I don't think they have the gold.
I speculate that the raid on the Rothschild's Black forest was for the purposes of securing a gold stockpile.
It was USMIL that executed the raid, amazingly it was a joint MI5(?) operation and the beans didn't get spilled. Likely they didn't know the objective until in the air.
