Dozens arrested in Georgia riots

Crowds take to the streets to protest against a bill on foreign agents that the opposition is comparing to a Russian law

Dozens of protesters were arrested in Georgia during Tuesday’s demonstrations in the capital, Tbilisi, against a draft law on foreign agents, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

The ministry said policedetained 66 people for “petty hooliganism and disobedience to the legal demands” of the authorities, and pledged to assess the legal consequences for those who helped a peaceful protest to spiral out of control.

It added that “the violent actions” of protesters left about 50 officers injured, with several hospitalised and in need of surgery. The ministry said that during the clashes, “civilians were also injured,” without providing further details.

The Interior Ministry claimed that its officers repeatedly called on protesters to stand down, but to no avail, so the police “were forced to consistently use proportional force and special means of coercion” to restore order.

However, Georgian opposition lawmaker Giorgi Vashadze called the police response “disproportionate.” Talking to journalists, he announced that another rally would take place in front of parliament in Tbilisi later on Wednesday, which he claimed would attract even more people than on Tuesday.

The clashes between the police and protesters erupted on Tuesday after the Georgian parliament voted in favor of a bill requiring any organization receiving more than 20% of its funding from abroad to be registered as a foreign agent.

The initiative outraged the Georgian opposition, which denounced the bill as Russian-style and claimed that its passing would mark a “dark day for democracy.” A comparable law was passed in Russia in 2012, which bears similarities to the American Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), passed in 1938.

Tbilisi’s proposed legislation has sparked strong reactions both at home and abroad. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has said that she wouldveto the bill if it were passed, while voicing support for the protesters. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell described the initiative as contrary to EU values, while the US said it might impose sanctions on the Georgian government over the proposed law and handling of the protests.

(Why would citizens riot over a bill over enacting FARA regs that disclose NGOs getting 20% of their money from abroad? They wouldn’t, most people could care less. Antifa Nazis transported to the country.=Soros and orgs are starting a color revolution in Georgia, the new president stole the election, they want to turn Georgia into Ukraine. Russian defense minister outlines importance of key Donbass city

Taking control of Artymovsk would allow offensive actions deep into the Ukrainian armed forces’ positions, Sergey Shoigu said

Russia continues its efforts to take control of Artyomovsk –known in Ukraine as Bakhmut– Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu announced on Tuesday, noting that the city is an important defense hub for Kiev’s forces in Donbass.

“Taking [Artyomovsk] under control will allow further offensive actions deep into the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” he explained.

Artyomovsk has seen some of the most brutal fighting amid Russia’s ongoing military campaign in Ukraine. As well as being a stronghold for Ukraine’s forces, the city is part of a 70-kilometer line of defensecreated by Kiev since it initiated the fighting in Donbass in 2014.

In a months-long campaign, Russian forces have systematically captured settlements around the city and have been surrounding Artyomovsk from the north, south, and east.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, meanwhile, has repeatedly insisted that he would not surrender the city, despite his Western backers and military advisers reportedly urging him to cut his losses and withdraw.

Shoigu also reported on Tuesday that Russian forces have liberated the settlements of Nikolaevka, Dvurechnoe, Krasnaya Gora, Gryanikovka and Paraskovievka, and stated that the “American strategy of ‘breaking Russia by force of arms’” had failed.

“Western countries are increasing the supply of weapons and military equipment to Ukraine, expanding training programs for Ukrainian army personnel,” said Shoigu. “At the same time, the support of the Kiev regime by NATO countries is not leading to the success of Ukrainian troops on the battlefield,” he added, noting thatKiev’s losses have significantly increased.

According to the minister, in February alone the casualties suffered by Ukraine's armed forces increased by more than 40% compared to January and amounted toover 11,000 servicemen.

“In this regard, theKiev regime’s indifference towards its people is surprising” Shoigu noted, adding that Kiev doesn’t seem to care how many people die for the benefit of its Western backers.

