Jean Pierre opened press conference by complaining about anti-gay law passed in Uganda.
Kirby [White House press conference]: We would have to take a look at whether or not there might be repercussions that we would have to take [against Uganda], perhaps in an economic way, should this law actually be passed and enacted.
[considering economic sanctions against Uganda over anti-gay law]
Kirby: Mr Putin hasn't really taken the foot off the gas since he invaded a year ago. He just continues to find new, brutal, violent ways to kill Ukrainians, and to try to destroy Ukrainian cities. Basically wipe Ukraine off the map as an independent, sovereign nation.
Reporter: Has there been any progress on a government investigation [into Nord Stream]?
Kirby: There are three national investigations being done into the Nord Stream II explosion by three of our allies. We are not going to get ahead of that. We still do believe it was an act of sabotage. The United States was not involved in any way, contrary to some press reporting out there.
[Biden administration can't investigate at the same time, and do nothing but insist they were not involved?]
Jean-Pierre: It's wrong. It's completely, utterly wrong…when it comes to the 'Don't Say Gay Bill' [Florida]..this is part of a disturbing and dangerous trend that we're seeing across the country, of legislations that are anti-LGBTQI+, anti-trans, anti the community in a way that we have not seen in some time.
Reporter: Does [Biden] agree that inflation is too high?
Jean-Pierre: [Biden] has always said that he's gonna do everything he can to make sure we work everyday to lower costs…that's why the Inflation Reduction Act is so important.
[refused to agree inflation is too high]
Reporter: When is [Biden] going to be visiting East Palestine, and why hasn't he yet?
Jean-Pierre: Plans are underway, discussions are underway. Just don't have anything locked in at this time.
