I watched most of the trial, got sucked in after the first week. The Murdaugh's; were lawyers going back over 100 years, both his grandfather and father were AG's, uncles ect. were all lawyers, well connected and very rich family.
Turns out, this Alex was a complete sociopath. He got his Bar license in 1999, got his partnership with a prominent legal firm 2001 and immediately started embezzeling funds from cases that he settled. At first he was stealing from clients, later both clients and the firm itself. Between 2011 to when he finally got caught, it totaled up to 10 million.
Before the murders, June 7, 2021, the firm started catching up to his embezzlement and were confronting him, AND; in May of 2021, his murdered wife, Maggie, found bags of opioids hidden in a computer bag. Both Maggie and Paul were confronting him on what turned out to be a 20 year addiction NO ONE KNEW about…except for cousin Eddie, who is currently sitting in prison.
At the time the trial began,k Alex net worth was in the hole by some 400, 000. Good luck affording an appeal!
Anyway, after his conviction and sentencing for the murders, he will now face 90 charges for embezzlement, oh and he also has a civil case for a boat crash caused by his murdered son, Paul, which ended up killing a young girl.
