Are you military I said.
We talked for at least 10 minutes. He was and he was called up, heading out the next morning to E. Europe. We started talking about missions. He said: we don't want to fight the Russians. I said don't worry, Russia and Americans have always fought together. He relaxed, and as we we were parting I asked: Soldier, what mission are you looking forward to? He quickly answered: to clean the riff-raff out of our country. I said: I believe you will get that mission one day.

Yep, Kix Brooks & Ronnie Dunn. They may go down as the best duo in country history. They on the top now. Kix had the music inside him, he wrote most of their songs.
