The best way to discuss politics with anyone, I've found, is to remove Trump from the conversation. Deal in issues only, and banter about solutions. You can persuade anyone to the results of the actions of the current administration, but it takes patience. Once issue at a time. Hard to argue with:

Enforcing border laws to reduce crime
