Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Teases a Run Against Joe Biden in 2024 Democrat Party Primary

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the son of former US Attorney General Robert Kennedy, is mulling a run for president in 2024 as the Democrat Party nominee.

Kennedy is a lifelong liberal who still believes in free speech, free assembly and civil rights as guaranteed by the US Constitution. He is ouspoken in his defense of individual rights.

During a recent speech at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, a reporter asked Kennedy if he was thinking about considering running for President.

Kennedy replied, “I am thinking about it.”

The son of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, continued, “I’ve passed the biggest hurdle which is that my wife has green-lighted it.”

If Kennedy decides to run it’s quite possible he could take Biden off the ballot as the Democratic nominee.

In the last three years, Kennedy has created quite a large following after he publicly advocated against Covid-19 vaccines and the Fauci protocol. Robert Kennedy Jr. published a best-selling book “The Real Anthony Fauci” that sold over a million copies in 2022.

Witnesses Scream after MASSIVE EXPLOSION at Indonesia’s Pertamina Fuel Storage Facility – At Least 15 Dead

A massive fire and explosion took place on Friday at Indonesia’s Pertamina Fuel Storage Facility.

Local citizens were filming the fire when the Pertamina facility exploded.

They can be heard screaming as the fuel storage facility exploded like a derailed toxic chemical railcars in East Palestine, Ohio.

This is the latest gas and oil facility explosion this year.

Massive fires broke out at three Mexican-owned facilities, including one in Texas, last week.

Indonesian officials called for an investigation and an audit of state energy company Pertamina’s (PERTM.UL) facilities after a fire at its storage facility killed 15.

The fire, which started at around 8 pm (0100 GMT) on Friday from a fuel pipe at Pertamina’s Plumpang fuel storage depot in capital Jakarta, quickly spread to nearby houses and sent residents in the densely populated area into panic.

Authorities initially put the death toll at 17 but revised it later to 15. Dozens were injured and more than a thousand people were displaced, police said on Saturday.

Ford Files For Patent That Can "Remotely Shut Down" Parts Of Your Car When Your Bill Isn't Paid

Remember when getting in your car and flying down the highway with the top down used to be the perfect escape from the mire and muck of everyday life, like bills and e-mail? Now, thanks to the implementation of technology in the auto industry, that once-freeing joyride is literally becoming bills and e-mail.

That's because a new patent from Ford now allows the manufacturer to "remotely shut down your radio or air conditioning, lock you out of your vehicle, or prompt it to ceaselessly beep if you miss car payments", according to a new report from Bloomberg. While the official company line is that Ford has "no plans" to use the technology, we're certain that'll be proven to be incorrect over time.

“We submit patents on new inventions as a normal course of business, but they aren’t necessarily an indication of new business or product plans,” Ford said.

And the patent coincidentally comes along at a time when many car owners are experiencing difficulty keeping up with rising rates, resulting in "delinquencies [that] have been steadily ticking back up from their pandemic lull".

John Van Alst, a senior attorney with the National Consumer Law Center, commented: “It really seems like you’re opening up a can of worms that, as a manufacturer, you don’t really need to be doing.”

“You’ve now created this device which is like the doomsday device in Dr. Strangelove,” he continued.

The technology is called a "repossession-linked technology" in the patent and can also disable cruise control and automated windows. “Disabling such components may cause an additional level of discomfort to a driver and occupants of the vehicle,” the patent reads.

Recall, back in September 2021, we wrote about how in-car cameras were already keeping a close eye on everything drivers were doing. Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute have now developed a smart-car camera system that can "figure out exactly what a driver is doing," according to a Gizmodo report from around the time.

We noted that the "appeal" of these points is what prompted the Fraunhofer Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation to come up with a camera that uses AI powered image recognition to construct a digital sketch of the driver - which then, in turn, provides enough details for the system to guess what the driver is doing. The system can determine things like when a driver is sipping a cup of coffee or looking at their phone.

The vehicle can then make a determination if the driver is paying attention, prompting a semi-autonomous system to determine how distracted they could be.

