Nord Stream blasts harmed Baltic wildlife – scientists

Researchers say the pipeline explosions stirred up chemical waste and threaten cod and porpoise populations

The destruction of Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines did not just cut off the flow of Russian natural gas to western Europe,it killed and poisoned the already endangered fish and marine mammal species in the Baltic Sea, says a new report by Danish, Polish and German scientists.

Two pipes of Nord Stream 1 and one pipe of Nord Stream 2 were blown up in late September 2022, in what Moscow has called an act of international terrorism. The “four explosions” stirred up the surrounding seabed, including the area previously used to dump toxic waste, according to a study conducted by the Aarhus University in Denmark.

“This could mean that fish that have been exposed to substances [such as lead and TBT] will become ill. There are some of them who will die, and there are some of them who will have difficulty reproducing,” Hans Sanderson from the Department of Environmental Science at Aarhus told the Copenhagen Post on Monday.

The researchers estimated that a quarter million tons of contaminated seabed, an area “twice the size” of the island of Bornholm, may have been stirred up by the explosions. This has threatened the Baltic Sea cod and porpoise populations, which have breeding grounds nearby.

Explosions may have deafened all porpoises within 50 kilometers of the blasts, while those within 4 kilometers were “probably killed,” the researchers said.

“It really was in the worst imaginable place. It is a tragedy that this has happened right here, where nature is already completely on its knees,” Bo Oksnebjerg of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) told the Post. He urged the Danish and Swedish governments to come up with a “sea plan” to safeguard the Baltic from future incidents.

Denmark’s Environment Minister Magnus Heunicke promised that the government would “continuously monitor and share the information with our neighboring countries around the Baltic Sea, so that we have an overall picture of the consequences and can follow up to the relevant extent.”

Denmark, Sweden and Germany have refused to release any information about their investigations into the Nord Stream sabotage, despite Russia’s repeated requests. Last week Moscow asked the UN to open a probe into the act of international terrorism.

Earlier this month, American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh published an article blaming the US and Norway for blowing up the pipelines. While the US government brushed off his claims as “completely false,” President Joe Biden had threatened Nord Stream 2 last January and multiple State Department officials spoke approvingly about its destruction.

(Maybe if wildlife is harmed they’ll care that they blew up pipelines, because they don’t care that it gave heat, gas and the ability of humans to live and eat)

Russia's 2014 invasion of Crimea - a short history

Putin’s Gamble: Crimea Invasion is a comprehensive look back to March 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea. The show will air on Sky HISTORY on 15 April at 9pm and on catch-up services. Here's everything you need to know about the events of 2014.

History of Crimea

The Crimean Peninsula sits atop the Black Sea and is home to approximately 2.5 million people. Crimea first became part of the Russian Empire in 1768. Catherine the Great, the Empress of Russia, sent her armies to occupy the region in an attempt to expand her country’s influence in the East. Less than a century later, the Ottoman Empire and its Western allies defeated Russia in the Crimean War and the latter’s military presence in the peninsula was severely reduced.

The Russian Civil War was fought from 1917 to 1921, during which Crimea changed hands several times between the White Army and Red Army. Upon the conclusion of the conflict and the Bolshevik’s victory, Crimea became part of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic which was later absorbed by the Soviet Union. It remained within the Soviet Union’s power until 1954, when Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev gifted Crimea to Ukraine as part of his de-Stalinization programme. The deal was made under the pretence that Crimea would forever remain a part of the Soviet Union, but issues began to arise when the communist state dissolved in 1991.

Why did Russia annexe Crimea

When the Soviet Union broke up, Ukraine held a significant number of nuclear weapons. In fact, the country had more nuclear warheads than China, the UK and France combined, making it the third-largest nuclear power in the world. Three years later, Ukraine reached an agreement with Russia and the US to hand over its nuclear weapons to be destroyed. In return, Russia promised to forever recognise the independence of the whole of Ukraine, including Crimea.

Vladimir Putin began his first term as prime minister in 1999 and brought with him very different ideas about his country’s relationship with Ukraine. He initially flirted with the idea of joining NATO but eventually decided to focus on reasserting Russia’s standing within the world.

Meanwhile, Russian-backed Viktor Yanukovych was facing mounting pressure as the President of Ukraine for failing to sign the Ukraine-EU agreement in November 2013. The autonomous Crimean parliament supported Yanukovych while the rest of the country opposed him.

An audacious military coup

On 22 February 2014, Yanukovych fled for the safety of Putin’s Russia. On the pretext of rescuing his ally, Putin ordered Russian Special Forces into Crimea and began an audacious military coup.

International condemnation

William Hague, the Foreign Secretary of the time condemned the annexation saying, ‘This action is a potentially grave threat to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. We condemn any act of aggression against Ukraine’.

The United States and the European Union threatened and later enacted sanctions against Russia for its role in the crisis, and urged Russia to withdraw. During the 2014 Winter Paralympics held in the Russian resort of Sochi, the United States refused to send a Presidential delegation. David Cameron and Angela Merkel also refuse to attend though all three countries send teams to compete.

