Norfolk Southern cargo train derailed near Springfield, no injuries reported
About 20 cars of a Norfolk Southern cargo train derailed near Springfield Saturday evening but there have been no reported injuries and no hazardous materials were aboard the train, a company spokesperson told The Dispatch.
The nonpassenger train derailed around 5 p.m. by State Route 41, close to the Clark County Fairgrounds.

A spokesperson for Norfolk Southern said about 20 cars of the 212-car train derailed while traveling south.
"No hazardous materials are involved and there have been no reported injuries. Our teams are en route to the site to begin cleanup operations," the spokesperson said.
The Clark County Emergency Management Agency in a post on Facebook asked residents within 1,000 feet of the derailment to shelter in place out of an abundance of caution.
In an update at 7:55 p.m., the agency said more than 1,500 residents are without power due to downed power lines.
Multiple Clark County and Ohio agencies are on-site according to the post, including the Ohio Emergency Management Agency, the Ohio Department of Public Safety, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the Clark County Emergency Management Agency, Springfield Township Fire Department, Springfield Fire and Rescue Division, Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Springfield Police Division.
