The problem for them is this strategy only works if controlled like a fire.  While the fire is burning and stoked every so often, it provides them the heat they need to survive.  If the fire is stoked too much, it becomes a raging inferno that can't be stopped.  Lately the fire is rising, and the efforts to control it have become less and less effective.  One day they will discover to their horror that the fire they have lit cannot be extinguished and it will engulf them, one day soon."