On 24 March 2014, the G7 members cancelled the planned G8 summit that was to be held in June of that year in the Russian city of Sochi and suspended Russia's membership with the group.

The aftermath

On 16 March 2014, a referendum was held with 2 options on the ballot. The first asked the local population if they wanted to join the Russian referendum as a Federal Subject. The second option asked if Crimeans wanted to restore the 1992 constitution and Ukraine's status as part of Russia.95.5% of voters in Crimea voted in favour of joining Russia. The vote was condemned by the EU as ‘illegal and illegitimate and its outcome will not be recognised’. A 2014 resolution by the UN recognises the territorial integrity of Ukraine, rejecting the results of the referendum, as being illegitimate.

Russia formally incorporated Crimea as the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol on 18 March 2014. Following the annexation,

Fact sheet

• Crimea was transferred to Ukraine on 19 February 1954.

• Ukraine gained its independence with the dissolution of the Soviet Union on 26 December 1991.

Russia invaded Crimea on 20 February 2014, officially marking the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian War.

• The 2014 Crimean referendum is regarded by the UN as illegal because the whole of Ukraine is required to vote and both options on the ballot would have resulted in a separation from Ukraine.

EU nation backs Chinese peace plan

The ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kiev is bad for both Russia and Ukraine, as well as “the whole world,” Budapest believes

Hungary’s government supports Beijing’s peace plan for the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Prime Minister Viktor Orban told parliament on Monday. The 12-point plan released by China last week calls for resuming peace talks and respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations while condemning unilateral sanctions.

“We also consider China’s peace plan important and support it,” Orban told the lawmakers. In his half-hour-long speech, Orban insisted that the ongoing conflict was “bad for Ukrainians, Russians, Hungarians, Europe, and it is becoming increasingly clear [that] it is bad for the whole world.” The prime minister then maintained that Budapest should stay out of the conflict, as was decided through a “national consultation.”

The prime minister also criticized some opposition parties for being seemingly overzealous in their support for Kiev to the point where they barely “differentiated” between Ukraine and Hungary, but said that he agreed there should be a country between Russia and Hungary. “We respect the Ukrainians, we help the Ukrainians,” Orban said, adding, however, that “the interests of Ukraine can never precede the interests of Hungary.”

He also admitted that Ukraine was likely to eventually join NATO “sooner or later”while arguing that the bloc’s further expansion to the east “must be reconsidered ten thousand times.”

At the same time, Orban supported the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO. He also described the military bloc as a guarantor of security, while admitting that he was not enthusiastic about everything that happens within NATO.

Meanwhile, Kiev’s backers in the West have brushed off Beijing’s proposals. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that China didn’t “have much credibility” in this issue as it refused to condemn Russia’s actions and join the Western sanctions.

Moscow earlier welcomed Chinese efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict through peaceful means. Last Sunday, the Kremlin said, however, that it saw no opportunity for a political resolution of the conflict at the moment.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky recently maintained that there was “nothing to talk about” with Russia and “no one” in Moscow Kiev could talk to. His words came amid reported attempts by his Western backers, including France, Germany and the UK, to encourage Ukraine to engage in talks with Russia.

“Security Risk Senators: Part 1 from Arizona to Massachusetts” and 2nd book “Security Risk Senators: Part 2 from Michigan to Wisconsin

1/3

Description

Did you know that U.S. Senators need no background checks to do their jobs? This makes the most powerful legislators in the world ripe targets for hostile foreign intelligence services and domestic subversive organizations.

Security Risk Senatorsprofiles thirty currently-serving U.S. Senators, exposing their ties to anti-American elements both foreign and domestic. You will never look at your political leaders the same way again

Trevor Loudon to continue his work. His KeyWiki Internet encyclopedia brings everything we know about the communist conspiracy up to date, even with “Weekly Profiles” of communists, socialists and subversives. In addition, he records films for Epoch TV and publishes books on the latest scandals, including Security Risk Senators, Parts One and Two.

With Democratic Party control of the Senate, these last two books have to be read in detail and understood. His Epoch TV video, “US Senate Has Been Deeply Infiltrated by Enemies Foreign and Domestic,” summarizes his new books.

It’s impossible in this one column to summarize the evidence of treason and betrayal Trevor documents in these volumes. He analyzes the backgrounds and records of dozens of Senators.

It’s the epilogue that offers solutions, including a new security agency for the United States and establishing a public register of subversive organizations.

Practically speaking, before these proposals are implemented, we need a House of Representatives in the firm hands of a conservative majority dedicated to restoring a committee to monitor internal security. However, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who is running for speaker, purged Rep. Steve King from the Congressafter he spoke publicly in favor of saving Western civilization. King had also been vocal in supporting establishment of a House Committee on Un-American Activities.

This proposal harkens back to the time when the security of the United States was taken seriously. Herb Romerstein worked for the House Committee on Un-American Activities, the House Internal Security Committee and the House Intelligence Committee. He also headed the Office to Counter Soviet Disinformation and Active Measures of the United States Information Agency.