Pretty soon the car will be taking you out for a joyride when it's stressed…

How social networks became a 'subsidiary' of the FBI and CIA

The veil has been lifted on a secret alliance between Silicon Valley, intelligence agencies and the political establishment

The US Congress last tried to grapple with what the country’s ballooning security services were up to nearly half a century ago.

In 1975, the Church Committee managed to take a fleeting, if far from complete, snapshot of the netherworld in which agencies such as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and National Security Agency (NSA) operate.

In the aftermath of the Watergate scandal, the congressional committee and other related investigations found that the country’s intelligence services had sweeping surveillance powers and were involved in a raft of illegal or unconstitutional acts.

They were covertly subverting and assassinating foreign leaders. They had coopted hundreds of journalists and many media outlets around the world to promote false narratives. They spied on and infiltrated political and civil rights groups. And they manipulated the public discourse to protect and expand their powers.

Senator Frank Church himself warned that the might of the intelligence community could at any moment “be turned around on the American people, and no American would have any privacy left, such is the capability to monitor everything … There would be no place to hide.”

Since then, the technological possibilities to invade privacy have dramatically increased, and the reach of the intelligence agencies, especially after 9/11, has moved on in ways Church could never have foreseen.

This is why establishing a new Church Committee is long overdue. And finally, in the most controversial of circumstances and for the most partisan of reasons, some sort of revival may finally be about to happen.

A protracted battle last month within the Republican Party to elect Kevin McCarthy as the new speaker of the House of Representatives forced him to cave to the demands of his party’s right wing. Not least, he agreed to set up a committee on what is being called the "weaponisation" of the federal government.

It held its first meeting last week. The panel said its task would be to look at "the politicization of the FBI and DOJ and attacks on American civil liberties".

Earlier, in a speech to the House on the new committee, Republican Representative Dan Bishop said it was time to cut out the “rot” in the federal government: “We’re putting the deep state on notice. We’re coming for you.”

Democrats are already decrying the committee as a tool that will be wielded in the interests of Donald Trump and his supporters, saying the Republican right wants to discredit the security services and suggest malfeasance in the treatment of the former president.

Ohio Governor Responds to Farmers’ Concerns About Soil After Toxic Train Derailment

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine responded Friday to ongoing concerns expressed by local farmers in and around East Palestine about their soil, crops, and livestock, following the train derailment on Feb. 3 and subsequent spill of toxic chemicals into the air, ground, and water.

DeWine, after being presented with farmers’ concerns, told CBS affiliate WHIO: “There’s going to be soil testing. Anybody want soil testing, that’s going to be provided. So it’s very important, the testing of the water continues, the testing of air continues.”

He added if farmers have observed anything different, such as changes in the growth of their livestock, the state government’s agricultural department “can become involved” and his administration “can get the state veterinary involved in that.”

“The soil at the farm: Can we plant? Can we not plant? Will anybody buy it, if we do plant?” asked Eloise Harmon, of East Palestine, who owns part of a farm, the outlet reported.

When she and others expressed concerns about planting in the spring to DeWine, he said the state government can bring in agricultural experts to “hear that concern.”

“It’s an understandable concern. I’m not the expert. We’re going to bring in the experts. We’ll put them together with the farmers,” he told the WHIO, adding that the experts would come from various universities in the state.

Concerns of ‘Highly Toxic’ Dioxins

Public concern over the contamination of soil, water, and air has persisted since a train derailed on Feb. 3 around 9 p.m. in East Palestine, Ohio. No fatalities were reported after the crash. The Norfolk Southern train was traveling from Madison, Illinois, to Conway, Pennsylvania.

According to a preliminary report (pdf) issued on Feb. 23 by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the train had 38 of its 151 cars derailed. Of the derailed cars, 11 contained hazardous materials that subsequently sparked a fire that damaged 12 non-derailed cars. Responders mitigated that fire on Feb. 5.

The train was carrying 115,580 gallons of vinyl chloride in five of the 11 cars. The substance is a known carcinogen and is highly flammable. It is used to make PVC pipes and other products. The National Cancer Institute notes that it has been linked to cancers of the brain, lungs, blood, lymphatic system, and liver.

