So consider that any time a collective of individuals creates an organization, that organization takes on a personality of it's own, in aggregate taken from whichever parts of the individuals interact directly with the organization. You can (and people do) conceptualize that they can make use of this phenomena to create "vehicles" with which they can enter and interact with the world at a higher order of magnitude than the world that is familiar to us as humans. The problem is, YOU are not actually controlling these higher order entities, totally regardless of how many other humans you can convince to agree that you are. In fact, your efforts to intrude upon these spaces is actually quite disruptive, and if you take it far enough you'll eventually meet something that really doesn't appreciate what you're doing to their world.
Consider the Internet as it has been implemented.