Russia’s priority, on the other hand, remains the preservation of the life and health of personnel and civilians, the minister stressed.

Unusual suspect among arrested ‘domestic terrorists’

An attorney with the FBI-advising SPLC has been accused of taking part in a ‘Treehouse Antifa’ riot

Authorities in the US state of Georgia have arrested 23 people and charged them with “domestic terrorism” after what they described as a “coordinated attack” on an Atlanta site where a police training center was under construction. Among those arrested is a lawyer for the Southern Poverty Law Center, a group advising the FBI on extremism.

Almost every rioter arrested was from out of state, including two foreign nationals – one French and one Canadian. One of the two Georgians involved was identified on Monday as Thomas Jurgens, a staff attorney with the SPLC, a self-styled civil rights organization.

“This wasn’t about a public training center; this was about anarchy,” Atlanta police told reporters on Sunday evening, describing how “violent agitators” used the cover of a music festival to attack the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center construction site.

The rioters changed into all-black clothes, breached the site, and attacked law enforcement officers with “large rocks, bricks, Molotov cocktails, and fireworks,” the police said, providing a video of the incident from the security cameras.

An activist collective going by the name ‘Defend the Atlanta Forest’ has been trying to block the construction of what they dubbed ‘Cop City’ for months. Critics have called them ‘Treehouse Antifa’ for their tactic of camping in the trees marked to be cleared.

“Cop City will never be a legitimate project,”the organization said in a statement on Sunday evening, as quoted by the local outlet WSB-TV. “We stand steadfast in our conviction to build a new world in which all people are safe from police terror.” (Ironic statement from terrorists!)

The discovery of an SPLC staffer among the ‘Antifa’ made waves, however. “Yikes,”Congressman Rich McCormick, a Georgia Republican, tweeted in response. His colleague from North Carolina, DanBishop, wondered if the SPLC would now list itself as a “hate group.”

The SPLC runs a ‘hate watch’ program and has been advising US authorities for years on who it considers ‘hate groups’ and domestic terrorists, while avoiding any mention of ‘Antifa’ and its various affiliates.

In a letter made public in mid-2018, the FBI described it as “a well-known, established and credible” organization that has provided briefings and advice since 2009. TheFBI confirmed it “continues to have a relationship with the SPLC,” even though it is supposed to reevaluate relations with outside groups “as necessary to ensure the appropriateness of any interaction.”

In June 2018, the SPLC made a public apology and paid over $3 million for defaming Muslim reformer Maajid Nawaz as an “anti-Muslim extremist” promoting “hate-based violence.”

(Interesting the state of Georgia and the EU nation Georgia are being attacked by Antifa and Nazis, at the same time!)

EXCLUSIVE: House Democrats Lied About Whistleblower In Leak To Corrupt Media

Margot ClevelandMarch 07, 2023

House Democrats liedwhen they said an investigation into an FBI whistleblower’s claim of retaliation had been dismissed, according to a letter obtained exclusively by The Federalist. On the contrary, an investigation into Special Agent Steve Friend’s claims is ongoing.

Last week, Democrats on theHouse Judiciary Committee leaked a “staff report” that contained numerous misrepresentationsto The New York Times, Monday’s letter to Inspector General Michael Horowitz said. The letter — signed by Tristan Leavitt, the president of Empower Oversight, the legal services firm representing Friend — began by condemning the “Forward” from committee ranking member Jerry Nadler and subcommittee ranking member Stacey Plaskett that declared by fiat and without evidence: “[T]he three individuals we have met [including Friend] are not, in fact, ‘whistleblowers.’”

Friend is indeed a whistleblower, the letter said. Not only that, but throughout the report that Democrats crafted and peddled to multiple media outlets, they falsely and repeatedly claimed the Office of Inspector General (OIG) had rejected Friend’s whistleblower retaliation claims, Leavitt stressed. “These mischaracterizations in the Democrat staff report were subsequently parroted by multiple media outlets,” including CNN and The Washington Post.

