Three teens shot by North Carolina middle school; 2 bodies found hours after first victim rushed to ER

Story by Danielle Wallace • 1h ago

The shooting of a North Carolina 16-year-old Tuesday night prompted an overnight drone search for two other victims whose bodies were found behind a middle school by morning.

The investigation began shortly after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when officers responded to the 1200 block of Leon Street in Durham, where it was reported that a juvenile male had been shot.

The 16-year-old boy's parents transported him to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The teen said there may have been two additional victims who had been shot, prompting an extensive overnight search. The Durham Fire Department deployed a drone for several hours and the Durham County Sheriff’s Office sent out their cadaver dog, the Durham Police Department said in a statement to Fox News Digital on Wednesday morning.

The bodies of two additional 16-year-old boys were found shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Hudson Avenue and North Buchanan Boulevard, which is behind Brogden Middle School. Emergency Medical Services responded and pronounced both juvenile victims deceased on the scene. The teens have yet to be identified.

"Based on our preliminary investigation, the shooting does not appear to be random," police said. "This is an active investigation and no further details are available at this time."

The middle school was temporarily placed on secure status Wednesday morning as police were investigating. It's no longer on secure status.

The surviving 16-year-old male is in stable condition, police said.

Denver high school student who had to be patted down for weapons every day SHOOTS two male staff members with a handgun before fleeing campus

Teenager opened fire at 10am on Wednesday while being patted down by staff

He had to be searched for weapons every day because of 'prior behavior'

One of the victims is in stable condition and another is in critical condition

A Denver high school student is on the run after shooting two male staff members who were searching him for a weapon.

The shooting occurred at 10am at East High School in Denver, Colorado, on Wednesday. The teenager has not been named and it's unclear how badly the two school employees are injured.

It happened while he was being searched for a weapon, which he was subjected to every day because of 'prior behavior'.

'They were undergoing a search and during that search, a weapon was retrieved. Shots were fired,' police chief Ron Thomas said at a press briefing.

It's unclear why the boy was allowed to continue attending school if he was considered such a threat.

Mayor Hancock described the teen as being African American, with an 'afro', and wearing a hoodie that has the slogan Astronaut on it.

'Obviously he is armed and dangerous, and is willing to use the weapon as we learned this morning,' he said.

After firing multiple rounds from a handgun, he fled the scene and he now remains on the run.

'We are looking for the suspect.

'We will find that suspect, and we will hold that suspect accountable for his actions this morning in placing everyone in danger and certainly wounding the two staff members who were doing their job and trying to keep everyone safe at the time,' said Mayor Michael Hancock.

One of the staff members is in stable condition, but the other is in critical condition.

'One's in surgery right now, the other one is stable and able to talk and give statements in terms of what happened,' Hancock said.

The students were in third grade classes at the time.

The shooting comes just a month after a student from the school was shot on campus.

Luis Garcia died in the hospital as a result of his injuries. No one has been arrested in connection with his death.

In the aftermath of it, students from the school stormed city hall demanding a change to gun laws.
