The BC Conservatives tabled a motion last week to end electric vehicle (EV) subsidies, citing the slave labour mines that the cobalt for their batteries comes from. This caused quite a commotion at the province's legislature.
Newly minted BC Conservative John Rustad hoped to table his private member's motion to debate EV subsidies when his former party, the BC Liberals summarily blocked it from the debate.

The two biotech companies sued Moderna over infringement claims on six patents concerning the manufacture and sale of Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine.

The Jesuits of Canada have released a list of priests and brothers they say were credibly accused of sexually abusing minors over the past 70 years.
The Jesuits, a religious order of the Roman Catholic Church, released the list of 27 names Monday following an audit that began in 2020 that looked at documents going back to the 1950s.
Of the men named, all but three are dead.
The order says in a statement that the release of the names is part of the Jesuits’ effort to promote transparency, accountability, justice and healing for survivors of abuse.
In most cases, the abuse came to light after the alleged abuser had died, with some cases never reaching criminal or civil litigation.
In a statement, Rev. Erik Oland says despite the exhaustive review, other names may be added to the list in the future.

The interbank messaging company SWIFT has announced plans to rollout a standardized global interlinking Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) system.
The project for CBDC cross-border payments involved 18 big banks from around the globe, including the Banque de France, Royal Bank of Canada, Société Générale, HSBC, Deutsche Bundesbank, NatWest, UBS, France’s BNP Paribas, Italy’s Intesa Sanpaolo, the UL’s Standard Chartered (STAN), and the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
“While interest in CBDCs is growing, so is the risk of fragmentation as a widening range of technologies and standards is being experimented with,” Lewis Sun, global head of domestic and emerging payments at HSBC, declared in a statement.

The Bank of England announced that it will cut funding for climate change initiatives first championed by Canadian economist and central banker Mark Carney.
While serving as the Bank’s governor from 2013 to 2020, Carney led several sustainability efforts including climate change insurance risks, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) scores and more.
According to Bloomberg, inflation and current fiscal challenges means that those projects will no longer get the same priority as the Bank of England dedicates more resources to traditional economic concerns.
