City of College Park Council,

City Manager

7401 Baltimore Avenue

College Park, MD 20740

It has been a profound honor and privilege to serve the City of College Park since 2007 as a City Councilmember and your Mayor. However, effective immediately, I must resign my position. On February 28, 2023, a search warrant was executed on my residence as part of an ongoing police investigation. I have cooperated fully, and will continue to cooperate, with law enforcement. While this investigation does not involve any official city business of any kind, it is in the best interests of our community that I step aside and not serve as a distraction. I have great trust in the ability of Mayor Pro Tem Mitchell, the City Council, and our staff to carry forward what we have accomplished. Many of you have already reached out with well wishes and thoughts, and I am eternally grateful. I am stepping away to deal with my own mental health. I ask that you continue to keep me and my family in your prayers.

Sincerely,

Patrick L. Wojahn

“I actually met Mayor Pete Buttigieg shortly after I was elected mayor in 2015,” Wojahn said. “I went to the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Winter Meeting in D.C. in January and he was assigned to be my buddy.”

“Fired up. Ready to go!” Edith Childs understands the power of a single voice, and she used those words to light up a room during my campaign stop in Greenwood, SC back in 2007.

I recently caught up with Edith, who just retired after 24 years in public service. Take a look:

In the year 2023, prominent right-wing commentators still have a problem with same-sex parents

Right-wing commentators are cynically leveraging a horrific story of alleged child sexual abuse to drum up opposition to adoption by gay and lesbian couples.

The right’s hateful anti-LGBTQ vitriol — and the GOP’s cruel legislative efforts in response — have largely focused in recent years on trans people and drag queens. But old-fashioned gay-bashing hasn’t died out on the right, with influential figures continuing to target same-sex couples who want to participate in institutions typically praised by American conservatives, like marriage and parenthood.

On Wednesday night, Fox host Laura Ingraham used her prime-time show to detail the case against William and Zachary Zulock, who in August were arrested in Georgia and charged with sexually abusing their two adopted boys. It’s an appalling story, but also appallingly familiar — sexual abuse by household members is unnervingly common, particularly for children who pass through the foster care system.

Ingraham’s apparent pretext for focusing her viewers’ attention on this particular case is that the Zulocks are “LGBTQ activists,” the evidence for which is apparently that they did things like march in Atlanta’s annual Pride parade and post social media content in favor of LGBTQ rights. But her guest, Mia Cathell, who authored a multi-part series on the case for the right-wing website TownHall.com, gave the game away when she said that the problem the story exposes is that “a same-sex couple was able to receive services” from the adoption agency.

LGBTQ-Activist Dem Mayor, Who Was 'Mentored' by Buttigieg, Arrested for Vile Charge

The gay-activist Democrat mayor of College Park, Maryland, who has branded himself as something of a role model for LGBTQ youth, was arrested Thursday morning on dozens of counts of possessing and distributing child pornography, totaling 56 child sex offenses.

47-year-old Patrick Lewis Wojahn, a regular White House guest and the first openly gay man to take mayoral office in his city, is charged with 40 counts of possession of child sexual exploitative material and 16 felony counts of distribution of child porn.

Wojahn, who ran for mayor in 2015 following eight years of service on the city council "to help College Park realize its unfulfilled promise of becoming a top-tier college town," was busted after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) notified the Prince George's County Police Department on Feb. 17 that images and videos of child sexual abuse were uploaded in January to a social media account operating in its jurisdiction. PGPD investigators soon discovered that the account in question belonged to Wojahn, according to a press release issued Thursday by the police department. PGPD detectives served a search warrant Tuesday at Wojahn's home in College Park, where investigators recovered multiple cell phones, a storage device, a tablet, and a computer before the mayor was handcuffed Thursday by the police department's Internet Crimes Against Child Unit.

As journalist Andy Ngo reported, Wojahn used to have the Instagram username and Twitter handle, "Patrick4CP," his re-election tagline, Patrick for College Park. Child pornography is often abbreviated as "CP" by child predators searching for it online.

The mayor is now in the custody of the Department of Corrections and is due to appear in court for a bail-review hearing Friday afternoon and a preliminary hearing at the end of the month on March 31. The criminal investigation remains "open and active."
