#OTD in 1974, Lt. Hiroo Onoda of the Imperial Japanese Army finally surrendered to his former commanding officer. Onoda had held out in the Philippines and continued to fight for 29 years after WWII ended. He returned to Japan a hero but Filipinos wanted him arrested for murder.