Major Banks Bend The Knee To Climate Activists, Accelerate Plans To Cut Coal Investments

Both U.S.-based bank Citi and German Deutsche Bank announced plans to reduce investments in coal this week, the latest step in the movement amongst major banks to reduce their funding of fossil fuels and other industries that produce greenhouse gasses.

Citi announced plans to reduce emissions from its coal mining investments by 90% by 2030, while Deutsche announced that it would no longer finance companies that generate more than 30% of their revenue from coal, down from 50%, if they have no “credible plans” to reduce their dependence by 2025. Both banks are founding members of the United Nations’ Net Zero Banking Alliance, which requires its 126 members to set goals and disclose financial data related to their efforts to reduce the emissions of their lending portfolio to net zero by 2050.

Banks have been increasingly investing in green energy, investing $0.81 in the sector for every $1 spent on fossil fuels in 2021, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing a report from BloombergNEF. The same report found that Deutsche invested $2.2 in green energy for every $1 in traditional fossil fuels.

“Addressing the world’s energy and climate needs will be a balancing act,” said Jane Fraser, CEO of Citigroup, in a press release. “On the one hand, investing in energy security is essential – the global economy still runs primarily on oil and natural gas and many developing nations have neither the resources nor the infrastructure to make a quick shift to renewables. At the same time, investment in clean energy technologies is critical to addressing climate change, and support for companies working to dramatically reduce their carbon footprints must continue wherever they may be on their respective journeys.”

Deutsche bank in particular drew some criticism from activist groups that considered the move to be insufficient, since it did not include similar cutbacks in oil and gas, Reuters reported. Activist groups had previously hailed the decision from major British bank HSBC in December to not fund new oil and gas investments and move to overhaul existing businesses it finances, joining fellow British bank Lloyds.

U.S. banks, such as JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley — all members of the Net Zero Banking Alliance — have faced pressure from activist investors to be more aggressive with their plans to cut fossil fuels from their investment portfolios, Bloomberg reported in January. New York City Comptroller Brad Lander in January filed a series of such shareholder resolutions in January, and threatened to pull pension funds from investment managers who failed to support the resolutions.

Treasury to Testify Friday for Withholding Biden Family ‘Suspicious’ Wire Transfers

The Treasury Department will testify before the House Oversight Committee on Friday about its withholding of 150 suspicious activity reports (SARs) generated by the Biden family and their associates by unusual foreign or high-dollar transactions.

The Treasury’s Jonathan C. Davidson, assistant secretary for legislative affairs, will testify before the committee about why the agency has refused to provide the SARs, which often contain evidence of potential criminal activities, such as money laundering and fraud.

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) is investigating James and Hunter Biden, along with Eric Schwerin, for nine violations, including, wire fraud and money laundering. During its investigations, the Treasury has tried to stonewall Comer’s request for the SARs because the reports are a key trove of information that will provide details about the family’s foreign business transactions, along with knowledge of whether President Joe Biden remains compromised by foreign governments through his family’s business.

“We are concerned the Treasury Department is acting in bad faith to produce these documents to the Oversight Committee when we know that it has already produced them to another congressional office,” Comer wrote. “At next week’s hearing, a Treasury Department official can explain to Congress and the American people why the department is hiding critical information.”

China’s TikTok Generates More Revenue Via In-App Purchases than Major Social Media Platforms Combined

China-owned TikTok is trouncing its competitors in in-app purchases (IAPs), generating more revenue in the fourth quarter of 2022 than its top four competitors combined.

TikTok, which is currently facing down a potential ban by the U.S. Congress, has long had an in-app purchase feature. Some of its competitors, including Facebook and Twitter, have only recently introduced such features, and have a great deal of catching up to do if they want to approach TikTok’s revenues.

Besides Facebook, other American-based entities including Snapchat and Twitter also require a subscription from users. Per the data from Apptopia, Instagram generated about $1 million while Twitter raked in about $900,000. Snapchat has been offering IAP for a longer period of time and it currently rakes in an average of $125,000 per day.

While these figures serve as the start of something that may eventually prove to be sustainable for these firms, they are all lagging behind TikTok which generated more than $350 million from IAPs in the previous fourth quarter.

