there is nothing in the constitution that says anything about DC not being a state…in fact it could become a state and still function…. the Constitution merely states that the federal enclave cannot exceed 10 square miles; it does not prohibit carving out a limited area for government buildings that remains under federal control, while making the rest of the district into a state.

 

So DC (68 square miles) could become a state and leave the remaining 10 square miles required by the constitution and I guess call it New D.C. or something….

 

It would be of a city becoming a state while creating a city

true it should but both states are dem controlled where it matters most…..they've been fighting for it for decades…seems now is the right time with the amount of control they have…..I'll be surprised if it doesn't happen before next election

DC, as is currently controlling the US, would remain

The rest of dc would be a state with it's own separate state constitution and capital separate from the current federal governing body

 

DC is bigger than just the capitol area….

It's not really hard to understand, but it is hard to accept
