This is gaslighting bullshit, I'm saying racist things, but they're not racist because I say they aren't.
What happens is that as an empire evolves, the slaves of all shapes, sizes, and colors take over more and more complex duties, become educated as to how the system works, so Tribe pulls it down and moves on before the prisoners take over the prison. They were in the final stages of auctioning off the last bits of this country, and were just in the midst of migrating to Asia, but it looks like their plans went awry. It remains to be seen if that other project involving tearing the Middle East to shreds and then planting the idea in the heads of a bunch of pissed off Arabs that they have a right to Europe will come to fruition.
The issue has to be looked at in the context of the planet containing an empire with vassal countries that send their citizens to work within the borders of that empire's central government, and on behalf of their own countries, offering the myth of freedom to people's limited opportunities. Those who have controlled that empire are now ready to criticize the very arrangement they created to run the operation, so it will be dismantled and pose no threat, as they go elsewhere to set up shop.
I've read diaries and other writings of ordinary citizens, farmers, city folk, from a hundred years ago, and my impression is that people didn't used to be so ignorant.
Those scanners aren't just killing passengers, maybe the ones manning the machines are wising up.