“TikTok has had IAPs [in-app purchases] since its very beginning and its app revenue last year was a whopping $1.5 billion,” Blacker says. “Its IAPs are similar to Facebook’s in that users pay for coins which can be used to tip and pay for things from their favorite creators.”

TikTok is under considerable public pressure due to its links to China, having already been banned on government devices in the U.S., Canada, Taiwan, and various other countries due to security concerns. Congress is currently considering a bill that would effectively ban the app for average American consumers, although it is being opposed by the ACLU, which argues that such a ban would violate the First Amendment.

Italian Intelligence Says ‘Rescue’ Ship NGOs Help Smugglers, Lead to More Migrant Deaths

An Italian intelligence report released this week says NGO migrant “taxi” ships help people-smugglers and cause more deaths at sea.

The Italian Department of Security Intelligence (DIS) report released this week to the Italian parliament says the presence of migrant “taxis” claiming to be conducting rescue operations helped people smugglers and led to more migrants setting sail in hopes of coming across them.

“NGOs represent a logistical advantage for criminal organizations that manage the smuggling of migrants and expose disembarked people to a more concrete risk of shipwreck,” the report stated, newspaper Il Giornale reports.

The DIS added that some smugglers even use NGO activity as a selling point to prospective migrants, claiming that NGO vessels’ presence offers greater security for illegals making the often dangerous journey across the Mediterranean Sea.

Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council Alfredo Mantovano explained the report in parliament, saying: “If I place ships at the limit of territorial waters, the probability increases that small boats will leave the mainland with the certainty of finding shelter ships.”

Similar allegations have been made in the past by the European Union border agency Frontex, which has called NGOs a “pull factor” for illegal immigration.

Prior reports have also alleged that some NGOs have directly worked with people-smugglers in the Mediterranean Sea.

The DIS report also detailed the smuggling networks engaged in using sailing boats, often departing from Turkey. This has been seen frequently since at least 2021, when reports claimed that stolen yachts were being used to ferry migrants to Italy.

According to the DIS, the networks mostly consist of Pakistanis and Kurds, and have logistical support in the countries of origin of the migrants, along with transit countries. They also extensively use social networks to advertise.

The report comes just days after people-smugglers led at least 67 people to their deaths when a boat that set sail from Turkey sank off the coast near Steccato di Cutro in south-eastern Italy, with at least 16 children among the victims.

The Crotone prosecutor’s office identified at least three men as possible smugglers, two Pakistanis and a Turkish national, who charged those on board the fatal voyage as much as €8,000 (£7,033/$8,461) each.

NGO activity, meanwhile, brought over 10,000 migrants to Italy last year alone.

The government of national conservative Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has enacted a security decree in an attempt to reel in their activities.

REPORT: 880 Migrants Found Dead by Border Patrol in FY22 Shatters Prior Records

A Border Patrol report obtained by the Washington Examiner reveals that agents discovered the bodies or remains of 880 migrants in Fiscal Year 2022. The total makes FY22 the deadliest year on record for migrant deaths at the southwest border.

The number of deaths reflected in the data obtained by the Washington Examiner in a FOIA request includes only those recoveries reported by the Border Patrol. The number is likely to be significantly lower than the actual count of deceased migrants as it does not include migrant remains recovered by Mexican authorities or those recovered by authorities away from the border. The news outlet received the data this week after submitting the FOIA request in July 2022.

The Examiner revealed the majority of migrant deaths were recorded in the South Central Region of Texas. Deceased migrant recoveries in the Del Rio Sector of the Border Patrol were highest at 255, followed by the Rio Grande Valley Sector at 210 according to the Examiner.

Reports obtained by Breitbart Texas from the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office located in the Rio Grande Valley Sector reveal the recovery of the bodies or remains of 91 migrants in 2022.

Brooks County Sherriff Benny Martines told Breitbart the number of deaths in his county was probably higher than that, but Border Patrol resources shifted from his county to the Valley likely reduced the number of discoveries.

