I was watching TV and they were talking about our space program and going back to the moon some day. I was thinking about how our space program started and who led it.
Some people still do not realize that Wernher von Braun, US former head of NASA, was a member of the Nazi Party and Allgemeine SS launching V2s against London before he was captured by allied forces. He was a SS-Sturmbannführer (MAJOR). As part of a military operation called Project Paperclip, he and an initial group of about 125 were sent to America where they were installed at Fort Bliss, Texas. There they worked on rockets for the U.S. Army, and assisted in V-2 launches at White Sands Proving Ground, New Mexico.
Interesting how an actual war criminal that launched V2 rockets killing innocent civilians in London became such a respected idol.
