Uganda‘s President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday described gay people as “deviants” and called for an investigation into homosexuality as lawmakers in the conservative East African nation prepare to vote on an anti-LGBT bill.
The bill, introduced earlier this month, proposes tough new penalties for same-sex relations in a country where homosexuality is already illegal, sparking criticism from human rights groups.
In a state of the nation address before lawmakers, Museveni, who has ruled Uganda since 1986, called gay people deviants as MPs urged him to comment on the new legislation.
“The homosexuals are deviations from normal. Why? ''Is it by nature or nurture. We need to answer these questions,” ''the 78-year-old said.

“We need a medical opinion on that. We shall discuss it thoroughly.”
Under the proposed law, anyone who engages in same-sex activity or who identifies as LGBTQ could face up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
The bill comes as conspiracy theories accusing shadowy international forces of promoting homosexuality gain traction on social media in Uganda.
“Western countries should stop wasting the time of humanity by trying to impose their practices on other people,” Museveni said in an address boycotted by all but one opposition legislator.
“Europeans and other groups marry cousins and near relatives. Here, marrying in one’s clan is taboo. Should we impose sanctions on them for marrying relatives? This is not our job,” he added.
The bill is due to be discussed next week, with a vote possible as early as Tuesday.
Uganda is notorious for intolerance of homosexuality — which is criminalised under colonial-era laws — and strict Christian views on sexuality in general.
But since independence from Britain in 1962 there has never been a conviction for consensual same-sex activity.
In 2014 Ugandan lawmakers passed a bill that called for life in prison for people caught having gay sex.
A court later struck down the law on a technicality, but it had already sparked international condemnation, some Western nations freezing or redirecting millions of dollars of government aid in response.
Opposition politicians boycotted Thursday’s speech to protest human rights violations, particularly the illegal detention and forced disappearance of their supporters.
Uganda has seen a series of crackdowns on people opposed to Museveni’s rule.
Journalists have been attacked, lawyers jailed, election monitors prosecuted, the internet shut down and opposition leaders muzzled.

On March 16, 2023, the Committee on Oversight and Accountability Majority Staff released a memorandum addressed to the Committee on Oversight and Accountability Members. The memo contained new evidence resulting from the Committee’s investigation into the Biden Family’s Influence Peddling and Business Schemes.
The subpoena issued on February 27, 2023, sought specific and critical information related to three Biden family business associates. The Committee’s intention is to identify deficiencies in the current legal framework regarding ethics laws and disclosure of financial interests related to the immediate family members of Vice Presidents and Presidents.
Bank records obtained by the Committee show that John Robinson Walker, a Biden family associate, used his company to transfer over $1.3 million to Biden family members and companies from 2015 to 2017.
The records also reveal that less than two months after Vice President Joe Biden left public office, a Chinese company wired $3 million to Robinson Walker, LLC, after which the company wired $1,065,000 to a company in Abu Dhabi associated with James Gilliar, a business partner of Hunter Biden.
Biden family members and companies then received incremental payments over a period of approximately three months. The recipients included Hallie Biden, companies associated with Hunter Biden and James Biden, and an unknown bank account identified as “Biden.”
Hallie Biden is the widow of Beau Biden, who was the son of U.S. President Joe Biden. Hallie was married to Beau Biden, who was the Attorney General of Delaware, until his death in 2015 due to brain cancer. After Beau’s death, Hallie began a romantic relationship with Joe Biden’s other son, Hunter Biden, which drew some media attention.

Bank records we’ve obtained reveal Rob Walker, a Biden family associate, used his company to transfer money from a Chinese energy company to Hunter Biden, James Biden, Hallie Biden, and an unknown “Biden.”
Specifically, on March 1, 2017 – less than two months after VP Joe Biden left public office – Robinson Walker, LLC received a $3 million wire from State Energy HK Limited, a Chinese company. Robinson Walker, LLC then wired $1,065,000 to a company associated with James Gilliar.
James Gilliar was a business partner of Hunter Biden & was involved in foreign transactions with the Biden family. Afterwards, Biden family members & their companies began receiving incremental payments over a period of approximately three months.
The total money transferred adds up to $1,065,692.

A fourth bank account identified as an unknown “Biden” also received money. We are continuing to investigate the identity of this account holder.From the bank records, it appears that the Biden family received approximately one-third of the money obtained from the China wire.
Ultimately, the American people deserve transparency into the extent of the Biden family’s influence peddling.
We intend to deliver legislation that will preclude family members from capitalizing on their relatives’ public office as we suspect the Bidens to have done.

Disney France was a corporate sponsor of pride event in Paris in which a transgender prostitute reportedly filmed sexually provocative videos in the restrooms of the City Hall.
The event, La Nuit des Fiertés, was put together by MAG Jeunes LGBT+, which caters to LGBTQ people ages 15 and 30.
According to the event's website, the cosmetic giant Sephora and Nyx, a cosmetics company owned by L’Oreal, were also sponsors of the event, which also featured drag shows.
The transgender prostitute reportedly goes by "Icy Diamond" and was an invited guest.
The prostitute allegedly tweeted a video in which the prostitute offered sexual favors in the bathroom of the City Hall.
The account was reportedly taken down for violating Twitter's terms of service, according to the conservative news outlet Breitbart.