“Unfortunately, [these deaths are a] consequence of the government’s policies that created the massive influx of people crossing the border illegally into Texas,” Sheriff Martinez told Breitbart. “We continue to see a record number of body recoveries in our county.”

Brooks County is located on a major human smuggling corridor approximately 80 miles north of the Texas-Mexico border. Migrants are dropped off on ranches in the area to circumvent the Falfurrias Border Patrol checkpoint on U.S. Highway 281.

Bondage-Themed Drag Queen Show for Babies Forced to Cancel Shows After Public Backlash

Organisers of the controversial British-based “CABA-BABA-RAVE” bondage-themed drag queen show for one and two-year-old babies and their mothers have cancelled an upcoming show after intense public backlash.

Footage posted by conservative presenter Dominique Samuels earlier this week showed scenes from a drag show in London in which male performers in thongs and leather bondage gear performed acrobatics in front of parents and small babies.

The CABA-BABA-RAVE group described the show as “a little slice of afternoon delight that provides show-stopping cabaret interspersed with captivating baby sensory moments… ending in a RAVE.”

The lewd children’s act was started by two “performers turned mums who were constantly looking to be entertained whilst holding a baby in one hand and a pint in the other.”

“We wanted to create the type of event we ourselves as Mums would want to go to. There’s only so many times you can listen to the f**king Wheels on the Bus. We wanted to give parents the experience of a ‘big London night out’… cabaret, drinks and dancing… but one you can bring your baby to and still be home for bedtime,” they said on their website, which has since been taken down.

Thousands exposed to cancer-causing chemical in Louisiana, feds say. What’s chloroprene?

Thousands of people living near a company’s chemical plant that regularly releases a cancer-causing chemical in the air face danger in southeastern Louisiana, federal officials say.

Exposure to the chemical, chloroprene, is hazardous and linked to developing lung and liver cancer.

For those in the communities surrounding Denka Performance Elastomers’ facility in St. John the Baptist Parish, their cancer risk rises each day they breathe in the high levels of chloroprene emissions, according to the U.S. Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Teens under 16, children and babies are more at risk than adults, according to a lawsuit filed Feb. 28 by the Justice Department on behalf of the EPA. The area around the chemical plant is home to numerous residences and schools and about 20% of the population living within 2.5 miles of Denka is under the age of 18, according to officials.

The lawsuit filed against Denka aims to force the Japanese company to significantly reduce its chloroprene emissions at the LaPlace facility.

Currently, infants who breathe in the highest measured chloroprene levels from the facility “will exceed an estimated lifetime of acceptable excess cancer risk within approximately their first two years of life” if emission rates continue as is, a complaint says.

In October, the Environmental Protection Agency published a letter about its investigation into how the facility’s air pollution has disproportionately affected the majority Black residents who live in the region.

Denka “has not moved far enough or fast enough to reduce emissions or ensure the safety of the surrounding community,” EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan said in a news release. “This action is not the first step we have taken to reduce risks to the people living in Saint John the Baptist Parish, and it will not be the last.”

McClatchy News left a message for Denka seeking comment and didn’t receive a response.

For Denka to comply with any court orders, it may depend on DuPont Specialty Products, a company which owns the land where the Denka facility is located, according to the complaint. DuPont is also named as a defendant.

DuPont spokesman Daniel Turner told McClatchy News the company is reviewing the complaint and declined to comment on the pending litigation.

Whitmer's $79B budget proposal chock full of protections for equity, inclusion and 'reproductive freedom'

Whitmer's budget, should it pass, would be the highest ever for the state of Michigan

Michigan Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's $79 billion budget proposal, a record high for the state should it pass, comes with an onslaught of support for progressive causes and programs.

In 17 different proposed department budgets, Whitmer directs that "No money appropriated . . . shall be used to restrict or interfere with actions related to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI); to restrict or impede marginalized community’s access to government resources, programs or facilities; or to diminish, interfere with, or restrict an individual’s ability to exercise the right to reproductive freedom."

First reported by The Midwesterner, the language, which is also featured in Whitmer's Education omnibus, is included in a large swath of department budgets, from police and prison funding to educational, health and transportation appropriations.

