The process would require the filing of a $500 application by organizers of a petition. To successfully recall a politician, 40% of the voter population of a specific ward would be required.

"I am satisfied that this approach, developed with officials in the United States, is in the best interest of the branch’s creditors," he continued.

OSFI said an orderly, court-supervised process would allow operations of the Silicon Valley Bank unit to continue. The Canadian business is focused primarily lending to corporate clients and does not hold any commercial or individual deposits.

Dalhousie professor Sylvain Charlebois told True North milk farmers have long been dumping milk that exceeded their quotas, but the supply management fix is no longer appropriate while Canadians grapple with economic pressure.

“It’s been going on for years,” said Charlebois. “But today in 2023 with a heightened focus on climate change… and the fact that food prices are skyrocketing, the context is completely different. I don’t think that there is a social license for milk dumping anymore.”

Major General Dany Fortin has launched a suit against the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for $6 million after he was removed from heading the coronavirus vaccine rollout over sexual assault allegations.

Major General Fortin filed his lawsuit on Wednesday at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, alleging that the Trudeau government acted in a “reprehensible, extreme, flagrant and high-handed” manner in 2021.

Fortin was charged with sexual assault in August of 2021 as a result of allegations from 1988 when he was enrolled in the Canadian military college, but he was acquitted of the charges in December of last year, the National Post newspaper reports.