Contrary to the Democrats’ claims, echoed by friendly media outlets, Leavitt’s letter says that Friend’s whistleblower retaliation complaint, originally filed in September 2022, remains pending with the DOJ’s inspector general. While Friend had also alleged “systematic abuses of the Constitution, laws, and policy by the FBI,” in December of 2022, those allegations were referred to the FBI’s Inspection Division. But in follow-up inquiries, the OIG made clear, according to Empower Oversight, that the referral did not apply to Friend’s whistleblower retaliation claims.

In fact, since then, “Special Agent Friend and Empower Oversight continued to furnish additional information” to the OIG, and the inspector general continues to receive and evaluate information, the letter said, explaining the attorneys’ understanding of the investigation’s status. Friend’s attorneys said they understood the OIG intended “to interview Friend in order to obtain a more complete understanding of his allegations and fully assess both his underlying disclosures as well as his retaliation claims.”

Yet some media, without seeking comment from the OIG, “uncritically repeated” Democrats’ false narrative that the inspector general had rejected Friend’s claims. Conversely, when other outlets sought comment and clarification on the status of Friend’s case, Horowitz remained silent.

“This suggests a disturbing situation in which your office’s silence is allowing its reputation for neutrality and objectivity to be hijacked by partisans and their media allies to leave a false impression with the public — all in the service of undermining a whistleblower for political purposes,” Leavitt wrote.

Given the inspector general’s silence, Empower Oversight requested an update on the status of his office’s investigation into Friend’s whistleblower retaliation complaint — something his attorneys should not have to request. But given the Democrats’ lies, apparently it’s necessary to correct the record.

Monday’s letter also chastised House Democrats for leaking excerpts of Friend’s deposition transcripts, “without authorization of the Committee.” This was in violation of the committee’s representation to Friend that it would treat the transcripts “confidentially,” the letter added.

The leaks will likely continue, however; and sadly, so will the blatant lies.

Zelensky outlines what happens if Moscow wins key Donbass battle

Russian troops will have a foothold for a new offensive after they take Artyo

Russian forces will have an “open road” to more Kiev-held parts of Donbass if they win the fierce battle for the city of Artyomovsk, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said in an interview aired by CNN on Tuesday.

He denied claims that his top general had urged him to withdraw troops from the area.

The fight for Artyomovsk, known in Ukraine as Bakhmut, has been raging since August. The stronghold is a logistics hub and major foothold for Kiev’s soldiers in the Donetsk People’s Republic. Zelensky told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that the battle was “tactical for us.”

“We understand that after Bakhmut they could go further. They could go to Kramatorsk, they could go to Slavyansk, it would be [an] open road for the Russians after Bakhmut to other towns in Ukraine, in the Donetsk direction.”

Zelensky suggested that if the city falls to Russian forces, it will help “mobilize their society” and bolster domestic support for the Russian army.

On Monday, German newspaper Bild cited Ukrainian government sources as saying that General Valery Zaluzhny, Ukraine’s top commander, called for a withdrawal weeks ago. Zelensky’s office released a statement the same day maintaining that the top brass, including Zaluzhny, backed the decision to carry on the defense of the city.

Speaking to CNN, Zelensky denied that he was at odds with his commanders. “I never heard anything like that,” he said, claiming that such reports were “created in the Russian Federation.”

On Wednesday, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Russian private military company Wagner Group, said his fighters had gained full control of the eastern part of Artyomovsk, which is separated from the rest of the city by the Bakhmutka River. Prigozhin stated earlier that Russian soldiers had practically surrounded Artyomovsk, with only a single road available for Ukrainian forces to move in and out.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin claimed earlier this week that Artyomovsk’s importance was more symbolic than operational. However, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said that taking the city would allow for “further offensive actions” against the Ukrainian forces.