Except for the House Intelligence Committee, these committees and offices are either now defunct or under Democratic Party control. The House Intelligence Committee will now be under Republican leadership. Rep. Mike Turner (Ohio), the likely new chairman, can make a difference by bringing back oversight of the communist networks linked to China and Russia.

On the Senate side, consider that in 2004 the Senate voted unanimously voted to recognize the “loyal service” of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the scientific director of the World War II Manhattan Project that produced the atomic bomb. But the overwhelming evidence shows that Oppenheimer was a communist.

Romerstein, co-author of a book on Soviet espionage, The Venona Secrets, told me at the time, “There isn’t any question that Oppenheimer was a traitor to the United States and doesn’t deserve any of the honors that these people [in the Senate] want to give him.”

2/3

The evidence was based on several sources. One is the American interception of communications by the Soviet intelligence service during World War II. The code name for that interception was Venona.

One of the critical sources of information for the Soviets, Sudoplatov said, was J. Robert Oppenheimer. Sudoplatov had no reason to lie because he knew that Andropov could easily have verified this information.

Bbb Romerstein, who worked on Capitol Hill for 18 years, told me at the time that the resolution honoring Oppenheimer was passed by unanimous consent when it was likely that few Senators were even on the Senate floor. Out of the 100 Senators, he said, there probably aren’t five of them who know anything about Oppenheimer.

One factor may have been a controversial development that occurred during the Clinton administration, when a statement from FBI Director Louis Freeh was released, taking issue with the evidence that Oppenheimer had knowingly supplied classified information to the Soviets. However, this was before the Venona secrets were released, confirming Oppenheimer’s espionage activity.

Whatever the explanation and circumstances, it is a sign of the times thatthe Senate honored a figure who was a member of a group that betrayed our secrets to our enemies.

This problem has only gotten worse over the years, leading to the significance and relevance of Trevor Loudon’s books on Security Risk Senators.

There’s not much we can do about the Senate, except continue to expose the Security Risk Senators and ask thatpatriots like Republican Senator Ron Johnson pursue this line of inquiry. Johnson and Senator Chuck Grassleyhave been investigating Hunter Biden’s and James Biden’s financial connections to foreign governments and questionable foreign nationals.

They should begin investigating their Senate colleagues. Even though they will not chair any Senate committees, they can hold informal hearings into the activities of their colleagues that undermine national security.

For example,Biden owes his political career to a group called the “Council for a Livable World,” started by alleged Soviet agent Leo Szilard.

The Council was supported by money fromAl Gore Sr., who in turn was funded by Soviet agent Armand Hammer. This connection goes directly to Biden, not just his son, Hunter, the drug addict.

The Council for a Livable World is the key to understanding Biden and many Democratic Party Senators.

Biden, of course, is also linked through his son Hunter to the Chinese communists, a story suppressed by Big Tech as people were voting in the U.S. This kind of censorship, now documented by Elon Musk, should be enough to declare the election anything but honest and fair.

On the House side, my groupAmerica’s Survival, Inc.has been advocating an anti-communist House committee for years. However, some are skeptical. A troll sent me this message:

Republicans won’t fix anything wrong with the ‘Intelligence’ agencies. Your idea of an anti-communist committee won’t work with what we’ve got in DC as ‘representatives’.

3/3

Much will depend on what happens in the House leadership races.

The much-maligned House Committee on Un-American Activities, known as HCUA, uncovered dramatic communist infiltration of Hollywood and forced the studios to clean house. As noted, Then-Rep. Steve King (R-IA) expressed agreementwith my suggestion at that time that re-establishment of such a committee would be a good idea. “I think that is a good process and I would support it,” he said.

The oath of office for members of Congress requires that they support and defend the Constitution of the United States “against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” HCUA is a model for how such a problem can be identified and confronted.

Trevor Loudon’s proposal for a “public register of subversive organizations” is not new. The HCUA once published a “Guide to Subversive Organizations and Publications.” But he also proposes an amnesty for foreign agents, if they confess their crimes and expose their networks.

As researcher Trevor Loudon documents in his booksWhite House Reds and Security Risk Senators, there are no background checks on U.S. Senators– some of the most powerful lawmakers on the planet.

He says a new security agency to conduct such probes would have to be staffed by former intelligence officials “who left service at the beginning of the Obama era or before contamination really set in.”

The situation is dire: Democrats now have an absolute majority in the chamber, with 51 seats to the Republicans’ 49, and firm control over all committees.

I endorsed Trevor’s books, saying, “Exposing the unvetted, the compromised, and the blackmailed, Trevor Loudon applies the CARL Test to Congress and does the work the FBI can’t or won’t. He documents how communists help elect security risks whose Character, Associates, Reputation, and Loyalty to the United States are in doubt.”

The CARL Test was at one time used to conduct background checks on people for high-level positions. No such vetting was done in the Obama and Biden cases. They could never have passed. No such vetting is done in the case of members of Congress.

Indeed, candidates for federal office, in contrast to federal employment,do not undergo any background checks at all.

Read Trevor Loudon’s books Security Risk Senators and learn the terrible truth. Then demand that the incriminating information be examined by Congress. This scandal goes far beyond the Biden Family.

(I always wondered other Senators did not expose Biden, now I know why)