Proposed by Whitmer in February, the budget for fiscal year 2024 has yet to be picked up by the Democrat-controlled state legislature. The $79 billion proposal would be the state's highest ever should it pass and comes as the state’s surplus is projected to exceed $9 billion.

Whitmer's protection in the budget for "reproductive freedom" comes after she used her line-item veto power last summer to eliminate millions in funding from Republicans that was included in a general government budget bill to promote alternatives to abortion.

At the time, Whitmer's office also announced the governor's plan to veto $1.5 million in funding that Republicans had included for pregnancy resource centers and $700,000 for Real Alternatives, a non-profit based in Pennsylvania.

Whitmer's push for a more progressive Michigan comes as she requires healthcare workers in the state to participate in "implicit bias" training sessions, which encourages health care workers to admit they that are biased, and teaches them that Black people, overweight women and people with non-Western names are among those who face obstacles to success in America.

Arizona School Board Cuts Ties With Christian University After ‘Witchy AF’ Board Member Says Its Biblical Values Make Her Feel Unsafe

An Arizona Elementary School District cut ties with a Christian University after a “witchy AF,” “queer AF,” and allegedly “disabled” school board member wearing cat ears said the university’s “biblically-informed” values made her feel unsafe.

For the past five years, the Washington Elementary School District, which serves pre-k through eighth grade students in Phoenix and Glendale, had a contract with Arizona Christian University, which allowed their student teachers to be placed in its schools for field experience, Fox News reported. The contract provided valuable opportunities for recruitment as the nation grappled with the ongoing teacher shortage.

Amid nationwide staff shortages however, the board on February 23 unanimously agreed on a motion to end its partnership with the Christian university.

A disturbing video of the meeting has since emerged online featuring school board member Tamillia Valenzuela sporting cat ears and blasting the university over its Christian beliefs.

Valenzuela is serving her first term on the Governing Board after being elected in November 2022.

In various online profiles, Valenzuela has described herself as a “bilingual, disabled, neurodivergent Queer Black Latina” who loves a good hot wing (but only with the right ranch) and things that sparkle,” and as “Afro Latina AF, Queer AF, Witchy AF.”

An estimated 300,000 Israelis protest against judicial reform

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir instructed the police to stop protestors from blocking the highway and disrupting traffic.

Thousands of people across Israel began to protest against the judicial reform on Saturday evening for the ninth Saturday in a row.

A couple of hours earlier, Israel Police officers blocked off the Ayalon highway in preparation for the protests in as thousands decry the judicial reform.

The first location where protestors gathered was the Goma Junction near Kiryat Shmona where more than 1,500 gathered in the late afternoon including a group of women dressed as handmaids from Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale.

In Rehovot, a giant copy of the Declaration of Independence was hung from a building, and protestors were able to sign it at the bottom as a message that in their eyes, the reform is not in keeping with the principles of the declaration.

In other locations such as Tel Aviv, Rishon Lezion, Herzliya and Haifa, people gathered en masse with their Israeli flags and signs.

In Tel Aviv, a man stood across the street from the protestors with a megaphone and called for them to go to Huwara where at terror attack last week was followed by settler riots in the town that destroyed a lot of property and killed one person.

In Modiin, hundreds of protestors gathered outside the home of Justice Minister Yariv Levin.

"We believe in this country," said opposition leader Yair Lapid in Herzliya. "We believe that we have no existence if Israel is not a strong liberal democracy. We believe in the common good even if the government tries to divide us. We believe that our basic rights are not something that the government gave us as a gift and they are certainly not something that the government can take away from us."

"Don't pull the IDF that protects us all to this disagreement," said Gideon Sa'ar at a protest in Kiryat Ono. "We all need to protect the State of Israel together. Protect Israel, the security of Israel and Israel's democracy - these tools go hand in hand."

Sa'ar was speaking in reference to accusations that protestors were encouraging soldiers to defy their orders.

The Powerful LGBT Group Behind California's Most Radical Laws Is Setting Its Sights on Washington

Bolstered by corporate cash and Democratic allies, Equality California rose from obscurity to dominate Sacramento

If you’ve ever been shocked by a radically progressive California law, chances are you have one group to blame.

