LIVE: Committee on Homeland Security Examining Mayorkas' Border Crisis
Chairman Green: In just the two years of Secretary Mayorkas' reign at DHS, more people have come into this country than all of the eight years of Barack Obama's presidency, and all four years of the Trump presidency, combined.
Green: The Interin Final Rule, is a rule that Secretary Mayorkas is trying to change, and actually remove the judiciary branch from the decision making on asylum, even though congress passed the laws many, many years ago that said the judiciary is to be involved. Why would Secretary Mayorkas want to do away with the judiciary? It's because they want more people to come into the country.
Green: If you talk to the sector chiefs, they're gonna tell you that you can't return people back to their countries because the State Department has not renegotiated the return agreements. Why would the State Department not continue those agreements? It's because they want more people coming here in mass waves.
Green: A Secretary of DHS who seems to be okay with, one sector alone, twenty-five to thirty Chinese nationals being released into the country, with verified connections to the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese Army. That's happening.
There is, I think it is a Treasury Department 'rule' or something, that says a business does not have to accept cash.
Grassley: [Biden], and this budget's supporting documents continue to falsely claim that he is a deficit reducer. Nobody believes that. People know about the trillions spent in spending binge last congress, and costly administrative actions…the administration misleads the American people on real deficit reduction.
>what you say is unconstitutional and Void
That may be, but it's what businesses follow at this time.
Green: Do the drug cartels have control of sections of the perimeter of the United States?
Chief Ortiz [Border Patrol]: In certain areas, the cartels control an awful lot on the southern border, south of the United States.
Marshall: The greatest long-term threat the United States faces in our national debt. At thirty-one trillion dollars and growing, paying almost five hundred billion in interest last year alone, this national debt is unsustainable…In the first twenty months of office [Biden] spent more than any other president in US history….and now the White House gives this committee a new budget that will almost double the annual interest, and soon push our annual deficit towards two trillion dollars a year.