Founded 20 years ago as an LGBT advocacy group, Equality California has since grown to become a major player in California politics. Fueled by millions of dollars in donations from corporations like AT&T and Comcast to advocacy groups like Planned Parenthood, the progressive group has emerged as the savviest user of Sacramento’s legislative system. Together with its Democratic allies, Equality California helps set the legislative agenda and has pushed all manner of "woke" policies that help minors get sex changes in secret and let men into women’s prisons.

The group now wants to make its mark on the rest of the country. From its Washington, D.C., office, the group lobbies for federal legislation to legalize abortion, grant amnesty to illegal immigrants, and ban guns. Donors who give $50,000 or more to the group are given access to Equality California’s highest donor tier, "National Trailblazer." In a speech praising the group, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) called Equality California "the way of the future" and warned that "the days are numbered for the people who would stand in the way of liberty and justice for all across every community in our country."

Equality California was not always a progressive powerhouse. For most of its existence, the group was a minor player in Sacramento, and failed to even block a 2008 ballot measure banning gay marriage in the state. By 2014, as the courts began meeting LGBT advocacy groups’ demands to mainstream gay marriage, some in California’s gay community began to wonder if Equality California was even necessary.

Enter Rick Zbur.

Now a Democratic state representative, Zbur was then a powerful Los Angeles attorney and progressive advocate. He quickly set about changing Equality California’s strategy after taking the helm. Zbur expanded the group’s mandate to include other progressive causes, like immigration expansion and abortion, while pushing to expand LGBT issues beyond civil rights protections. After the 2016 election, Zbur again reimagined Equality California as an anti-Trump "resistance" stalwart, leading a high-profile federal court fight against the administration’s ban on transgender soldiers.

In Zbur’s first year as executive director in 2014, Equality California had just $2 million in revenue. By 2017, it had tripled to $6 million.

Left-Wing Groups Claim Pro-Life Laws Violate International Human Rights Law in Letter to U.N.

Nearly 200 left-leaning human rights organizations sent a letter to the United Nations (U.N.) on Thursday, accusing the United States of being “in violation under international human rights law” because some states have passed laws protecting unborn babies from abortion following the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision.

“By overturning the established constitutional protection for access to abortion, and through the passage of the state laws discussed above, the US is in violation of its obligations under international human rights law, codified in a number of human rights treaties to which it is a party or a signatory,” the 53-page letter reads in part.

The letter is an “urgent appeal” for the U.N. to “intervene to ensure the United Nations protects reproductive rights,” the Washington Post reported of the letter, which came from groups including, but not limited to, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and Global Justice Center.

The letter claims that “people residing in the U.S. who can become pregnant are facing a human rights crisis” and that “intensifying harms” are occurring as a result of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. The letter makes no mention of the estimated 63 million-plus unborn babies who have been killed in abortions since 1973.

The signatories called on U.N. mandate holders “to take up their calls to action” including “communicating with the US regarding the human rights violations, requesting a visit to the US, convening a virtual stakeholder meeting with US civil society, calls for the US to comply with its obligations under international law, and calls for private companies to take a number of actions to protect reproductive rights.”

“We sent this letter to draw the world’s attention to the suffering that US abortion law is inflicting on women, girls and others who can become pregnant,” Christine Ryan, legal director of the Global Justice Center told the Post in an emailed statement.

“There is a staggering level of cognitive dissonance required for the United States to claim a role as a global champion of human rights when millions of its own citizens are living under an extremist anti-abortion [policies],” she claimed.

The letter also argued the minorities and people who earn low incomes are at more of a disadvantage because many living in states with pro-life laws have a limited ability or are unable to abort their unborn babies.

“Dobbs is devastating for all people who can become pregnant, but it has had and will have an outsize impact on certain marginalized groups who already face documented discrimination within and outside the health care system,” the letter claims. “These groups often have poorer health outcomes compared to other populations, and Dobbs will worsen these.”

U.N. human rights bodies have previously criticized the Supreme Court’s ruling, calling it a “major setback” and a “huge blow to women’s human rights and gender equality,” according to the report.
